Oh God…no

Like most reviewers have already said, this was cute and fluffy and fun up until the last few episodes. I rarely just binge watch episode after episode but I did this one. I really liked it. Then it took a devastating turn.

Let me say the thing I HATE the most in dramas is the breakup because “I don’t like you anymore” (when they really do) just to protect the other person. That is the most hurtful thing you can do. Plus, you don’t know how the other person will react if you tell the truth.

But then, on top of that, to be told he was DEAD when he wasn’t. Then for him to return in 5 years? That was plenty of time for her to move on. After that, we had like 5 minutes of them together and it wasn’t satisfying at all. They just sat on the hill talking like nothing had happened. I almost wished he had stayed dead instead of an ending like this. At least, then, it would have been a beautiful, heartbreaking love story.

Who knew a fun, romantic comedy would have such a completely unnecessary and devastating ending.

The last few episodes left me annoyed

So I will agree with most of the reviews. Great potential but WTF with the last two+ episodes. There was a lot of potential to deepen the stories of practically any character without have to do a "well we have a two more episodes to do- which should just throw random things at it to keep people watching." So disappointed. And yes if someone disappears for 5 years and said psyche "I'm not dead" that is way too messed up for words. Being in a real relationship is about being together for better or worse.

It was good until the last few episodes.

I honestly enjoyed watching this show. I loved every minute I spent on it.

However, the story went downhill by episodes 13-16. It was as if the writers changed or didn't know what to do with the plot. I was fine with a sad ending with how they ended it with LJW's character, until they brought him back after five years just for the sake of having a "happy ending", which ruined the finale for me.

Overall, the show was good and the cast definitely did great in portraying their characters.

You will be Happy, then sad to just upset at the end

this is the first drama where i actually research who was the screenwriter because they should be ashamed of that ending. Such a great story and then Bam….. ridiculous rush ending. How do you mess up such a great story; You have amazing actors! You want to be happy because it is an happy ending but no……just no. I understand there was an age gap but 5 years? 😭😭😭😭. How many people was in that directing team?Did they read the plot? Juno getting sick and going for treatment in the US could be believable; He was a bit scrawny and had some nosebleeds but cancer? It is still ok, just needed more time to work out but the rest is just a no.

That ending...

I genuinely don't know what to say. It was going so well and then... I just can't accept the fact that the writers decided that THAT was a good ending.

I have a theory tho. Jun's mother never specifically said that Jun was dead BUT she didn't deny it either, and that's what pisses me the most. I think Jun was unaware of what his mother was doing and he then knew the truth years later... but it just... if that's what really happened, I can't believe his mother was, at the end, the cruelest of them all.
And if that's not the case, and he planned all of this with his mother, I... If he did that, I'd be more pissed with the writers cause that's something that Jun's character would NEVER do, NEVER. It's not coherent with his character at all.

I can't think of other explanations, but I'm so mad that the writers ruined such a good drama with that shitty ending. Yes, I'm happy he's alive but the whole reason his death was hidden from Rara, I just don't understand it.

Okay, but besides that rant hahaha It's my first time seeing Jae wook's acting and I'm surprised. He's such a good actor at such a young age, I fell in love with him the moment he appeared on screen. I'd like to watch more of his dramas in the future.

It was cute!

Listen, I honestly enjoyed this drama a lot. The characters were cute and sometimes all over the place. The chemistry was amazing. The music was fantastic. The plot was a little predictable though, and the ending was okay. I kind of wish it hadn't gone the way it did but there's really nothing we can do about that lol The main leads were so cute though, especially the least actress. It was refreshing seeing a cute, bubbly "rich" girl with good morals. Honestly, I know this may not be fore everyone, but it's just my style. It's not too over the top but it's also not too slow paced. It's just right imo.

"The fact is, they lost what could turn out to be one of the best kdramas of 2020."

The catchphrase I'm going to put on to sum up this drama will be that one.
-
At first, I had the prospect that I was watching a 'My secrect romance' 2, but it was only until the fifth episode that everything changed.

To be aware, I managed to drop in a drama that I was enjoying and that from one moment to another, there were scrambled in the script that did not conquer me anymore. It seems like everything was going well, until... from episode 6 to 16 was just downhill. I literally don't know what really happened!

Or, as I said at the time I watched:
"In the first few episodes, I thought the drama would follow the hype of "my secrect romance" - kdrama 2017, but over
time I realized that it would be inappropriate* to make such an analogy...
After two droppes, I was able to watch and finish! I'm not going to say it was very good, good, or even great, but I sure wouldn't want to watch it if there was that possibility. What was that ending? Does anyone know how to define in a word this ending?!"

This is just ugh

Honestly I really loved the drama in the beginning it was cute and everything with jun pretending to be cold yet being completely smitten but like the last 2 episodes. They're the worse.
Honestly I would've been less annoyed if it was a sad ending because the ending made absolutely no sense to me.
It started off great, the past and everything falling in place slowly but not the last 2 episodes man.

I suggest if you do decide to watch it stop at episode 12/13.
Stop while it's good.

If you don't want to be spoiled please go on ?

Let me say one thing... I loved all the episodes up until the last minutes of the last episode. I was expecting the plot to be something other than that, I was super sad about Jun but then the writers took my emotions and threw them into a rollercoaster so in one minute I was extremely happy he was okay but the next I was furious.
I really loved Ra Ra's and Jun's chemistry and of course Ha Young and Seung Gi were my faves laughed with all my heart with their arguments and love ❤️
If i were to watch this drama again I would skip the ending so that I would be less frustrated

Ridiculous ending spoiled it

I absolutely loved this drama, up to the point where Joon left Ra Ra. Things then proceeded to get ridiculously out of hand. What on earth were the writers thinking?!
The bulk of this strangely inviting drama's episodes, were quirky, amusing, wonderfully cheesy and entertaining. The kind of silly-in-a-good-way drama that many of us crave at times.
I'm not a huge fan of Go Ara's work; not because she isn't a good actress, but because many of her roles put her in either frumpy, gaumless, or just plain irritating characters.
For me, this was one of her best roles, besides Ms Hammurabi, which I LOVED! (although she seemed to live in her coat in it).
Totally cosseted by her father and piano teacher, it's like she grew up in a bubble. When that bubble is burst, we are left with a character that has a child-like innocence and outlook ~ though by no means stupid, she is naive, coupled with amazing determination and an incredibly optimistic outlook. Although she is more ga-ga than Ra-Ra, I found her very likeable through her outlook and how she said what she thought, without filtering it.
Supporting characters were mixed ~ wealthy, controlling parents; an idyllic community with gossipy, good hearted middle-aged women; childhood love/hate friends; a villain; inept though menacing private investigators; suave doctor; slow police; and a sweetie of a grandpa figure.
There was lots of comedy, some very touching scenes, romance, lots of cheesy bike rides, piggy backs etc. and a mysterious element of threat for good measure.
It was also a welcome change to have a younger male, older female couple that weren't unnatural. Lee Jae Wook and Go Ara worked well together.
However, the last few episodes descended into the worst kind of melodramatic chaos, which left me feeling so disappointed in the script writing and, to a certain extent, the direction.
First there's the very nasty breakup... why? Then that's simply brushed to one side as Jun apologises via his excuse for it, of leaving the country to 'study'!
We soon find out why, whilst Ra-Ra is kept in the dark. Yet she seems to forgive him, as he leaves, even though she's told his going abroad to 'study' may lead to him settling there. What?!
Eventually, he's due back, only for Ra-Ra to be told he's passed away. Very moving and sad.
The writers should have had him cured instead, or left it at that, but no....
A whopping 5 YEARS later, he turns up fully cured, out of the blue.
What woman, after having her heart broken twice already (3 times if his departure is included), could forgive that?! Yet she welcomes him and comically punches him multiple times on the arms for deceiving her.
I'd have punched his lights out. Yes, I'd be so happy he was alive, but that would quickly be replaced by sheer anger at being allowed to suffer in grief. What if she'd married someone else?
There was also the bizarre giving of couples rings ~ Jun gifted matching rings, which for all intense and purposes were made to look like couples or wedding rings. Then Ra-Ra buys wedding rings with the intention of proposing to him, but that never happens. Bizarre.
Jun's overbearing father simply disappears from the entire story and his mother has a change of heart.
I am SO disappointed in this terribly lazy, badly written conclusion. What could have been a witty, charming rom-com, got mashed up with a dreadful melodramatic climax that ruined it.
I still think that apart from the latter episodes, it's an otherwise enjoyable watch, hence my rating not being 2/10.
However the end of it was its ruin. The writers should be fined and made to apologise for treating the viewing public like idiots!!!

Light and Fun but Suddenly WTF

I don't like the categories for rating on here. My 4 categories are Acting/Cast, Writing, Direction/SFX/Music, Entertainment Value.

If I were to rate the 1st half of this drama and the 2nd half separately, the ratings would be very different. Let's just go through the categories and I'll explain:

Acting/Cast: Easily the best thing about this drama. In the beginning, I was iffy about some of the characters. However, well before the end of the drama, I liked every character and enjoyed all of their roles. 1st half=6/10 ; 2nd half 10/10

Writing: This category can be broken into 2 parts - character writing/dialogue and story writing. Throughout the drama, the character writing was well done. Everyone had very distinct personalities that felt real. I easily became attached to multiple characters. That being said, I felt the male lead was the weakest in this department, especially in the 2nd half. His character felt like he had the least development. I knew the other characters so well, but the male lead remained fairly mysterious. Although, I also realize this was intentional, but I still didn't like it. Now for story writing...great in the 1st half. I loved the light and fun vibe of the 1st half. It was very charming. My only gripe was the writer's overuse of red herrings to the point of slight annoyance. I also thought the cliche stalker plot point didn't fit in well with the feel of the drama. It was also quickly glazed over like it never even happened, which made it feel even more out-of-place. In the 2nd half, the overuse of red herrings became obnoxiously ridiculous and those cliche out-of-place plot points were, unfortunately, here to stay. How can I put this simply? The story became confusing, unrealistic, and I haven't been so pissed of about an ending since Black. The ending ruined the entire drama for me, just like what happened with Black (which, oddly enough, stars the same female lead). It's as though the writers didn't know how to end the drama and they were fighting with each other and changing their minds every episode. But, what makes it worse, the writers were foreshadowing the ending from much earlier in the drama. It makes me believe that this mess was completely intentional and I'm shocked. And what's even worse, I feel betrayed, emotionally manipulated, violated even -- similar to how the characters in the drama SHOULD have felt about the whole situation. 1st half=9/10 ; 2nd half=1/10

Direction/SFX/Music: Almost no complaints here. However, I am reminded of that one scene...the piano on the beach. I was so confused. Very out-of-place scene. Was it a dream, was it a fantasy? I hope so. Regarding the music/OST part, the OST is nothing special; not my cup of tea; it neither caught my attention nor annoyed me. However, the piano music was great. 8/10

Entertainment Value: I got through this drama fairly quick because it was fun and had likeable characters. In the 2nd half when crazy random things were happening, I'm not going to lie, I was entertained and the cliff hangers got me through the drama even faster in the 2nd half. I was extremely curious about how the writers were going to play out this ending. I was hoping the male lead's mom would get some kind of redemption arc. I was hoping everything would come together and make sense. It seemed like it was heading that was until suddenly -- the writers forgot how to write and my hopes were shattered. 1st half=4/10 ; 2nd half=6/10

Overall, this drama would get an unweighted score of 6.5/10, technically speaking. But since the ending was drama-ruining, my weighted score would be 3.5/10.

This is what I get for starting a kdrama without reading the reviews.

First of all, the plot got so thick at some point I was wondering when it was gonna run out of "plot twists" it got really repetitive I don't think I've ever watched a kdrama with this many plot this but it did nothing interesting to the plot cause it made it seem like it all came back to her being impressionable and naive and she was that the whole show didn't matter how many characters came to tell her "You've grown so much".

And the lies of the main male character got really unacceptable towards the end of the show, first I got it, he lied to her about his whole life AND AGE (kinda weird) cause his family sucked and he was running away, okay got it, then about them breaking up cause he asked her mother for a ton of money and even went and paid this dude take fake pictures of him with this other small twist of a character that lasted like 2 episodes and left, questionable but okay I guess, then about the reason he was going o "study" abroad for but actually forget the break up I'm gonna keep leading you on but still hiding this BIG illness I have, what the fuck, and finally his mom coming to town insinuating he was dead and giving her and other letters of "goodbye"ish messages and everyone just grieving and being sad for him to come back years later cause he wanted her to see him "healthy" again ohmyfucking god no, this is not the character development I wanted, so she, till the last episode was impressionable and naive and stayed with a man that lied their whole relationship and hid so many important stuff about him, should've stayed with the doctor tbh, I'm so mad.

My lesson: I shall never start a kdrama without reading the reviews, forgive me mydramalist reviews I have failed you.
