Waste of time

Story is slow. Not recommended to watch. Very dissapointing Drama from Bailu & Dylan. People will only watch it because of the hype of popular lead actors.

Boring drama. You need to pay just to watch the wedding scene of Dylan & Bailu. A very dissapointing drama.

Screenwriters totally messed this one up.

This is not a classic cold-CEO and bubbly-reporter story. It's a revenge-plot gone wrong. And the people who messed this up were the screenwriters.

Some reviews say that the actors (Dylan Wang or Bai Lu) get the chemistry wrong. That's because they assume it's a cold-CEO and bubbly-reporter. If instead you realize that she's trying to get revenge on the ex-boyfriend, suddenly the chemistry is about right (especially from Bai Lu).

We do get an early notification of the revenge-plot in episode 1... about 10 seconds long at most. Then about 20 episodes before it finally gets to exploding in her face. ML a nice guy, who acts cold to the FL because he knows she has ulterior motives. He fell for her a long time ago, and is trying to figure out why she's approaching him. So he's nice-guy-acting-cold, and she's not-interested-acting-interested.

It's the screenwriters who made a mess here. The audience literally has NO IDEA that he's deliberately faking being cold and uninterested, and is (a) trying to figure out why she's approaching him (he assumes it's money, but that doesn't make sense to him), and (b) trying to hide that he's interested.

Other points:

* The amount of self-conversation / thinking aloud is ridiculous. It's boring for the audience, and *worse* we don't even hear what matters -- i.e. him trying to figure it all out, and her plotting the scheme. There's a remarkable amount of dead-space that drives the audience to some serious boredom.

* The costume designers went way overboard on the currently-popular oversize clothing. Dylan Wang in an oversize suit looks like he's wearing his older brother's hand-me-down outfit. We simply can not take him seriously. He looks young to start with, but in that oversize suit, looks like he's 12. In Rationale Life, he looks like an Adult when he wears a suit.

Actually terrible

I know this show is not meant to be deep, intellectual, or groundbreaking. However, even as just romantic fluff it does a really poor job.

What's wrong:
1. Female characters with few redeeming qualities. I really hate how the writing was slanted to give mostly the women the negative traits. FL falls into a web of lies and stupid misunderstandings all while being a terrible girlfriend who has a low EQ. SFL basically only has obsession and stalking going for her for more than half the drama. 3FL...the worst probably. Her strength was the stink eye and non-communication and giving bad advice to her friend. Annoying co-worker who sabotages and steals FL's work - it is astonishing that they kept her around that long.
2. Boring company drama. The least compelling part of this show was the business aspect. Bunch of dudes in suits yammering about investments. People you don't care about - why should I care about this emo Le An guy?? Couple of old dudes complaining about ML's leadership.

I'm one of those people that usually finishes what I start, so I stuck it through to watch all 36 episodes and to watch Dylan eat Bai Lu's face. I actually enjoyed maybe the first third, but somewhere after the halfway mark I started to view this show as literal trash. This is the kind of the show that you literally throw your hands up in the air and ask, "WHY?"

There was just so much stupidity and mundaneness sprinkled throughout this show. Let's give the FL bad cramps from her period during some big shot conference JUST BECAUSE. ??? Really now. Let's have the FL show up to another company as a respected professional WHILE LOOKING LIKE SHE HAS NO PANTS ON. Let's have FL fail to convince her mother she has a boyfriend when she actually does and still go out on an arranged date with a mutual friend and then lie to her boyfriend about it. Let's have the 3FL just storm off and give some stank attitude when 3ML tries to open up, and also have 3ML think she's about to marry her cousin. Let's introduce a dark horse second love interest out of nowhere around 2/3 of the way through the show and then have him climb up a tree.

This show is definitely in the bottom tier of dramas I have watched. I think if they cut this show in half and all the unnecessary crap, it would've been much better. There were some fun moments, but I don't think it's worth it on the whole. I would not recommend watching unless you have nothing better to do or if you really really need to see Bai Lu and Dylan together.

This is a joke

I keep on thinking to myself this drama might get better but no, it keeps getting worst and worst. Is this a joke? It’s like suddenly Bailu and Dylan are noobs and this is their first drama. Dylan looks like a little boy looking hard and Bailu tries to act cute but it’s just cringy. She can’t be playing these roles anymore. What a mess. The story is a mess, there is no chemistry, the FL has no common sense, her best friend makes no sense and at this point the FL and ML should just forget about each other. Oh, and show keep reminding us how she’s focused on her career but I’ve never seen someone as unprofessional as her.

Good products don't always make good meals

I liked :
He Di Wang is gorgeous in this series! What an actor!
The supporting actors are very good
The sets, costumes and locations are very nice.
Episode 31 to 36 are awesome
A great happy ending (see the 36th special on youtube)

I didn't like :
This series is definitely too long! 16-20 episodes would have been enough. It's incredibly slow. I skipped from episode 17 to the start of episode 31 and missed almost nothing.
The main female character is unbearable, poor Bai Lu forced to play a role like this.

Cellphones Do Not Have Silence Options in the Only for Love World

Okay…

I started this despite not being a fan of modern/contemporary Chinese romance dramas because these usually feature nonsensically convoluted plots and too many misunderstandings. However, I like both main leads and wanted to watch something with Dylan since I will not be watching his other dramas from this year. I thought that having other cast members, like Bai Lu, Wei Zheng Ming, and Lui Dong Qin, all of whom I also liked even if I didn’t fully enjoy the shows they were in, would make it more bearable. It did not. I never expected a masterpiece, but had hoped for a decent story with relatable characters or at least characters who would allow me to live vicariously through them. This, also, did not happen.

The premise of the show was all based on a misunderstanding which dragged on for too long. On top of this, there were other couples whose dynamics were fun at first, but later entered the realm of toxic and stalkerish. As if having already three dysfunctional couples wasn’t enough, at around the 20th episode yet another couple was added.

Another part that bothered me was the romance between the main leads. I usually like slow burn romances, it gets me excited for when the fire finally consumes them and they cannot “fight that feeling anymore”, but for the love of all sacred monkeys, this wasn’t even a slowburn, it was almost no burn and the damned cell phone ringing was the main character, as one of the watchers so aptly commented. Someone wanted to clarify something, the phone rang. Someone wanted to confess, the damned phone rang again. Someone was about to kiss, you guessed it, the phone rang. It’s as if they didn’t know phones have silence options.

On top of this, some scenes that looked like they were finally going to get things rolling ended too abruptly. For the first kiss scene, I blinked and almost missed the kiss. There were too many filler-like scenes which featured their workplaces, business dealings, conferences, introduction of new antagonists, and talking about things I had no desire to listen to, or more specifically read about since I read the subs, especially in Shi Yan’s case. So I fast-forwarded these scenes or, in later episodes, just watched the drama as background noise. This leads me to another issue, this is a romcom. This drama is 36 episodes and personally, I believe romcoms should not be this long. This drama would have probably been a lot more tolerable to watch than it was if they had focused on less, because sometimes less is more. The addition of all those unnecessary subplots made it draggy and boring.

I don’t remember the OST and I do not plan on rewatching or recommending this to anyone. I added .5 because despite the drama being terrible, I still like Dylan Wang , Miles Wei, Lui Dong Qin, and Bai Lu.

Constant lack of communication

The premise of this sounded really interesting and I got through all of it. But there were some things that were pretty confusing and not good.

Main issues for me:
- Constant lack of communication mainly on the FL side. Some is to be expected, it’s a drama but she made bad decisions one after the other to the point I questioned if she was 12 years old.
- this could’ve been 16 episodes without losing much. There were too many repetitions, boring business conversations and dramas no one cares about.
- the damn phones always interrupting everything. Could have been a paid actor by the way they were constantly interrupting almost every relevant scene and development and it seems no caracter ever heard of silent mode or simply not picking up the phone.
- the SFL. This character is just completely atrocious. Always giving bad love advice when she has a terrible love life herself and when it all goes wrong “well, nothing we can do now, it’s the way it is, focus on a different guy”. No redeeming qualities. No growth.
- The Second Love Interest. Where did this sudden love interest even come from?? Why was he so fixated on her? Why climb a tree?
- Continuity issues. At the start she doesn’t know what he looks like because there’s no photos online and he is so illusive there’s only a picture of half his face, in the middle suddenly everyone knows what he looks like, even her mom because he’s so famous?? Also in his house she sees he likes The singer and has her albums, then later is talking to him like she never hears he likes her??

Highly recommended
Great chemistry
Because of this drama I'm loving Dylan Wang already. His role suits him well (serious but charismatic CEO)?
And of course my baby Lulu. She's the only Chinese actress I am obsessed with. I already watched almost all her drama, reality show, guesting ,BTS and more. Her role here shows women empowerment (independent, strong, career oriented likewise cute, loving, caring woman)?
All the cast are also likable. It does not only revolve on the main cast but also the supporting because they also Have their own story.

Would I recommend this drama?

If you want to watch a realistic drama, move over, this is not for you . If you want to watch fluffy make your heart smile drama (and generate laughters), then yes I will recommend you to watch this.

The pull and push in the ML and FL relationship is just so awkward and draggy. But don't worry, this drama gets better and better.

I read some parts the novel as I finished watching ep 20 to see which one is worse, the drama or the novel. The answer is, the novel by heaps! Why? Because the novel has no Bai Lu and Dylan. At first I thought this was an adaptation of an anime, so I was surprised to find out it's a novel. The novel is so badly written, so cringy.

I would certainly have dropped this drama after just 1 or 2 episodes if not because I love Bai Lu and how good looking Dylan is as the CEO. In fact, I wouldn't even touch this drama if not because of Bai Lu and Dylan.

The couple with the best storyline is actually ML's niece with the professor. The niece is the youngest amongst the 3 female leads, yet she's the only mature one (with FL's best friend being the worst of all).

The business side of the story is actually not too bad.

CONS:
1. FL continuedly lied to ML all the way (well so far anyway, I'm at ep 20 now).
2. The second leads (Shan Shan and Mr Gu Jnr)... What the heck?!? Fast forward all the way.

PRO:
Bashing this drama aside, I do enjoy watching Bai Lu and Dylan - and the 2ML, and 3ML. This drama is definitely swoon worthy and full of eye candy. I smiled and giggled a lot watching this. I would even rewatch just to watch the ML and FL chemistry. So according to my enjoyment level, I'm giving this a 9 (the novel I would give a 4.5!)

Waste of Time & Potential!

I did it. I finally watched every single episode without skipping. I was miserable, but I did it because I really love Bai Lu & Dylan Wang. I wanted to give them my full attention until the very end.

This drama had so much wasted potential. I even took down some notes on my phone while I watched. How could a drama with such an amazing cast be so terrible! Okay it's time to let it all out.

Negatives:
- Unnecessarily long staring/pondering scenes. LIKE SUPER unnecessarily long.
- Yi Yang was a useless character. He added nothing to this show. Pure annoyance. This guy couldn't and wouldn't take no for a damn answer.
- Lack of communication within all of the characters. Everyone pretty much knew each other but didn't know that they all knew each other mutually. Does that make sense? Like with Guan Ji and ShanShan... why didn't ShanShan tell her best friend ShuYi that she knew who he was? And even towards the end when GJ and SS got together, she didn't even tell ShuYi until she found out for herself. I actually liked this couple in the beginning, but boy oh boy were they so damn annoying later on!
- Speaking of ShanShan - she gave the WORST relationship advice to ShuYi. And it doesn't help that ShuYi is so dumb. They're basically dumb and dumber, except dumber is giving dumb advice. HAHA.
- Nobody is straightforward with their feelings except the niece, ShiYue.
- So much hesitation with talking & texting. I can't tell you how many times they typed out a decent message but decided to delete it and not send it.
- Many many missed opportunities to clear up misunderstandings. MANY!!!!
- ShuYi's Mom meeting ShiYan was SOOOOO disappointing. We didn't get to see her true reaction to him really being ShuYi's boyfriend. That scene was so boring and the Mom just left right after? What the heck was that all about?! They could have made it so much better. I wanted to see her surprised, but instead she just looked bored and annoyed the whole entire time she was at the house.
- The wedding scene with Tang Yi and her hubby was so awkward. They didn't even kiss... they just hugged it out?! LOL.
- Ending was disappointing and felt empty.

Okay that's enough negatives, now onto the positives:

- I really enjoyed ShiYue's character. She seemed to be the only one giving decent advice, had her head screwed on, spoke her mind most of the time, straightforward about her feelings, great friend and so fun!! Loved her character.
- Great kiss scenes between ShuYi and ShiYan.
- Aesthetically pleasing actors & actresses.

Overall, this was not worth the watch. 36 episodes was way too long. This definitely could have been 20 episodes or less. What a frustrating drama with wasted potential. Disappointing!

Red Flag

Reposting because my review got deleted to manipulate the score

I watched Dylan Wang's and Bai Lu's previous work and I love them however this show didn't sit with me at all:

First few episodes were amazing. Shu Yi, a beautiful woman aware of her charms, good at her job,
bold and confident, she was a perfect female lead in a pile of female leads where a woman is represented as an insecure average woman, unaware of her good looks and why men like her. Loved her being straightforward and flirty putting the cold male character in a position of being adorably flustered by her charms.

Shi Yan, a beautiful and cold man whose charms come from his love towards his work. He is determined, ambitious and charming. Despite being distant and nonchalant with most things, he makes sure that around the woman he likes, he is ready to be the one to take the first step without shame. Especially if he is jealous.

However, after the 10th episode the story starts going south in many different ways. It is unclear whether Shu Yi immediately falls for Shi Yan's charms or if she is only doing that to assure her interview with him which doesn't fit her character. She is someone who's familiar to everyone she writes about. We are constantly told how amazing she s at her job which doesn't explain us why she has to seduce him in order to do her job properly since that did not help with anything.

She continues to send him flirty texts but the moment he takes the matters in his own hands, she pulls back despite her being the one to initiate it. The amount of times the character avoids and rejects the male lead's advances and kisses starts becoming annoying where the excitement before every kiss is followed by disappointment where it doesn't create the effect of suspense anymore.

Only in ep 20 do we find out her feelings about him which is extremely late. The story makes us think that Shi Yan's cold attitude was an issue but instead, it was always the female lead's insecurity of her feelings that was the issue. The fl is also put in a situation where she goes out on blind dates with another man due to her mother's nagging ignoring the fact that she already has someone she can introduce?

The show keeps repeating the same scenes. We see more finance related things and their work instead of romance. Numerous conferences which keep repeating whenever there's nothing else in the show.

The characters don't have a proper bonding time and everything they learn about each other is through a conversation of other people and eavesdropping. Most of the conversations happen over the phone not allowing them to have a single honest moment with each other to learn about each other which makes the relationship hard to believe in.

The couple keeps going back and forth until a certain amount episodes where the scriptwriter decides to suddenly throw all deep kisses at once which should've happened gradually in much earlier episodes.

Shi Yan's character is not supported by anything other than his looks and little lore we get from him acquaintances making us yearn to see more of him.

However, the actors did a good job at acting but the execution of the story was extremely poorly done for my taste. It is probably the fault of scriptwriter and not the actors themselves.

Lastly that the only well done execution of the character was Shi Yue, who, from a spoiled rich girl learns her obligations towards her work, her boss and also towards the one she likes.

How not to extend 20 episodes of content into 36 episodes

Started strong, finished okay, middle was a dumpster fire. They didn’t have enough content, so their solution was a) make everyone emotionally stunted, b) make sure no one communicates with each other. Ever. And c)have the FL lead three guys on. She says she loves the ML, then proceeds to date two other guys.

Keep in mind these are 30 something year old people who have all had previous relationships.

Anyway. Waste of a good cast. If you watch the first 15 and last 6 episodes it’s actually good. And honestly you’ll miss nothing but frustration at the terrible writting skipping the middle.
