I believe the approval staff has to manually verify all of the changes before approving them. Only then will your number increase. It generally takes some time as there are only a couple of active staff working on approvals, and if you hover over any day on the contributors page you can see that there are typically over a thousand edits which can add up quickly if they don't stay on top of them. I have noticed that it usually takes at least 24 hours before I see any changes on my profile.
