Bats and zombies in a ghost town

This drama was already promising at 24 episodes, but it should have been 16 episodes. Repetitive flashbacks were extraneous. I don't think we needed to be reminded of these scenes, The ghost town where it was staged was either a deserted war-torn or flooded town, or some ugly CGI. The bats vanished fast in the early episodes, and the zombies must have gone to sleep. I am surprised that the stranded travelers did not explore the town for supplies or better accommodations. They just stayed in the hotel, run down in some places. The store where Er found the sneakers had clothing hanging in the shop, although they should have rot in twenty years. Was the train track sealed off on both ends, or where they just lazy, to try to escape from the bats and zombies who took a snoozefest? The blue ocean, which I am sure was CGI, was the prettiest view. The production quality was bad in many episodes. Extreme closeups with a bland expression do not constitute acting skills.

After bingewatching the first 16 episodes in the last three days (in October 2023), I skipped to the final episode. The timid teacher was the the mastermind. LOL I don't think I missed anything important. This was my Halloween entertainment.

Final rating: 55

Melodrama of the Month Award winner

It was painstaking watching the main characters being tortured emotionally or physically for thirty-nine episodes. I am just relieved that it is over, and that the characters are out of sight, out of mind. Cheng Yi and Zhang Yu Xi kept the drama flowing, even when it dragged with the singing and evilness on screen. Cheng Yi is the official Melodrama King. Yunshen suffered physically and emotionally, and cried in two-thirds of the drama, Fu Yunshen would have lived a happy life with a different mother. Zhang Yu Xi is Main Lead Queen of the Month. Zhu Jiu put up with a lot of sh^& from Mother Jiang Shu Ning.

This should be labeled as a musical melodrama. The singing was extraneous, overt and repetitive. If the director wanted so much singing, he should have told the actors to sing these songs, instead of using phantom singers. Otherwise the BGM was very good.

It was no surprise that the two pathetic villains, Fu Xi Zhou and Jiang Shu Ning, had their redemption at the end. They were unscrupulous, vindictive, manipulative. They should have died instead of the nicer people, Grandpa, Dr Ji, Aunty Dr Addy, Grandma, Zhu Jiu's Mother and Father. I was cringing when Ruan Ruan and Xi Zhou reunited at the end, and had babies.

The singing diluted the emotion on screen. If they had trimmed the singing and some of the episodic content, it would have been very effective as a 30 episode drama.

Final rating: 8, with deductions for the singing and the pathetic villains and their evilness

This drama reminds me of the Kdramas with the drama plot and incessant singing and the song quality. In particular, Yunshen and Zhu Jiu reminded me of Winter Sonata's YuJin and Joon Sang, with their emotional torture and the manipulative mothers.

Family drama movie

A heartfelt family story about a daughter coming home after the death of her father. She meets her half-sisters for the first time, and they bond over hotpot. Very good production values in the writing, casting, acting, directing, directing and editing departments. Toward the end the movie, I wanted it to keep going, but there is a two hours' time restriction. It would have been nice if she had kept the Fagara restaurant open for business. Life in Hong Kong might have financial rewards and job security, and restaurant business might be hard and rewarding, but the family tradition of Hsia Liang's Hot Pot secret recipe would continue.

Sammi Cheng looks youthful, fifteen years after her movie with Andy Lau, "Magic Kitchen". Sammi Cheng, Megan Lai and Li Xiao Feng were perfectly cast as the sisters. Their acting performances were awesome.

Excellent desert adventure

Parallel World is one of the best desert sands drama, with very good production values in directing, casting, acting, editing, music, cinematography, special effects. Ni Ni's acting performance is exceptional. This is the second drama I seen her in. She and Bai Yu lit up the screen. The other actors did a very good job. Jin Han is one of the best character actors.

Ths Old Man and the Painter's random scenes disrupted the story flow. It might have been better if they were identified as writer and creator of the plot. Long Zhi looked pretty, but she didn't spark as the villain.

A martial arts adventure costume drama

Sometimes, a 40 episode costume drama may seem to drag and lag, but this was not the case with Mysterious Lotus Casebook. It felt as if there were less than 40 episodes, and that the story should keep continuing. This was a fast track drama that did not hesitate, and flowed effortlessly to its conclusion.

Fluid scriptwriting, strong directing and action direction, professional acting skills, creative set designs, very good editing and costume designs, and songs and BGM that did not sound repetitive for the first time in a C-drama. The flashbacks looked subtle, and did not disrupt the concentration during the scenes.

The Three Musketeers Avengers impressed the viewers with their martial arts skills and their evolving comradeship. Blink, and you might miss their stunts on screen. Cheng Yi, Joseph Zeng and Xiao Shun Yao looked like professional martial artists while performing their fight scenes. I have seen their previous drama works, but they stood out in this drama.

The two delulu villains, Jiao Li Qiao and Shan Gu Dao, were OTP. Shan is arguably the best nutcase villain in C-dramas in recent years. He throws a shade on other drama villains.

Fox Spirit wins the Cutest Character in a Non-Speaking Role Award. Hire her for more dramas, please.

Overall rating: 9.5
.5 deduction for some odd editing toward the end of the drama, extraneous blood spitting, a somewhat ambiguous ending and a few dull supporting characters.

Another disconnected dynasty story

This was a filler drama for me. Thirty-nine episodes with filler writing, disjointed plot, plot holes, short cuts, mediocre CGI, good fighting skills, mediocre battle scenes, mediocre villains, grandiose ambitions. Di ZiYuan, Han Ye and Luo Mingxi were obsessed with a decade's old conspiracy that annihilated the Di clan and its 80,000 soldiers.

Han Ye
Jing's Crown Prince Charming's countenance was pretty to behold. He seemed to have one pained expression most of the time. He was steadfast, but possessed with the guilt complex of the Di clan massacre, and was obsessed with Di Ziyuan for ten years. His POV or internalizing over Ziyuan was OOTP (obsessive over the top). He loved diving off cliffs, and he survived without a scratch on his face or any broken bones. His red costume made him look regal.

Ren Anle/Di Ziyuan
Ren Anle Pirate Captain of the Anle Abode Navy was OTP. She was touchy feely wiith the Crown Prince, but he was nonplussed. He was too polite to tell her to back off. The People's Princess Di Ziyuan had two mantras, "80,000 soldiers", the #1 song hit of Jing, and "30,000 soldiers", the #2 song hit of Jing. Her heavy black eyebrows and white foundation makeup oveshadowed Dilraba's acting performance. Her red costumes made her look regal.

Luo Mingxi
Luo Mingxi was too mopey. He was always harping about the revenge plan, but we never saw him planning anything. It might have been all in his head. He was obsessed with Ziyuan, because she was his bride -to-be since birth. Meanwhile, he had the dreaded cough. His red costume made him look regal.

Mingxi was Jing's best tactitian, but I would not want him handling my invasion plan. He rerouted a massive Jing army enroute to Qingnan City to Ziyuan 's distant location to rescue her, instead of splitting the army into two rescue units, to assist General Anning and General Ziyuan. That was a waste of manpower because Han Ye had already rescued Ziyuan. The trio did not set out for Qingnan to assist Anning and Qignan. General Anning died, and Qingnan fell into the hands of the enemy Qin. Han Ye, Ziyuan, Mingxi, Anning failed the strategic planning and execution, teamwork and collaboration executive courses.

The acting, BGM and song music were very good. The writing and CGI were subpar. The producing, directing, writing and editing teams failed in teamwork and collaboration.

Legend of Doctor Cha

This was an average drama with saccharine acting and dialog; two reasons why I have stayed away from K-Dramas for many years. The plot had potential as a drama about infidelity and character growth. What we saw, was compromise, mistrust and miscommunication within the family unit, and narrow-mindedness.

Parent and child communication is flawed. Yes, the ingrates, Seo In Ho and Mother Kwak, did confide in each other, but they had an ulterior motive; to use and denigrate the passive FL. The two most ethical characters, Dr Cha and Mother Oh also kept secrets and sweet-talked each other, instead of trusting each other with their problems. In fact, the Seo family was deliberately undermining the mother, and enabling the father, by keeping Dr Seo’s illicit affair from Cha. Ms Oh thought her son-in-law was a saint and paragon of virtue for twenty-five years. The moral of the plot was that one should turn a blind eye, and obey the husband and mother-in-law.

Thank God, Cha rejected Seo's last ditch attempts to lure her back to the family. The husband, daughter and son, and MIL needed to appreciate the good life they had with the servile wife, mother and daughter-in-law at their beck and call.

I can't imagine the females' attraction to Seo in Ho. Why did two women with some higher education, cling to him? He had no charm or good looks. Did he throw all his money at the Mistress and Lovechild? He certainly treated the legitimate wife as a servant. He stopped having sex with the wife for ten years. After Eunsoo’s birth, did he travel to USA frequently, to be with his second family? They only returned to Korea three years ago.

Most of the characters were pathetic, with the exception of Dr Roy Kim. A shame that he did not wait for the three years’ time jump, and romance Doctor Cha. I understand Cha’s reluctance because of her illness that could end her life at any time, but Kim and she had a connection. He was the only one who was looking out for her wellbeing and happiness.

Uhm Jung Hwa was credible as Doctor Cha, the passive wife and mother and daughter-in-law, who would not challenge the manipulative, ungrateful husband and MIL, and the pampered children. One wonders if they will turn eventually into carbon copies of the father and grandmother. Cha found her identity and self-worth when she resumed her medical profession.

Kim Byung Chu as Seo in Ho; a brilliant surgeon and lying, cheating husband! Seo’s slapstick comedy act was overdone and tedious. The facial quirks, pratfalls and outbursts diminished Seo's professionalism as a topnotch surgeon and department head. He should have been in showbiz. Seo was duplicitous, verbally abusive, manipulative, and belligerent. In the end, he was promoted to Hospital Director. WTF! It would not surprise me if he preyed on another woman after his divorce.

Myung Se Bin as Choi Seung Hee; an entitled mistress! I finally understood her behavior when it was revealed that she was from a rich family, and inherited half of the father’s estate. No wonder, Ms Kwak was bitter that her son had not married Choi.

Min Woo Hyuk as Roy Kim; a knight in shining armor! It is disappointing that he did not end up with Dr Cha.

This drama had too much filler and comedic moments. The drunk sequences were excessive. It should have been trimmed to twelve episodes. The final episode was boring. Dr Kim should have waited for the three years' time jump, and wooed Dr Cha. That was enough time for Cha to find her identity and purpose in life. Most of the final episode was filler.

Makeup Rating 7
The actresses wore whiter than white foundation that made them look ghostly and ghastly. Isn't cosmetology a big industry in Korea?

Costume Rating 7
Some of Cha's outfits were dowdy, and Ms Kwak shopped at the Fugly Fashion House. Kwak's outfits were ugly.

Writing Rating 6 Too much filler and inane dialog
Directing and Editing Rating 7 Too much filler scenes stretching the drama.

Predictable plot with a charming main couple

I came to this drama for Wang Zi Qi, after watching him in The Love I Give You. He and Wang Yu Wen made a a cute couple in both dramas.

The unscrupulous villainess, Ran Xiwei, was the worst character in the drama. With her wealth and connections, she should have employed a fashion designer/stylist. Her fugly fashions and drab hairstyle worked against her. She could not even compare or defeat the Plain Jane Gu Xi Xi and her boring fashions and dull ponytail hairstyle. Some of Xi Xi's Cici design fashions were lovely.

The seniors, Alex, Grandma, Mother and Father were very nice. Shang KE and Mu Rou Na did not work for me. Perhaps different actors would have made them look more appealing and attractive. The different in their maturity level, experience and intelligence was 1000%.

Best Friend Xiaoyu and Fei'Ang should have coupled earlier in the plot, and receive a sub plot. I suspected that they would end up together at some point. Fei'Ang needs a hairstylist.

Almost flawless reality show

Excellent casting of Youn Yuh Jung, Lee Seo Jin, Jung Yu Mi, Park Seo Joon and Choi Woo Shik! This was one of the best examples of teamwork and collaboration. Language has no barriers. Many visitors from many countries came to Youn's Stay for a meal, laughter and fresh air. Thanks for the delicious foods and entertainment. Jung Yu Mi's portrait should be hung in the Museum of Modern Art.

This drama filmed before Youn Yuh Jung won the Academy Award. The B&B guests must have shouted with joy when they heard the news. First time in their life, meeting an Oscar winner.

The only flaw was the extraneous, intrusive loud singing and loud BGM in 90% of every episode. It became jarring and ear-splitting. How do Korean people function in their daily lives?

Memory is fleeting.

Memory was well done, except for the most asinine, ridiculous editing flaw and some shaky camera. In every episode, a scene would have a hiccup. They would say a few lines, and they would instantly repeat the sequence. It served no purpose, because it was not the ML having an Alzheimers moment. It would appear at random, and would involve other characters, as well. It felt as if the viewer was having a brain fart or Alzheimers moment.

Lee Sung Min did a realistic portrayal of a man being tested by his creeping illness and the conspiracies popping out of the woodwork. The writer made Park Tae Song (...LSM) earn his pay. Lee Jun Ho and Song So Hee were excellent as Jung Jin and Sun Hwa, the guardian angels to Park Taek Seo during his good or bad times. The Memory castlist was perfect. The main and supporting actors gave memorable performances.

Excellent food show

This was an excellent show; a beautiful adventure with a fun team. CEO Lee was the quirky boss with a sense of humor. Executive Director Yu worked the hardest, rolling gimbap and making rice bowls. Senior Chef Park made perfect fricken, ramyeon and corn dogs, and worked the front kitchen, too. Intern Choi was Server and PR Manager, conversing in mutiple languages with dinner guests. Intern Kim washed pots and dishes, and made delicious fricken. Security Guard Inspector Perro was diligent. I hope he got meals every day of operation.

The team work and comraderie was amazing. They demonstrated that language, culture and a sense of humor have no barriers. Perro and Tae Hyung were my most favorite employees.

All the foods looked delicious. Food presentation was superb. Yu Mi and Park Seo Jin worked like professional chefs. Senior Intern Kim Tae Hyung made some beautiful looking fricken and ramyeon.

I was sad that the restaurant closed down after a week. It could have gone on forever. Ceo Lee should have studied the logistics of when to open and close the restaurant, for effective sales performance. I believe siesta time is a popular habit in Mexico.

Welcome to Dysfunctional Family aka Centimeter of Love.

Scenes with ML Xu Qing Feng and FL Guan Yu Ping together were enjoyable. Their love story was charming, but their interactions with family members were aggravating. Several satellite characters were annoying, clingy, irritating, selfish, self-centered, manipulative, domineering, devious, conniving.

The gap between parent and child is apparent in the Xu and Guan household, as the matriarch Xu Xiu Lan and patriarch Guan rule the respective roosts. They have obsessive love for their sons, Xu Qing Feng and Guan Zhen Lei respectively, controlling and manipulating every free moment of their lives. Mrs Xu and Mr Guan are the autocratic dictators of their households.

Madam Xu gets up every morning, cooks breakfast, and takes it to her son’s home or office. She is possessive, obsessive, suffocating, stifling. She cooks, cleans, makes his bed, shops for his groceries and clothing. She picks up women for him to marry, and gives these leeches the key to his apartment. That boy is too timid and passive around her. She walks all over him.

Mr Guan coddles his thirty years’ old son who cries like a baby, and always runs to his father for comfort. This is the most pathetic part of the drama. Mr Guan, seventy years’ old with a heart condition, treats his son like he is a baby, and shelters him. Mr Guan shows no love or appreciation for his second daughter, a successful professional. She is the bank, financing the Guan family members. He demands that Guan Yu Ping give her money to the lazy good-for-nothing brother, and denigrates her frequently. Zhen Lei, in turn, denigrates his older sister throughout the drama. There were times I wanted to shake Guan Yu Ping, and tell her to get the hell out of the Guan family, change her name, and leave no forwarding address.

Madam Xu, Mr Guan, Zhen Lei, Lin Jie, Female Doctor dominate the plot with their obsessive, possessive, aggressive, maniacal, lunatic, clingy behavior. While these five actors displayed a wide acting range, and deserve the Maniacal Lunatic Award, they shifted focus from the lovers’ story.

Tong Da Wei is a likeable actor, but his permanent smirk and lack of emotion, made him look like a puppet actor and puppet character. Tong Li Ya is a charismatic actress, and her portrayal of Captain Guan is stellar.

The final episode, which included a very nice wedding with no food service, turned into propaganda film for the country and the fight against COVID-19. The statement adds realism to the plot, but the flag flying and political allegiance were overdone. The production company might have used this crutch, to get the drama past the censorship board.

The version I watched on YT has no opening credits on the episodes, and the singing is suppressed. May God bless the people who did this miracle. The directing, acting, editing, wardrobe, set design, music were very good. This is the first drama that I watched, where I cannot complain about the editing, extraneous flashbacks, excessive loud singing or loud BGM.

Adventure with Xiao Se

Martial arts team drama is not my usual genre, but the group members were not students at the academy, learning as they go... except for Motor Mouth Lei Wei Ji. Many times he would not shut up, but he did have exceptional sword skills, and he was loyal to his companions. He and the annoying eunuch Jinyan were the only actors who showed their acting range, and deserve the award for OTP acting. They were wired every day on set. There are many good looking actors in the cast, btw.

The final stretch was non-stop action and intrigue. Xiao Se Chu He is the first C=drama prince to walk away from the throne. He passed it to older brother Bai Chong (#2 prince). They were technically, the last two princes standing.

Bad Prince Yu Chi took the easy way out, and stabbed himself in the heart. I never felt sorry for him. He was wound too tight. 🤯🤯🤯 He was a quirky looking actor, who might be handsome in real life. He reminded me of Oh Ji Oh and Villain Prince in Scarlet Heart Ryeo.

Yu and Wuxin's birth mother had three men in love with her in the past...I guess. I am not sure if Emperor was in love with her, and sired Yu Chi, just to fill the lineage chart. The last man, #1 Handsome Swordman, took Consort Xuan away from Tianqi City at the end.

Rating 8

0.5 deduction for the extraneous use of BGM overlaying dialog. I depend on subtitles, but I like to hear the actors talking their native language. Someone, send a petition to the production companies... Stop the loud BGM and loud singing!

0.5 deduction for choppy scene splicing by the film editor. Conversations were disjointed when the character in the alternate scene completed the sentence from the previous scene.

1.0 deduction of putting Wuxin and Tang Lian on the shelf most of the drama. They were the two most enigmatic and skilled characters, and the actors were handsome, too.

Disaster on a fast track

I decided to watch this Chinese disaster movie packed into two hours. I got lost with the earthquake/crumbling mountainside/typhoon plot. A decent production with very good CGI! The actors did a very good job. They didn't determine if ten years of drilling the tunnel in the mountain weakened the terrain, but they did mention an earthquake in the Indian Ocean as being the trigger of the local earthquake. The funniest line was when one of the workers went up to Ms Ding and said a storm (...typhoon?) was imminent, any second now. Low and behold, the storm hit the area, a second later. Really? The movie was on the fast track, no planning and execution, just execution. Othewise, the movie would be three hours long.

Zhu Yilong was very good in a non-drama role. I liked his father. The actors/characters were supporting the earthquake and collapsing mountains.

Revenge is the new K-drama trope.

Revenge drama has become the new K-drama trope, and this production company uses eccentric characters and eccentric fashions in an attempt to differentiate it from the competition.

The plot and subplots were predictable, and the characters were predictable, over the top or blasé. The two female leads dominated the entire plot with their eccentricities, mood swings and fashions. Fifty percent of the women's fashions were fugly or over the top. EVE evolved into a revenge fashion romance melodrama drama.

As usual, the director and film editor chopped up the flow of the episodes with extraneous flashback filler, or flashbacking scenes to clarify actions after the fact. The flashbacking scene seemed relevant to the plot, and should have been presented in chronological order of the story. The director threw Fluidity and Lucidity out the window.

Ra El was passive, So Ra was bipolar aggressive, Kang was passive, Lawyer Seo was passive. The main and supporting cast were very good at stare acting. The director was not really directing, he was telling them when to stare blankly at the camera. This type of emotion does not emote on film, and looks like ... stare acting. The lunatic characters did a very good job acting like lunatics. There were many filler villains. So Ra was Queen Lunatic Villain.

The final episode was deflating. As the episode was winding down, I concluded that Kang might be alive, and in a witness protection program, and that So Ra might be pretending she was mad, so she would not be charged with the multiple murders of her father Prime Minister and other individuals, and the attempted murder of Ra El.

Overall ratings
Revenge 6 - planning and execution were flawed and mediocre.
Fashion 5 - do the rich really dress in the daytime, as if they are going to an awards show?
Romance 3 - boring stare acting and boring sex by Ra El and Kang. XD
Stare acting 9 - several award winning performances
Music 5 - repetitive singing
Ending 6 - predictable
Violence 8 - excessive
Teamwork - 2
