Just Okay at the End

From the first episode, I thought I knew what I was getting into, and I confess, the first few episodes did seem to confirm my thoughts! But by the 18th episode, I had lost a lot of interest. In my opinion, there was way way more that could have been done with the writing. I understand it was a dark comedy thing they were going for, and the comedy was many times really good! But the villains were lackluster, and the development of characters was nearly non-existent. The villains kept doing the exact same thing (that OBVIOUSLY didn't work), and when Vincenzo would intercept it, they'd be like :O. But you kept doing the EXACT same things?? And the romance between Vincenzo and Cha Young, like I enjoyed it, but when it came to Cha Young's character values, it seemed way too muddled. At least there could have been some sort of conflict in that area, since she was initially portrayed to somewhat have some reserve towards how far she was willing to go, vs Vincenzo. There was also the wasted opportunities for the op character and even the writing of the Plaza's people was questionable sometimes (felt unbelievable/convenient). But anyways, that's just my gripe and this is just my opinion. Though it made finishing the last few episodes a hassle, the show was still a solid okay, I won't argue with that.

I enjoy watching chinese high school drama and i cam across this. Start was okay and it did progress well but the second male lead was way too pitiful. The entire cast was very nice with good acting and the background itself gave a good insight of the 90s china. The flow of the story was good but predictable and the chances of 16 year boy travelling to find out who is mother dated was way too much. And the 2nd male lead still loving the Female lead was much pitiful.
I would like a second season of what happens after the high school is shut down, where did everyone end up, how and when did mingyu gets in the picture. Everything was super rushed and super confusing. It feels like a void is made up in the story line.

It's Good

This drama is a good one. Now it's not the best but it's not the worst. I loved the chemistry between Sarawat and Tine. And I liked the slow progression of the couple that we don't usually see in BLs. But my favorite thing from this whole show are the side couples. Drake and Phukong plus Man and Type were the perfect side couples for me. I wish we would have seen more of Drake and Phukong though because I believe their story was a good one. Man and Type were the best to me loved the chemistry and looking foward to this couple in more BL's just the best hands down.

Now the bad about this drama was how darn obsessed Sarawat was. I was a little creeped out but awing at the same time. Am I the only one?

Favorite Couple: ManType
They were the cutest and gave us a little break from PhukongDrake and SaraTine.

FINAL THOUGHT: Overall good BL. Good acting. Ok story. Great couples.

Okay this drama had me all the way through until around episode 10... as a devoted K-Drama lover, i dont usually watch many other dramas from outside korea (with the exception of filipino dramas) as i personally find C-dramas WAY too cheesy and overdone *cough cough - meteor garden*, but for some reason this drama was actually okay for me.. but thats not to say that it wasnt cheesy nor overdone cs SIS IT FREAKING WAS
In all honesty, if it were not for the lead couple's chemistry, i wouldve probably dropped it at ep 7 but DAMN mr. Ling had me fangirling. so if youre looking for some cute couple feels then you should definitely give this a watch - well, that is if youre prepared for some fked up shii to go down.
like other c-dramas ive watched (but never completed), this too was WAY TOO MUCH. i could understand a few plot twists and whatever but there was just SO MUCH freaking unnecessary drama. they really didnt need to include that many unnecessary characters, sub plots, etc. (e.g. multiple SERIOUS crimes, amnesia, daddy/mommy issues, business side plots, etc.)
Even tho this drama was lowkey annoying (i skipped ALOT), just couldnt drop it because of the main couple + if Xia Lin werent pregnant after ep 18, i probably wouldnt have finished the drama (im a sucker for baby scenes >o<)
All in all, I would still give it a solid 8 since it did keep me entertained and was too cute to not get a decent score. Would recommend for those who dont mind a wavering and somewhat fked up plot

Slowburn.. But good

The first question came to me. After watching the drama is that the ML was serious the whole time. I mean come one look at him he's hot.. But he smiled like for 2 or 3 times in the entire drama. This is my first chen weiting drama... And i want more ?

The leads lack chemistry i mean seriously... Yang mi you, had amazing chemistry with all your previous male leads how come you lack with this one?

Second lead couple.

The 2nd leads the emperor and his consort were... Extreme, either too kind or too annoying. Not. My cup of tea.

On the other hand, the story of the blind girl and the general was great... Too bad they didnt give enough screen time.

Slow burn romance.

Short and Sweet

I was surprised with not only how much I loved this series but also how much I learned about colors lol I kinda got a Yandere/Stockholm Syndrome vibe from the mono-probe thing but that didn't change my liking. The storyline was actually really sweet with a little chessiness. The chemistry seemed very well done (obvious bonus in BL) and there's visuals for days lol I would be happy with a S2 but I'm satisfied overall. Even though the eps are short, don't steer away from it! I'd recommend to a BL newbie or even a Kdrama fan

One of the best dramas

In my opinion this is one of the best crime and paranormal dramas.
The drama is quite scary, especial the first episode, when they show what happened in the past.
As it progresses the drama also becomes quite emotional, and here the OST plays a big role. Somewhere is a very emotional song and it is played during the most important scenes.
The actors did their job very well. The most I liked Choi Yoon aka Father Mateo. I think Jae Wook did a great job in his character portrayal. Father Mateo impressed me the most because he was deeply hurt by what happened to his family, yet he was calm and considerate. It was touching how he protected Mi Jin's son from seeing his dead mother in episode 7, also how he took care of Seo Yoon. How he tried to protect her when the door opened and she got possessed, also how she treated her after, during her exorcism and after she was exorcised. Was impressive how she was sleeping on him when they were taking her home and how he was holding her hand. Felt like he took a special care of her. I think they have potential as a duo for a second season in which she chases spirits and he exorcises them. Also in last episode he was ready to die to save Hwa Pyeong when they were both in water. I think he also softened Gil-Young, by helping her understand that Hwa Pyeong also has his wounds. Hwa Pyeong was more reckless, but he was also ready to sacrifice himself to save Mateo. This was also impressive. However I think Father Mateo is one of the best characters i saw in a drama.

Started with high expectation and ended with frustration

GOOD SIDE: MewGulf's unbeatable chemistry, bb Gulf's improved acting skill.

NEGATIVE: basically everything else lol or hic, idk whether to laugh or cry out of my frustrations OTL

I've read so many complains about the script of ss1 and wondered if all those ppl who complained also watch ss2, how would they feel lol. may be throw up? This is season came like an additional 'gift' for Waanjais like me and was scripted as per Mame's 3rd book about the couple (while ss1 was based on 1st and 2nd) which means the amount of content to spread into 12 eps are not as much as ss1, But it doesn't mean that the production team can work awfully-poorly and manipulated the fans' love for the main couple, not to mention this ss they have strong financial backups from all brands (and that's why there's pr scene everywhere even with their kiss in ep 11, omg please anything but please spare me the kiss OTL). Why tf even at finale ep I cannot my couple getting married as the trailer and why tf I have to wait can watch special ep though (although I complained but I'm still buying it lol). I still have great gratitude towards P'Mame for creating a chance for MewGulf being together, but sorry this ss she performed and has led a poor direction for the series' sequel. Not to mention the biggest second lacking is the series is not directed by P'Tee anymore with his great choice of lighting and camera angles.

Conclusion: the ss2 for me is good to watch up until ep7 (right before they parted through each others and the series barely could survive without MG's chemistry ;__;). But please don't jump in ss2 without watching the ss1 first, after ss1, you have all choices of whether to cont to watch or not, my recommendation is 75% because of Mew Gulf who saved the series, sorry to say that but that's true.

Top notch cast and acting all around. Killer OSTs - there is a valid reason why HDL OSTs completed took over the charts in Korea. IU and Yeo Jin Goo not only nailed their characters - their chemistry and acting were perfect - fantastic partnership between two of Kdramas most talented young actors as acknowledged by the K-industry and media. If you're looking for mushy sickeningly romantic scenes then this drama isn't for you. Yet there was plenty of moving and heart-melting moments between the two leads. Huge shout out to the supporting cast for moving the story forward and keeping the momentum going. My family, group of friends and I were emotionally invested through and through - the main plot, side stories (in hindsight, all were foreshadowing), the chemistry between the cast, humour, cinematography and music but most prominent - the level of acting, kept us glued to the tv screen every weekend. Hoping for another drama with Yeo Jin Goo and IU - our favourite actors after watching the masterpiece that is Hotel Del Luna. Highly recommended!!!

Burden of the Past

There is no doubt that Korea still holds a major position in dramas in Asia in spite of the rise of China in this industry. This story is very interesting and well-developed - with the story spanning across centuries. The twists in the story were unexpected and very craftily woven. The two lead actors are good looking. Good looking actors and actresses often help.

In comparison to Chinese dramas, the male characters in Korean dramas tend to be more chauvinistic in behaviour. This may because Chinese dramas have been under scrutiny not to portrait certain values or indeed Chinese society especially in the larger cities have become a lot more receptive to women's status in the society.

The English title of this drama, however, was very poorly translated. A goblin is an ugly dwarf-like creature. But the lead character is handsome and tall - a complete mismatch. Wonder whether the translator knew this. A better title could be Immortal, Demi-god, Burden of the Past or the like of these.

Completely obsessed

I'm obviously biased when I say this drama has become one of my favorites for bls, they had so good chemistry that made me fall for their characters. The character development of Noey was amazing to see cuz he was such a troublemaker. Seeing Noey trying to improve himself was so cute. He was so stubborn, it was 1st for Thi cuz of his crush but when he started to become self-aware of how he used to be you can tell that Noey no longer wanted to be the person he was before he met Thi. He was so caught up in being too egotistical and chaotic that he never noticed the people he was hurting. It wasn't until his mother got hurt that he stopped and do better for himself and his family. Thi was just the trigger to get him to see that. Seeing them fall in love was so cute cuz Thi was so oblivious to his own feelings when he met Noey. I was a bit confused at the start if Thi had feelings for Noey that only Noey could see or if it was just a misunderstanding cuz Noey assumed Thi liked him and he kept bringing it up showing how cocky he was knowing he was good-looking. Eventually, Thi did start developing a crush on Noey as for Noey I think he was interested in Thi from the start especially cuz he was turned off by the idea that Thi could have been attracted to him. He looked like he enjoyed the fact that Thi was attracted to him that Noey didn't notice himself falling to Tho. I feel like Noey was projecting his feeling onto Noey when he would bring up when he thought that Thi liked him 1st when it was the other way around. It was only because Thi and Noey kept running into each other for the both of them to realize that were falling for one another but Noey was more obvious vs Thi was oblivious. At the end when they showed the time jump cuz they were living apart due to Thi going to study in another university I felt like they were rushing the ending I'm happy that Noey graduated from university and Thi and Noey got their happy ending but it made me wish the ending wasn't so rushed. The writers and directors should of given us more of a plot near the end. I doubt we'll get a s2 so it can feel complete but I'm just happy for Thi and Noey. If they hadn't introduced Thi's stupid parents who broke them up due to them not liking Noeys past of being in a gang and thinking that Noey was going to ruin Thi's life I feel like the ending wouldn't have been so rushed. I understand where Thi's family is coming from but they were judging a book by its cover without getting to know Noey 1st and refused to.

Where to begin, I have to remember that this is being written by a young man who is the main lead in this venture, his own venture. Zhang Ruo Yun did amazing! Since this is my first time viewing his acting abilities, this drama series makes me want to see more of him in other projects he has done already. I always say that a movie or drama series doesn't become a hit without the rest of the cast and in this series they were all amazing. The visual with the wall was genius!

I only had one quip of the storyline and that is... listen... I know men will be men but dang mostly in every drama I have seen, only two dramas men were loyal to the woman they love. The flirting mentality of a man I ask why all the teasing and temptations of different women in front of them when the character already is committed to one? I would love to see a drama series more than ONCE that a man is loyal to Love such as 10 miles of Peach Blossom (Eternal Love) or Legend of Fu Yao! I would love to see this in "Joy of Life"! This is just my opinion.

I know Joy of Life will be a great hit and have seen that it has already started winning awards for that Thank you!

Unrequited Love

I'm a sucker for unrequited love themes. Just finished the whole thing hours ago.

I love how they showed Third's journey, his emotions going up and down. Hoping and then becoming disappointed to finally giving up. It was well paced for me and not rushed. This actor portrayed this part very well. I wasn't really thrilled with how rushed they made Khai realize his feelings for Third. This actor is excellent in his portrayal of being a douche. The sweet fluff moments are lacking for me too. Even after they have cemented their love. But the last confession was on point (and that, I stan!).

Same with the second couple, Un and Two. Their overall love story wasn't well paced in my opinion. Chemistry between the actors aren't really spot on. I want a little bit more of Two's journey of "bending" but I did love and was amused that he got "bent".

For Bone.. oh Bone.. my gentleman.. #JusticeForBone.. almost shed a tear for this angel.

The epilogue was a bit cringey for me. The worst scene for me was the accident but this was me being critical to any medical-related thing.

Actors are okay. Soundtrack forgettable. I recommend with an "okay, so-so" sign.

The story line was messy. But if you are new to kramas like me its a great start , and itll also get you more intrigued in different genres.   The romantic side is amazing due to the chemistry between the 2 actors (bong soon & min hyuks ) it shows how two opposites can attract. This was my first kdrama aswell as the drama that got me into all of these dramas. If you enjoy this I recommend ‘my secret romance , noble my love and oh my ghost’    If you havent watched this watch it noww because you wont be disappointed. Its GREATT????????
