Storyline is eh

I gave this drama a go bc of the ‘high’ ratings…but find the storyline lacking and the leads’ chemistry unconvincing. The leads look super young despite the age gap the characters portrayed. They could play high school kids vs young professionals.

Is China really lacking quality actors/actress that anyone could play leads? The casting is not suiting at all.

Can’t go through with it after ep 3. I really tried but the drama is just too hard to enjoy. I can’t find anything likable for this drama.

It's pretty much Gonjiam. The only likeable character was Jaemin (I think that was his name. The actual ghost hunter with brains)
I still don't understand why they all came together? They seemed to not actually know each other but did? It's all a bit weird and up in the air for me.

While I did like the movie, them fighting at at each other's throats CONSTANTLY took so much away from the movie for me.. I would under if that happened out of fear but even from the beginning the main dude was a asshole and annoying as hell.

I don't understand the reasoning behind letting him outside to see the headstone and show no bars on the door either. That confused me..

I felt more sympathy towards all the trapped ghost. I really wonder if it would have made a difference if they attempted to unlock doors/cages. Cuz can you imagine having ghosts back you up against the main thing keeping you all there? Lol but I get it. It's just a movie and I'm looking waaayyyy to much into it. But still.

With Halloween coming up, this would be a great movie to add to your list.

An interesting yuri-esque drama from the early 90s, bordering on GL

Sugao no Mama de is a story about two girls from very different walks of life. They cross paths and unexpectedly become involved with each other; this event ends up being one of the most significant encounters of their lives. Yumiko is from an upper class family, and she acts the part of a prim and proper young lady. She dresses in blouses and skirts, she listens to classical music, and works at a library. She's not entirely unhappy with her life; her days pass peacefully and without trouble. But she isn't connected with her true self and her most earnest desires. She hasn't felt fully in control of her life for a long time, after facing some troubles earlier in life that scared her back into her shell, so to speak.

Kanna is just the opposite. She's a confident, aggressive woman who is trying to make it as a dancer. She's a bit rough around the edges - she smokes and dresses like a bohemian. But something about her entrances Yumiko, and she can't ignore her admiration for the woman. When Yumiko sees her dance for the first time, her heart swoons like it hasn't in years, and its like she falls in love. The two become increasingly involved from then on.

I have seen quite a few older JDrama, and I have to say that this one goes pretty far towards a sort of lesbian relationship. It's not explicit, and the characters don't actually become intimate with one another. But so many scenes of them together are framed with strong romantic overtones. They rely on each other and think of each other constantly. The girls are far more important to each other than anyone else in their lives. There's a conversation part way through where they pledge to be together forever - even when they grow old and their children are gone. Even the opening to the show is all about the two of them - it ends with them holding hands and laughing in front of the sunset while the English lyrics say "true lovvveeee". That doesn't even touch the most romantic bits between them in the show, but I want to avoid spoilers. Really. It's kinda crazy that this exists.

There are male love interests though, to be clear. Thankfully, they're all fairly decent actors. The back half of the show focuses a bit more on them, and the drama is raised significantly. I think I didn't quite enjoy that part as much as the first half, but it was still quite good. The writing is consistent and compelling, adult and believable. I found that the drama between the characters didn't feel contrived like it does in other shows, and at the same time the characters behaved realistically in those situations instead of having overblown reactions. I think I'll really treasure this show. 8/10

Recommended if you like 90s Jdrama, GL, or stories about deep friendships between women.

Ignore the 7.8 rating. This show felt like a 8 at worst, 8.2 at best.

I don't know this is rated so low. Yes, it's a tad predictable, but it's also very interesting how the show got from point A to B. You'll be surprised where the show goes and you will most likely enjoy the ride. There's a lot to like about the show, but I don't want to spoil anything. But one thing you should know is if the 7.8 rating is steering you away because you feel like you could spend your time watching a better show, give it a chance. You would be surprised how good it can get in a short period of time. It's only 7 episodes at roughly an hour each. It's worth your time.

Somebody: "You mind saying that to me again?"

This Netflix series is definitely not easy to swallow but can become very intimidating if you pay attention to how it unfolds. So basically, I will say this series is a really nice piece of cake for those who love observing how good, complex, and CONSISTENT vicious characters can be written, without getting boring. The consistency in character is what I really liked about this series. This is what makes "Somebody" quite an interesting show for me, who loves dedicating their free time to analyzing the beauty in human grim. You don´t have this evil scumbag who suddenly changes for the Female Lead. You don´t need a detailed background to show that sometimes evil scumbags are just evil scumbags with no remorse. Sometimes there is nothing that anybody can do to prevent these "natural killers" from being born. They exist like hunters in the wild. Yuno´s life consisted of this side of him that just felt alive from hunting and IT. STAYED. CONSTANT. UNTIL. THE. ALMOST. VERY. END.

For those who are not invested in villainous characters like Yuno, 6.9 stars is a solid average. I can totally understand that a majority will not like or enjoy this piece of art. Even for me, a hunter for series like this, it´s hard to explain. On whatever thread I am on, I always try to analyze behavior that is seen as vicious, grim, weird, and unlogical. The point is, humans are led by emotions, these, however, are often perceived as irrational, while often they aren't. They are a direct response to a certain trigger, for a reason!! What makes arguments f.e. irrational, is when the base facts are not able to be proven right. And Yuno was most certainly led by his uncontrollable impulses, which would not stop, even if he met Kim Sum. Even if he "loved" her. He didn´t manage to control these impulses before, maybe never wanted to. So I don´t think that the series necessarily lacked logic in the world they created, but maybe it lacked context and depth.

I also really want to highlight the variety of this series in terms of characters: A disabled police officer, a shaman, and a main character with Asperger Syndrome. In a thriller/horror/suspense series! Really loved to see this. LGBTQ+ representation in K-dramas, especially in suspense dramas, is not common.

YUNO (Yun O/ Yun-O)
He doesn´t really change throughout the entire series, however, Kim Sum does have an impact on his behavior. As she was not harmed in their first meeting because he might have either grown interested or thought of a better way to torture her before death by using her vulnerability, always being excluded because of Aspergers, against her. Or BOTH? He is not the most strategic killer you´ll see in a drama, but one of the most active and creative ones. Using the app, pretending to be nice, doing background research (not shown), trying hard to set the right fake Ambiente, and killing depending on the situation. He always adapted his torture to the victim, sometimes didn´t even kill at all - aiming for the highest of emotional damage. So, to point this out, his killing itself is not the consistent part, as he not always kills his victims (right away?).

And this consistency made the ending so interesting. The viewer could not tell what he was planning on. Did he really want to live with her? Did he really love her, like how he said when he was choking on his own blood? Even if he did, did he still plan to kill her (and him?)? Building such an architecture for her, was the clue that he did indeed like her the most. I think that all this emotional insecurity makes the ending so intense to watch. I had to fight this weird urge to feel bad for him because his situation and ending were so pathetic. And kind of sad... and kind of righteous. The crew and editors really dedicated themselves to showing us a twisted scene where they confront the viewers with a serial-killers last vulnerability, his mortality, and exceptionally and almost unexpected fast death. (What I mean is, he had no unrealistic luck in surviving, he just died) LIKE ANY OTHER HUMAN BEING. No exception.

KIM SUM
She definitely took her part as the main character and also stayed somewhat consistent. The interest in murder was in her, from the start. She also did not become more vicious. She just behaved and stayed consistent. JUST that she initiated the kill was something that we could not get a hold of entirely. It made sense, it matched the series. But not quite predictable, as she really liked him. Just her outsmarting him was somewhat predictable. I loved how they managed to include SOME ONE :) in the dynamic, without making it awkward or weird to watch.

What I really found the most interesting, is that she was aroused by his behavior. Because these dark fantasies had built up inside of her and he was the personalization of what she always wanted to do to the people who treated her like a monster? This series has really overwhelmed me in some points, like no other. It also made me self-reflect about why I like what I like.

IM MOK WON
She/ They were a bit of a confusing variable. I really liked her character, just that I could not quite understand her role in this scenario. Was she like a medium between evil and good? Or a medium between chaotic evil and chaotic neutral? Or just the messenger between all the characters? Then she was basically just being used for communication. Her romance faded into nothingness. Her character depth was a bit unfulfilling.

YEONG GI EUN
She is a cop, but still managed to get into deadly situations in the same pattern. One time not knowing she will meet somebody with ill intentions and one time EXACTLY knowing what evil person she is dealing with. Both times she gets outplayed in a similar and cruel way. But why would she do it in the first place? Curiosity is not worth your death. She could have gone back once she noticed her wheelchair was not made for the place she was at. He was revealed as a killer by then. So she basically reached nothing but to risk her life and, which to be fair IS important, revealed the location of another victim of his.

Overall I really had an intense watching. It made me think and reflect and even shed a few tears. But I agree and acknowledge that this series is a special case and surely confusing and unenjoyable for people not obsessed with twisted characters and villains on a daily basis. They made the best they could and shared the story of a colorful trio in a small series consisting of only 8 episodes. "SOMEBODY" doesn´t have much left to offer but observation of a FOR ONCE almost entirely consistent serial killer in a K-Drama. Also, his visions, fast adaption, and grim creativity made YUNO an interesting persona to watch.

Basically, an abusive couple gets together and people romanticize them.

Does this series entertain you? Yes.
Does this mean it's good? Hell, no.

I feel like everyone in this series is a HUGE red flag (except my baby Techno), but the two mains just concur for the most toxic title.
Let's start with Tharn. Between the two of them, Tharn appears like the most normal and he's literally the one who abuses the roommate three times in two episodes. Not only he tricks drunk-Type into thinking they had sex, leaving bruises on him, not only he caresses sleeping-Type at night knowing all-full well how absolutely Type wouldn't want him to; but he also accept Type thinking he owes him sex. He forces Type to sleep with him, even after they get together. Yet, he's not as bad as Type.

Type is the most toxic character I've ever witnessed in a Thai series (and for the love of God, I'm watching Only Friend!). Type shows his least toxic traits in the first episodes: the homophobia and bullying is NOTHING comparing what comes into the further episodes. He is abusive, he HIT Tharn whenever he feel like he's not "scared" enough of him (somewhen between episode 8 and 9), he is manipulative and controlling in a way that's just too toxic. He doesn't show his love to Tharn, trying to cover up his sexuality and his feelings under the macho mask he wears. I mean, we got it, he has trauma, but I swear this doesn't even justify how he acts - not even a bit. And I hate that people do justify him with his trauma. This is concerning.

"We know it's wrong, but preaching won't help"

Women of the Night was a brutal look at women without a support system who were left to fend for themselves on the streets during post WWII Japan. Sisters Fusako and Natsuko took different roads, but both ended up at the same destination—prostituting themselves to survive. Once again, Mizoguchi showed the devastating affects of war and poverty on women, this time taking on topics that were often taboo.

Mizoguchi spared no one in this melodramatic look at the plight of women in the chaotic years after the war. A husband died, two children died, parents died, dying of malnutrition was a real fear, two sisters slept with the same man, opium was on the scene, STDs were dealt with, two characters were raped, gangs preyed on the weak, abortion was discussed, and pregnancy affected a main character. While life on the streets could be rough and deadly, Mizoguchi veered from informative into an area that felt exploitive.

Aside from desperation, the film was filled with anger, deep seething anger. Rage-filled Fusako hoped to infect as many men as she could. Natsuko only saw men as a way to make money, even willing to betray her sister to find a patron. The prostitution gangs fiercely guarded their territory, viciously attacking any woman who wandered their way or sought to turn straight. Men patrolled the streets looking for easy marks to rob and rape, further exasperating the predicament of young women on their own. Once "defiled" the girls often felt they had nowhere to turn but to prostitution.

Fusako had resisted turning to prostitution until the betrayal, which felt like an insincere reason for abandoning hope, and immediately diving into the world of street walking. By the end of the film, she made a 180 in the shadow of the Madonna in a bombed-out church that looked like a cemetery. It brought to mind the old Madonna (virgin) or whore definitions for women. She decided that she would work on behalf of all women for a world where their virtue could be protected. After being shown the dire straits women without family or fortune faced it felt insincere and an excuse for a hopeful ending. When the Purity Association had preached chastity at a women's clinic, the prostitutes jeered that they weren't turning tricks for fun and who would feed them if they quit? Would jobs suddenly be available and polite society accept them? Would men no longer take advantage of them? At one point there were 70,000 officially recognized prostitutes, not counting those who worked the streets. Mizoguchi repeatedly heaped humiliating trials and tribulations upon the female characters in this film and seemed to leave them with the false hope that simply walking away would provide them with food and shelter and a society that might come to accept them and be a safe place for women. After all the fury, degradation, and sorrow, the film's ending felt trite and unearned.

A very unique plot but.....

Ok, i must admit that this story is so cute, i liked all the characters: Jungwoo was so real, i felt his anger, his sadness and also his happiness; Choco and Milk represent a real “dog person” and “cat person”. About the uncle .. I do n't know what to say, he own a cafè, he 's flirty but it 's also a good person who gave work to his nephew. So it's all beautiful but there's a BUT! Choco were a dog, Milk were a cat.. why those love stories? I would have rated this higher but the fact that choco and milk were animals upsets me a bit..

I liked the theme of reincarnation but, as i said, this time is a little bit different.

fall in love every time meet you

As the male and female protagonists continue to interact, their hearts gradually bridge the gap between them. This gradual progression towards emotional intimacy is a testament to the depth of their connection. It's this very journey that enables them to truly understand and immerse themselves in each other's worlds. As they overcome obstacles and challenges together, their affection grows stronger, and they find solace in one another's presence.

Ultimately, the culmination of their shared experiences leads to a pivotal moment: their decision to marry. This choice represents the synthesis of their individual paths, merging them into a shared future. Their journey from strangers to soulmates, marked by twists and turns, laughter and tears, culminates in a celebration of their commitment to one another. Their union is not just a union of two individuals, but a merging of their dreams, hopes, and aspirations.

In conclusion, the drama beautifully portrays the intricate tapestry of human relationships. The male and female leads, initially brought together by the threads of destiny, navigate the complexities of their connection with resilience and tenderness. Their journey is a testament to the transformative power of genuine companionship and the gradual building of trust and affection. With moments of humor and poignancy interwoven throughout, their story resonates with audiences on a profound level. The drama's ultimate message lies in the idea that love can indeed emerge from the unlikeliest of circumstances and blossom into a union that transcends time, challenges, and individual differences.

A very unusual & simple story

I think this drama might become my favorite drama.
I liked so much the plot, I think I never watch a drama with this plot before! It's a very simple story. I liked both the characters: they are so different but so perfect togheter. More precisely I liked so much Yechan 'cause he's tall, he have muscles but he's like a baby, he's so pure and kind. I also enjoyed that, unlike must of people think, rural people in this drama are "open minded" despite to yul's father: a city man.

I would also add that the rural area is so beautiful like all the OSTs.

BEST KDRAMA EVER!!

I’ve been watching K dramas for almost 10 years now, and I haven’t watched any thing as good as this show. each story has its own unique approach and they’re all in all we connect to each other. Every story was beautiful and realistic. They have tackled different social issues and explored them. The only reason why I wouldn’t watch it because the emotions that I felt, I felt every pain of every character so I don’t think I would want to feel that pain. But overall the acting and stories are 100

It's never too late!

This drama is really good, the actors did an outstanding job on portraying their characters. Overall, the message of the drama was really inspiring: not letting your age determine the timeline. Although, it was really upsetting to see Jeong-suk waste 20 years of her life to a mediocre man and his stupid, immature, and pathetic mother. So obviously, I’ve been annoyed with those two. I feel a little bit for Seung-hi but she’s honestly an idiot for being so hung over a mediocre man.

I get that she was upset about In-ho ending up with Jeong-suk but I just don’t understand the blame on Jeong-suk. In-ho was the one who got her pregnant. I know that times were different back then, but anyone would’ve gotten an abortion (I know that’s easy said than done).

I just have so many issues with In-ho and his mom. I don’t feel bad that his mom got scammed and called a homewrecker. Also, it took THIS long for In-ho to realize that he basically fucked up. I can’t believe the amount of confidence he had when he insisted to not get a divorce— why would anyone stay with him? It just baffled me. I guess at least he gave his liver to Jeong-suk and proceeded with the divorce, but these are things he should’ve done a long time ago.

The siblings eventually started to appreciate their mother and become more independent which was great. But, the whole half-sister fiasco felt unnecessary. Yeah, it was cool that Eun-seo pretty much exposed the truth but it was strange to fight I-rang about who deserves a father and who doesn’t. Good thing that they made up.

It would be nice if Jeong-suk got together with Roy, but I agree with the sentiment as to why they didn’t end up together. Honestly, Roy just has mommy issues hence why he seeks validation for an older woman. The episode about him meeting his biological family made me really sad. Really good drama at the end, even though I think Jeong-suk's suffering is excessive.

fantastic drama

In the narrative of the drama, the male and female lead characters find themselves inexplicably intertwined by destiny right from their first encounter as strangers. Their journey is one marked by numerous highs and lows, as they navigate through the intricacies of their relationship. As they spend more time together, a magnetic pull begins to develop between them, drawing them closer in heart and spirit. Over time, they uncover layers of each other's personalities, forming a deep and meaningful connection that they come to treasure dearly.

The story is adorned with a multitude of humorous anecdotes that take place in the midst of their evolving relationship. These moments of levity provide the audience with laughter and lightness, adding a dynamic dimension to their journey. Equally, there are instances of profound emotion that evoke heartfelt reactions, bringing tears to the eyes of those who are invested in their story. These touching moments serve to underscore the authenticity of the characters' feelings and the genuine bond that is being forged.
