  • She Was Pretty

    1. She Was Pretty

    Korean Drama - 2015, 16 episodes

    1.0

So many things I hated about this drama. The lead actress was just plain annoying, with her squeaky voice and over-the-top reactions. The male lead's only redeeming feature was his face. He treated everyone like dirt and magically became a better person just because she turned out to be his childhood crush. In my opinion, Siwon is the only reason this drama was so popular.

  • Love in the Moonlight

    2. Love in the Moonlight

    Korean Drama - 2016, 18 episodes

    3.0

Slow, boring, no character development, no true ending...

There may have been a few cute scenes, but the overall plot was just ridiculous. The palace suspects her and wants her arrested - let's do absolutely nothing about it and then get upset when she's caught. Plus, they never got together. As a prince, why didn't he just make her a concubine or something? No, let's just stare at each other from across the room and call it being in love.

  • Grand Prince

    3. Grand Prince

    Korean Drama - 2018, 20 episodes

    4.0

Way too long and clunky, with so many plot twists that they stopped being surprising and just made me roll my eyes. Yoon Shi Yoon is a great actor, but his character in this drama was so pathetically naive and emotional. He let everyone walk all over him and gave his obviously disturbed brother way too many chances. Their mother, the former queen, did nothing as her oldest son practically shouted from the rooftops that he was preparing a revolution. The whole thing was avoidable and the royal family was a bunch of cowards.

The FL was a spoiled brat who made selfish, downright stupid choices. She was willing to sacrifice her entire family for generations to come just because she had a gut feeling that her boyfriend was still alive somewhere.

  • Good Doctor

    4. Good Doctor

    Korean Drama - 2013, 20 episodes

    4.0

Throughout the show, people ridicule the ML because he hasn't "cured" his autism and that means he doesn't deserve their respect, which was beyond infuriating to watch. He was constantly being told to shut up, even though he'd proven himself several times and had been acknowledged by his boss as a genius.

I didn't like the FL. She was selfish, narrow-minded, and constantly angry. In the beginning, she was sympathetic about the ML's autism, but once she started liking him, it became an annoyance. No matter how many times you demand it, he can't just "grow up and be a man".

Joo Won did an absolutely amazing job, though. He was like a shining star surrounded by mud.

  • Fated to Love You

    5. Fated to Love You

    Taiwanese Drama - 2008, 24 episodes

    1.0

It's been years since I tried watching this trainwreck of a drama, but I still remember how enraged I felt. The FL is emotionally abused on a daily basis - screamed at, ridiculed, insulted, humiliated. She accepts the pregnancy and all the responsibilities that come with it, while the ML is an immature asshole. He has major mood swings. One minute he's kind, sympathetic, and excited to be a father and then something annoys him and he's screaming like a lunatic.

There's absolutely no reason whatsoever that anyone should think their relationship is healthy.

  • Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo

    6. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo

    Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes

    5.0

There's no actual plot to this drama because the ending is obvious from the very beginning: ML swoops in with his cuteness and wears the FL down until they start a secret relationship. I didn't dislike the FL, but she's definitely not my favorite and the ML was cute, but his character fizzled out after they started dating.

Wasn't bad, but wasn't great either.

  • The Scholar Who Walks the Night

    7. The Scholar Who Walks the Night

    Korean Drama - 2015, 20 episodes

    6.0

I'm conflicted about whether or not this is actually a "good" drama. I enjoyed it well enough, but the neverending angst, awkward dialogue, and cheesy vampire powers were on par with Twilight.

The romance is done pretty well, although the FL's acting is stiff and unconvincing. She spends the majority of the drama crying as she's forced to endure horrific torture and slavery just so the ML will be reminded of his own humanity. The ML is a complicated character; on one hand, he's annoyingly arrogant and believes he's better than humans and on the other, he's self-deprecating and desperately wishes to be human again. He does slowly improve, though.

Lastly, the ending is too open-ended and incomplete. I'm all for happy endings, but this one just doesn't feel right and leaves many questions.

  • Youth

    8. Youth

    Chinese Drama - 2018, 26 episodes

    1.5

This is the Chinese remake of the Korean drama "Age of Youth".

"Youth" follows the same storyline with very little deviation, but it lacked the tension and suspense of the original. I didn't feel any connection with the characters because their acting was so robotic. It was painfully obvious they were just repeating all the lines they'd memorized and weren't putting themselves in their character's shoes. Watching "Youth" is like watching the everyday lives of college students and I never once felt that rush of "omg, I NEED to watch the next episode". I probably ended up skipping through half the entire drama because it was just so boring.

Plus, the writers obviously don't understand PTSD. Suddenly cutting off the lights and sending the poor girl into a panic isn't going to magically cure her fears, no matter how tightly you hug her. Let her therapist do her job. Please.

The good points: the couples were pretty cute and I liked all the male characters. That's...about it.

  • Me too, Flower!

    9. Me too, Flower!

    Korean Drama - 2011, 15 episodes

    3.0

"Me Too, Flower"  is nothing but drama and misunderstandings. The first half was pretty entertaining, but once the 2ndFL swooped in like a vulture, it became a rollercoaster of guilt trips and unhealthy obsessions. The characters were all overdramatic and selfish, easily swept away by their feelings, and ignored any and all logic.

  • Under the Power

    10. Under the Power

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 55 episodes

    5.0

The first quarter of this drama was absolutely fantastic. I was fully prepared to give it 10/10 stars after just a few episodes. The criminal cases were exciting, the characters were well-written and complex, the FL wasn't a damsel in distress, and the relationship between the leads was promising. I was totally absorbed in the story.

Gradually, the side characters began to overshadow everything else. They had twice as much airtime as the main couple, bogging down the drama until I was just fast-forwarding through the episodes. Multiple love triangles, family drama, birth secrets, fake deaths, and a rushed, boring ending...overall, it's definitely not good, but it's not the worst I've ever watched.

  • Fight for My Way

    11. Fight for My Way

    Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes

    5.0

"Fight For My Way" is a silly rom-com you watch when you're in the mood for light-hearted fluff without a serious plot. The characters have goofy, immature personalities that are cute at first, but all the crying and tantrums become annoying after a few episodes. The romance is just a repeat of a single conversation: I like you so much! But I like you so so much! Well, I like you so so SO much!

Overall, it was...okay. Nothing special. I skimmed through the second half and I won't be re-watching it anytime soon.

  • Cuo Dian Yuan Yang

    12. Cuo Dian Yuan Yang

    Chinese Drama - 2012, 25 episodes

    4.0

I really enjoyed the first half of this drama. The story itself wasn't anything unique or exciting, but the characters were complex and had flaws that made them feel human, not just actors on a screen. I loved all the cute bickering and teasing. The lead couple also had great chemistry and did a fantastic job of acting out their characters' emotions.

Unfortunately, the second half was awful. Once the lead couple solidified their relationship, the straight-forward plot suddenly became nothing but pointless drama, misunderstandings, and endless crying. I was seriously disappointed with how the once strong, intelligent characters turned into immature idiots.

  • Come and Hug Me

    13. Come and Hug Me

    Korean Drama - 2018, 32 episodes

    5.5

I love murder mysteries and thrillers with a touch of romance! This drama, however, quickly turned into a romantic melodrama with a few action scenes thrown in just to remind you that it's supposed to be about a serial killer's victims. The overall story is drawn-out, repetitive, and boring. The relationship between the leads is childish and awkward to watch. I actually skipped many of their scenes together. Plus, even though the ML is a police officer, this drama made the police absolutely useless.

  • Hello Monster

    14. Hello Monster

    Korean Drama - 2015, 16 episodes

    3.0

"Hello Monster" started out strong with interesting criminal cases that were solved step-by-step using psychology and criminal profiling. The FL wasn't my favorite, but at least she could defend herself and wasn't a total airhead. I flew through the episodes, wanting to see what happened next...until around the halfway mark. The drama's writers threw all logic out the window and turned the characters into useless crybabies as they began to uncover the secrets of their childhoods.

I could rant for days about the dumpster fire of an "ending". Without a sequel, this drama has no end -- it just abruptly stops right in the middle of their investigation.

  • Kyou wa Kaisha Yasumimasu

    15. Kyou wa Kaisha Yasumimasu

    Japanese Drama - 2014, 10 episodes

    2.0

This drama had the potential of being a powerful story about a woman who realizes she's in an unhealthy, toxic relationship and that her selfish boyfriend has manipulated her into thinking their relationship problems are normal. But it doesn't and I'm left feeling uncomfortable and annoyed.

The ML took advantage of the FL's inexperience and desire to be loved. She was always in the wrong, always having to apologize, always feeling like everything was exclusively her fault.  Their relationship problems were always dismissed as side-effects of their age difference, which was just infuriating and stupid.

This is one of those dramas that will make you seriously wish she chose the 2ndML instead.
