Wow.

Wow.

If MDL allowed only one-word reviews, then wow would be the only thing I'd have to say.

I pretty much skimmed through this epic crisis of a series. What was promised to be this very raunchy, BDSM, mafia series quickly turned into a mafia and cut to the morning after series. I only kept watching for Baiboon and Kom cause I liked their dynamic, but their development just suddenly stops, so we don't ever get a proper ending with the two of them.

Ratings:

Story: 4/10 - I really just skimmed through this series, so I won't even begin to say I understood what was happening. Some mafia stuff? It's crazy that this all starts though because of a one-night stand.

Acting: 6.5/10 - most of the cast was mediocre. With as many series as Yoon has been in, you'd think he'd have improved by now, but no. No one's acting was good, everyone stayed on the same plain as just being ok enough for me to get through the series.

Music: 5/10 didn't pay attention to it which means it wasn't distracting.

Recommendation value: 1/10 - I don't have the strongest say in whether or not to watch this just because I really didn't 100% pay much attention to it, but from what I can remember, it's not worth it. Watch for some comedic relief, but do yourself a favor and watch any other series besides this one.

Love a cold man gets his guy story... than this is for you.

I loved this and hate that it is over. I loved Yoon in this role and Ton as well. I want to see them in something else together. Love a cold man losing his shit over the normal guy and pursuing him and I love how Komol did it here. He was very single minded, determined, straightforward, and honest in his desire for Kim and what he wanted. Swoon worthy.

I would love a Khom and Baiboon follow up story. I loved the very real family unit they all became. I loved Kim's dad being a dad for his son and asking the right questions to his son's would be suitor and being accepting as well as realistic. I think that was especially good for Kamol as well.

Basically I really just loved it and do not think it deserves all the hate it has gotten. I said it before and will repeat, I do think the sex scene in episode one was unfortunate but it in no way ruined the entire drama in anyway. If you're hesitant, give it a try and see for yourself.

It's not the greatest but not the worst

First of all, I have read the novel and I can pretty much say that the series is almost following the novel. Almost because there is no Cherry arc in the novel.

Anyway, I was actually anticipating for this series since it was announced because it's following KinnPorsche. And because of the very fact that it's following KP that it didn't become a success. I personally think that if this was aired years ago or just before KP, people would probably like it or at least tolerate it. But since KP aired first and people watched the behind-the-scenes of every eps, the really great acting of the casts even though most of them are also rookies in the acting industry, it resulted to the comparison of the two dramas since both have similar theme: mafia love.

It also doesn't live up to the mature theme it was supposed to be showing. It's 2022 and BL fans are tired of timid kissing and awkward touching. BL fans are tired of University stories. The BDSM theme of UN intrigued the mass since it's probably the first one in Thai BL history. But I understand that it's still a long process to actually show proper BDSM practices and acts.

Let's go to the acting, esp the main actors. Yoon and Ton, which I am still confused who is who. So let's stick with Kamol and Kim. Contrary to the other reviews here, I prefer Kamol's acting than Kim's and I don't know why. I can't help but cringe sometimes when Kim's on the screen, which he is 90% of the time. The side characters, however, act more naturally and likeable, esp. Cherry and Danai. The casting of this drama wasn't great, esp for KK couple. Kamol or Yoon is so soft looking and as they all say, has a baby face. You really can't imagine that kind of face to be a badass mafia. I also find it quite funny that Kim's body is buffer than Kamol's. I think they should've worked out to fit their characters physically.

After I finished watching ep 1, I accepted that this series will not be the one I was expecting. Let's get this straight. It's not really great. However, I am compelled in watching this. It's fun since Kamol's character is loveable. He's pretty much whipped and devoted to Kim just like in the novel. Kim's got an attitude in the novel which I found irritating but fortunately, in the series, I didn't find him irritating. He's sassy and stubborn.

To end this, this drama is like an oasis in a desert. It's not big and probably contaminated but it quenches the thirst of good BL drought. I also find this rewatchable because it's really not heavy at all. Usually, great BLs have heavy plot and it's quite difficult to rewatch them. For example, ITSAY. Great drama but I find it hard to rewatch since it's serious and heavy.

Reddit saved this for me.

Apart from the terrible casting, a budget of discount travel hotel vouchers, a music score from a 50's vampire movie and many many other tragic flaws. This series does have some redemption..... REDDIT

1. Shoes on the bed
2. Water waste
3. Falling so hard on your ass, a scratch appears on your knee.
4. Giant earrings on a very beautiful cast member
5. Pirouette to sit on knee
6. Product placement
7. Mutant chin hairs
8. Worst bodyguards in the history of body guarding.

.....Basically too many to mention them all.
This has spawned Unforgotten night Bingo and many a drinking game for those of us determined to reach the end of this series.
Good luck!!

So bad that it was good

The premise of the series is interesting. Do I think the execution was great? No, it lacked in many aspects… but there was still something about it that made me enjoy it. Strange, I know.

Kamol & Kim: Let’s be honest, Kamol is a bit of a disappointment for a criminal. But I can forgive him for that. The idea that he can’t find a partner is a bit far-fetched, but it’s a way to start the story. Kim is heartbroken and wants a rebound, which he finds in his one night with Kamol. Only Kamol is not really ready to give him up. To be honest, their first NC scene was a disaster, from start to finish. It’s like the writers and directors went into this with zero knowledge about BDSM. They just went with whatever popped into their head. Kamol was a bit forceful when it comes to Kim moving in with him, but at the same time, he was completely wrapped around Kim’s little finger. I found that kind of adorable. Kim really did whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted and however he wanted it. And poor Kamol just had to deal with the aftermath. I really like how Kim never hesitated in going against Kamol. It really showed how secure and safe he felt with him, he knew Kamol wouldn’t hurt him. There was some fear at first, but it didn’t really last for long. I love the chemistry the two actors have off screen, sadly I don’t think they were given the chance to really show it on screen as well. If anything, they mostly appeared very awkward with each other.

I did like the side couples as well. Day and Itt were adorable together (I did change my mind about them after watching Love Syndrome III). The bodyguards were an unexpected surprise that I did not mind. The possibility of a relationship between Khom and Baiboon was only hinted at, I believe that was done due to their age gap and the fact Baiboon is still quite young. The series doesn’t state his age, but I am guessing he is in his late teens. Which is a bit concerning, to be honest.

The number of ex-lovers that tried to meddle with the relationship between Kamol and Kim is ridiculous. It was a bit annoying how that seemed to be a mayor plot driver. Some jealousy can be nice, but it can also quickly be overdone. I really wanted to hate certain exes, but they ended up redeeming themselves.

There are certain aspects related to the cinematography that were done very poorly. Some of the transitions were weird and didn’t really make much sense. The NC scenes were poorly coordinated, many other scenes came across as very un-realistic. From the way characters moved, talked… I don’t know how much of this is on the cast and how much on the direction part of the story.

I do think that my expectations for a mafia love story were quite high after watching KinnPorsche. Unforgotten Night sadly didn’t really deliver. But sometimes things are so bad that it actually makes them good.

Stoned Tigers the series

The most memorable thing from this series for me will always be the simultaneously comical but depressing scenes of the poor stoned, obviously tranquilized tigers. It's like someone sat there like ok how can we make very pretty, slim Yoon look like he's in the mafia? I know! Tigers. The end.

Pros:
-That random af but very welcome three way scene with Kamol's bodyguards. I was completely caught off guard with that and it amused me every time the guards were on screen in a normal scene after that one.
-Pretty actors. The actor for Khom was my favourite- he has that reserved, masculine but naively cute vibe going on.
-The actions scenes are pretty funny. A lot of the scenes are funny in that stupidly bad it's amusing kind of way.
-Light, stupid, easy watching fun. Watch on double speed. If you don't take this seriously at all it's not (THAT) bad.

Cons:
-The story, obviously this is not one that should be taken seriously. It's corny and stupid as all hell.
-The NC scenes are...not good at all. Pretty awkward and not passionate at all. I don't think Yoon could ever convince me that he willingly wants to kiss or touch a man.
-The two lead characters are really dull, boring and one note. I actually like the actor for Kim (he was decent in Y-Destiny)- but it's like the only direction he got was to smile all the time, cry cringily in a way that made me laugh and occasionally softly question Kamol.
-Yoon was seriously miscast in this. They needed someone with a lot more presence for this role that could have uplifted the crappy material a bit. Yoon is fine but he's not the right fit for the role at all IMO.
-I feel like I remember there being a Kim chasing Kamol flying away in his private jet scene in one of the trailers? But that never happened unless I micro-sleeped while watching this on double sleep and missed it lol.

Overall not good by any means but not horrible. A bit of silly fun!

Good ending

Seriously this is the perfect definition of impossible love, when Kim thought about being lonely he found his half Kamol. I was surprised how the no for Kim is Yes for Kamol until I found that he liked it that way. This is the perfect representation of a couple that understands each other, goes through situations together, fights break up, they kiss, and makeup at the end. Their determination with them is incredible. I particularly feel their happiness, sadness, love, and many other emotions during each episodes. I am satisfied because I got a perfect ending no open ending no imaginary ending everything is clear I love it I felt good about the ending so I decided to change my 9.5 to 10 is very rare to get a clear ending sometimes. Those main characters have a good connection. Finally he is not part of the mafia anymore and got a real job. Kamol made a huge point here care only about your lover and your family stop caring about others pushing their frustration and anxiety on you because you don't have the same taste, live your life for yourself and be happy. Also light make up for this serie is good we should be able to be more comfortable with light make up on ours faces

concept ruined by the makers!

okay this gave me mixed feelings. just had to watch for day and itt' original story.
• The concept of one night stand turning into a love story might not be very new but the BDSM part was something that would definitely excite the audience and it is appealing but in the series it lacks pretty much everything.
I feel with such story and concept it was a blank canvas which could be used to create a masterpiece but it ended up like a 5 y/o scribbling.. it's actually way too off track. everything's so undefined. character coming and going randomly..
• Day.. wtf is this character just popping out with his boyfriend at the very first episode with absolutely no explanation but then become a very important part of the whole story (day and itt sory was pretty nice and was actually acceptable)
• the Danai character having just one motive "end the main lead" like wth go get a life man.
• I might get attacked for this but Yoon did a very terrible job as an actor like no he just couldn't fit in the role. with only one facial expression I was so confused what this guy is feeling. acting wasn't CLEARLY taken seriously here.
• climax being very shitty with no sense at all
(only khom and baiboon's story and character were well written and played well. though the age gap is questionable but it was cute and wholesome better then the entire show.. )
yeah the camera work was terrible too

bottom text: watch it if you can bare things not making sense and you have got too much time that you wanna waste it.

Worst BL drama I have ever watched

This could so easily have been really quite good. However the casting is terrible, Kamol has absolutely no sign of menace about him, Kim is too much of a wimp for him to ever ask a man to abuse or dominate him. The 'awful' abuse inflicted on Kim in the initial episodes showed a few minor bruises, much less than that inflicted on Kamo;l's first victim. Oh - it seems that they don't even know that a flail doesn't leave single whip marks.. Seriously Kamol make an effort show that you actually get turned on.

Directing is so awful that the cast must have been allowed to do just one cut per scene.

Dreadful

Stuck it out. Get me a t-shirt.

Well.... It finished. And I still have mixed feelings. Mostly I feel bad for the timing of this series. Had it been aired a few months earlier, it would have been seen as quite revolutionary. Right now, after KinnPorsche, it is all coming up short. Blame the timing, blame the hype, it is what it is and that's just not very good and not up to standard. (I reviewed eps 1-8 earlier, see below.)
The concept was pretty good. The visual outstanding. Great sets, beautiful lighting, very nice. The acting was spotty. Sometimes very good. Especially from Ton we get plenty of appropriate emotion. But sometimes really bad. Yoon and mafia is not a great match. In one scene he really nails it, in another he is bland as raw noodles or overacting so much it's cringe. Were Khom and Baiboon doing great, suddenly their story all but disappeared and they were left being props or set filling. I hated the Danil character. I would've happily punched him. The way he made a 180 after the kidnapping was very out of character. Kim is just too good of a person. I would not be so generous towards him. The whole suit thing has me puzzled. When and where did they change? In the car?? That would be some houdini stuff. Not in the house, since they are walking towards it... I just don't know. And what kind of celebration was this? What are they congratulated with? Most likely the retirement, but it's not mentioned once!

All in all this was just a feast of missed opportunities and bad choices, wrapped in a beautiful and sweet layer of fondant.

===============================

Review ep. 1-8
This series was hyped, and that is a dangerous thing. As we are seeing with KinnPorsche vs Check Out, it can go either way. So far this Mafia BL is somewhere in between those two. Not really worth the hype, but also not bad. There are many elements that make me come back every Wednesday to watch KamolKim. The developing feelings from Kim are natural an logical, even though they could stem from a sort of Stockholm Syndrome. In the beginning the chemistry was spotty, but it seems to be getting better, just as the relationship progresses. There does seem to be a whole story beneath the surface though, and I hope that we will get to see some of that. The way KhomBaiboon is being portrayed so far is *chefs kiss*. Respectful of the age (difference) but with so much feeling and passion in the glances and (near) touches. As said, there is enough here to keep watching, but they better deliver on what is being promised!
