Sorry. Not my cup of tea. Really.

Idk but I find this very overrated. I think its because Yang2x and Lusi are famous that's why this became a hit. Otherwise its ...

1. Ok so here are reasons why I dropped it.
Lusi is pretty good at comedy. I also love her as princess Leyan but not here. I just can't vibe with her character. Like acting is okay but she doesn't have the "aura" I'm looking for in a strong badass FL. Some examples of FL with this so-called aura is YangMi, Li Qin, Zhao LiYing. Dilireba and Rachel Wang is also not bad. I hope you get what I mean.

2. Fight scenes are not engaging. They're just edited with no physical combat. Sword snow even did better even if it has also minimal physical combat. It would be better if the fight scenes where somewhere like Heroes or better if similar to Princess Agents.

3. The cloth swishing is so weirdd. Yeah this is a petty reason but it really bothers me.

4. Lusi's ponytail too high. But still pretty.

Nevertheless I still love it's OSTs and Posters. I also love YangYang. I love Lusi too but not here. Sorry.

A typical wuxia drama but an interesting one

I come here because many of my favourite actors (Yang Yang, Zhao Lu Si, Xuan Lu, Liu Rui Lin, etc.) are in the same show. But sadly Liu Rui Lin is somehow an antagonist here (know him as a carefree guy and a good friend in Miss Crow and Mr Lizard).

Back to the storyline. the story sets in a warring state period, but it is not a historical drama. Therefore, one may guess how the story unfolds. Simple Simple. The story is about the power struggles between royal family members and between states. The question is how the black fox and the white fox deal with these power struggles. So far, I think that the best part of the storyline is how the black fox takes care of the white fox. That's sweet and special.

In terms of acting, all of them are good. The fighting scenes are familiar, nothing new.

TOO MUCH "ME TOO" SYNDROME

Took Tencent quite a few years to wrap their head around creating a 3Lives3Worlds (aka Eternal Love) clone. I'm simply shocked at the speed it took for Tencent to now create a Word of Honor clone.

You see, Tencent had always been a "me too" company. You should see their other works. A lot of their anime derive from classic Japanese anime series. Anyone remember Ranma 1/2? Tencent has a clone of that work called Fox Spirit Matchmaker. Anyways, back to this series, which definitely is Tencent's version of Word of Honor.

PROS:
- Good cinematography
- Excellent CGI and effects
- FL kicks ass

CONS:
- Yang Yang doesn't give out the vibes of a Martial Master. His moves very clumsy like someone who never learned martial arts. Does he even train in martial arts before taking on such roles?
- Cheesy dialogues
- Cliche story gimmicks to drive plot forward
- Feels too much like an idol drama

It’s a chore to watch the first 2 eps

This review is based on 2 eps, of course I’ll update it if I keep watching, if I can find the power to actually keep going!

Is this a wuxia drama? No, not really. If you think the FL’s hand blocking 5-7 moves slowly (so slowly, so disjointedly that it looks more like acting than fighting!) qualify this as the greatest wuxia drama of the year, then you really need to go watch the 90s wuxia lol. In ep1, FL fights a bunch of bad guys, who is trying to kill this 1 dude, but all she did was knocked them unconscious (maybe, you see them unconscious but the number ain’t seem to come down really), or knock them away somewhere, so they proceed to kill the dude she tries to protect. So you wonder what’s the point? Or are you retarded? Like if your enemy is trying to kill, being soft just getting yourself killed? But whatever, let’s move on to ep2, where ML gets to show off his awesome kungfu skill, which show him fly up in the air, swing out his hands, and his enemies drop like flies. Again, I wouldn’t call this wuxia, I call this fantasy style fighting, where ppl just magically get defeated! All fight scenes end in like 1-3moves aren’t count as fight scenes, guys. If you claim yourself a wuxia drama, at least show us a decent fight scene.

Then we need to talk about the defying physics of the FL, she who stood on top of the bamboo tree (or some super tall tree, at least 3m, I’m being generous here, more like 5m, but let’s say 3m), talking to lowbies on the ground. Not only we see the trees sway like crazy, she stands perfectly still! Amazing kungfu! She’s not on the tree, she’s actually hovering up in the air! We also see how she can converse normally with those lowbies, who are at least 3m below her, without looking at them, or raising her voice, they can still converse normally like they are next to each other. Amazing kungfu those lowbies have! Pity they used their kungfu in the wrong area (strengthen their hearing instead of their fighting skills >_>). Or my ears just got that bad from wearing headphones! That I’m having trouble hearing ppls about 2m away if I’m in a forest with so much winds and leaves rubbing against each other sound, and I’m facing away from them!

Do the characters follow the book? I don’t care, and I doubt the leads’ fandoms care lawl. Do their costumes look bad, and not suitable for the S+ title the drama was supposed to have due to the amount of money invested in it? No, because they supposed to be jianghu ppl, they meant to dress simple. So I’m actually fine with their costumes. Do they have chemistry? To me, no. I’m baffling with the way they interact with each other. They were supposed to know each other for a very long time. FL seems to look down/dislike ML because he’s scheming and she doesn’t necessarily trust him. Yet next moment, if she gets the chance, she tries to play cutesie with him 0.o and those cutesie moments are forced, and not natural. Not only that, for someone who know each other a long time, I’m expecting funny banter now and then, instead I got nothing but bland, long winded dialogue that make me don’t want to read the subtitles. Or at least it questions whether I would like this series more if I don’t have to spend effort in reading and trying to understand where it’s going. If I know Chinese, I could have it on the background, and therefore enjoy it more?

TLDR: if you are a fan of either of these two, you MIGHT like it. If you are not, you won’t lol! And if you do, good on you! Nothing to drive home about this drama, at least based on the first 2 eps.

PS: spare me the whole you must give it 10eps, before it gets good! Some other series is either half way through by ep10 or near finish by then lol!

Finally!!!!

This is the kind of drama that I have been finally waiting for!!!

Finally there is a heroine in these kinds of dramas that do not need the ML to always rescue her; she is capable of pulling her own weight and getting rid of the many obstacles she faces with swift and outstanding fighting skills that I have not been able to see in many other historical and martial arts dramas before

Likes so far

1) Yang Yang the ML is always a favorite in historical dramas; he wearing a costume like this is always nice to see and brings out his handsome features of an actor

2) Rosy Zhao Zhao Lusi is always been shown as a cute, weak and cutesy character in her many other dramas like "The Romance of Tiger and Rose", and she has never been given a role that shows off her diverse character; this drama has definitely shown that this actress not only can pull off being cute and weak, she can show her mature side and able to defend herself in the most outstanding way and it grabs my attention from the drama.

3) It is nice to see other familiar actors like Lulu Xuan from the drama "The Untamed" as she portrays another different kind of character her from the weak character that she portrayed before.

4) The small boy that they rescued together; even though the two main leads are still trying so "hard"to hid their affection for each other; the small boy shows them like a family and the funny moments that they have together especially between Bai Feng Xi and the small boy.

5) I love the black and white concept; Bai Feng Xi and Hei Feng Xi. The chemistry between the actors onstage and offstage are shown throughout the drama; and they are supposed to be "rivals" but I guess they are not really shown as rivals but that is up to how the audience would see them.

Dislikes

1) The power struggle for the throne between the three brothers are not as good as I would have liked to see

So far this drama has started off strong and there is still a lot that has yet to be revealed so I am excited for the remaining episodes; although the latest episodes are still quite far away.

A drama that is definitely a must watch in 2022

The combination of roles is very enjoyable to watch.. The ML is very handsome and also the FL is beautiful, the supporting actors are also beautiful and handsome
Pampering as well as very refreshing for the eyes of the audience

The story is unique and not easy to guess,
There are many scenes which I think are very interesting, one of them is when there is a war scene.

It's just that it's a shame that the ending of the story doesn't quite fit... I'm a little unhappy with the ending.
Overall, this story is worth watching again
