Xu Qin is a classic example of someone who has been manipulated and controlled since childhood that she does not have an identity and cannot make a single life decision for herself out of fear. She is really pitiful. You can see that she has a little bit of fight in her with the way she handles her career but when it comes to her family she is truly helpless

Yes there is gratitude and guilt - I think she is being guilt tripped by that mom and her circumstances all the time. In episode 10 it was very clear she accepts who she is in her entirety and what she expects from the ML if she has to stand up for herself. That scene was mind blowing and I completely agree- her whole life is at stake here and she has no confidence to stand up for herself unless the ML can offer her way more. I wish the ML can accept his shortcomings and psychological issues too. I have not seen it so far
