A mature drama worth watching

A very interesting plot, kind of a slow burn because you can not be sure about what will happen next. Maybe not the best drama ever but had great performances and interesting twists! I also enjoyed that finally Korean dramas are less "innocent". I mean that most of the times you can be sure about the couple that ends up together simply because they share a kiss - it's like a seal of true love. In this story not, the protagonist is far from being innocent and perfect, as she's already married to another guy. In this drama you can enjoy the story of a mentally mature independent woman who focuses on the goal of getting revenge from the people that destroyed her family (as well as the families of many others). Be prepared though, it's a long unhappy road and sometimes you might wish for a better outcome. I also enjoyed the ending, as I believe it was the best that could happen. It was a form of the ancient Greek hubris-nemesis-atis-tisis. Overall I recommend it!

Good Enough

Korean Drama " Eve " is a revenge melodrama with a strong female lead.

The drama starts strongly, with the introduction of the characters and their background stories. It is intriguing and twisted, with lots of dark scenes and more mature themes.

However, the drama lost its way after that. It focused on the romance and got messy, with the pace being all over the place and no cohesion. It also got boring and lost its initial charm that had it being original, and got predictable.

The performances, on the other hand, were all great.

So, overall, six out of ten.

Another awesome work by Seo Yea Ji

Seo Yea Ji's courage to deliver everything as Lee Rael really puts her in the select group of top actresses in the world, but especially in South Korea. She showed sadness, grief, happiness, passion, spoke many languages, was a mother, lover, wife, deletive, businesswoman, CEO and dancer in Eve.
The fact that Eve tasted a forbidden fruit in the bible also happened in the series. I understand it was a coherent plot, despite several issues I had with CEO Kang Yoon Gyeom's character.
It was an exciting and incredible journey, it made me feel a lot of feelings and made 16 episodes fun.

Eve (2022) - it’s a really good drama for me at the start but then eventually fall out in the end. I am disappointed per say with the ending of the drama. The build up of the story is really good especially the first episodes. Revenge dramas usually are really great especially in the middle part of the drama, and this one is really good as well. In the last 4 episodes, I did felt that the disappointment, maybe because I didn’t like how the story evolved especially in the romance part. The last episode was really not to my liking because I hated the ending so much. Eventually the process of watching the drama is satisfying but I was not really satisfied with the ending.

Love of Eve

The drama was visually appealing with sleek fashion yet shallow, drawing viewers in with its polished aesthetics and grand production, but failing to deliver on beyond its initial entertaining value. Speaking of production, whoever handled the post production processing and edit did a poor job with Seo Yea Ji scenes. They over softened her skin too much to an artificial level of smoothness. Despite knowing what's coming, the plot was initially as enjoyable as having a fast food meal after a late night. The entire plot was structured around heavily dramatized drawn out scenarios. This is the type of plot that other shows usually make a parody of it when mocking makjangs. The constant bombardment of flashy visuals and exaggerated emotions overshadowed everything. I admit I enjoyed that aspect of it but only for the first 5-6 episodes before it lost its appeal. Waiting for the revenge to finalize is what kept me going, however, I can't say I'm satisfied with the resolution of the revenge. I was hoping for something different and maybe a bit harsher. Moreover, If I'm not mistaken, we didn't know what happened to any of the children at the end. On another note, the drama came out around the same time as Seo Yea Ji was going through a controversy. I'm not well versed on the subject, but I couldn't help myself to draw some parallels with her character in the drama.

Underrated (because of the ending?)

I'd say this deserves a 10 purely for SYJ who could not possibly have done a better job.

I understand that a lot of people were disappointed with the ending, but it felt so very fitting to me. This drama shows us the consequences of actions that most tend to ignore, usually wrapping everything meatly in a bow and a happy ending that sometimes doesn't even make sense, throwing aside collateral damage as though it never happened - but contrary to what people would expect, revenge would in reality rarely end well. Regardless of intentions, revenge is a selfish motive and will always, always, result in unfortunate outcomes, though the scale of misfortune may vary depending on action taken - so this drama tries to tell, and at least for me it came across as intended.

As far as consequences go, the end to their relationship was all the more fitting - because from the very first scene, it was a foregone conclusion. No amount of love would be able to overcome the things they did to each other, both directly and indirectly by being a by stander while the other suffered, so when I found myself rooting for them despite knowing logically that it made no sense, I arrived at the conclusion the only way it could have ended is the way it did. That said, every moment felt like an "in another life" one, and seeing the very last shot reflecting my feelings was satisfying in an unexpected way - because in spite of everything they made me root for them.

Did the ending suck? Hell no. Would I ever re-watch it? HELL no. There's the dilemma that I can't quite resolve.

(As a side note, even though SYP was a boringly straight forward character compared to every one else, what with his horribly accurate moral compass, I still had a huuuge case of Second ML syndrome. I wish he got a not so open, more hopeful, happier ending, but since I don't want him to end up with Rael, I'm a bit lost. Another dilemma.)

LOVED SEO YEA JI BUT DIDNT LOVE THIS DRAMA

After watching Its Okay to Not be Okay and Lawless Lawyer i had high expectations for this drama, Seo Yea Ji dramas are always top tier for me, but this one didnt live up to my expectations.

Its not a bad drama, but it isnt a great either. The storyline in general isnt something i prefer, but since Seo Yea Ji was part of it, i thought i should give it a try but clearly i didnt enjoy it as much as i would like. The first episodes were actually very entertaining, i can say i liked them a lot, but after episode 10 i just got tired, Since i am not a big revenge plot fan i clearly couldnt adore it, but watching Ra El fell in love with someone she shouldnt, made my heart drop, i understand that you cant control your feelings but in this drama i found it very unnecessary to make her fell in love with him, i would actually prefer if she had stayed loyal to herself, maybe i am little to harsh because i really didnt like Yoon Gyeom. I was barely able to finish it, after the fight scene i just could stand the fact she still loved him. The end was not bad, i like that she moved on and start looking for happiness. I couldnt stand the way some scenes where filmed, i adore Yea Ji eyes but i really disliked how close the camera was in her face sometimes.

The characters actually were very well written, except Yoon Gyeom who didnt had any personality in him, Ra El was a very good character and i really felt for her, i understood her motives and i wanted her to have a happy end, Yea Ji did an incredible job once again, she is an idol. I have already mention how much i dislike Yoon Gyeom, he had zero interest, his character was boring af, the only think he had was the obsession for Ra El, Park Byung Eun had like one or two expressions the whole time, maybe he didnt have much to work with playing such a boring character. So Ra was one of the best character in this drama, she had a terrible character but she was so interesting, and Yoo Sun didnt an amazing job, i was so impressed with her. Last but not least the best character in the drama and one of the best male characters out there Eun Pyung, THIS MAN WAS THE F* STANDARD, this man will always be in my heart for being so cute and soft, i adore him, in my mind him and Ra El met again and they lived happily ever after.

Overall, this drama wasnt the best, it had a lot of things i couldnt stand and after a while i lost interest but it is an okay drama.

Great show!

Just finished Eve on Viki. This is my second my second favorite 2022 K-Drama release after Somebody.

It was everything I hoped it would be. A fast paced, revenge chaebol melodrama with elements of thriller and heartfelt and steamy romance. The main themes are forgiveness and atonement. Very similar to shows like Sky Castle, Mine, The Penthouse, Remarriage & Desires. Whereas some of these shows have twists and turns with random subplots and a change in the show's tone, Eve is more strict. The story never deviates from the main plot or tone and it stays focused on about 6 characters, giving each one their own dimensions. What's also noteworthy is that this maybe the first time I've seen the protagonist of the story be a femme fatale. While this character archetype is normally the villain, the femme fatale here is more of an antihero: you don't agree with all her decisions, but you understand where her grievance is coming from and root for her success.

On a technical level, this show is first class: cinematography, editing, make-up, costume design, interior design are all excellent. While the soundtrack is not memorable, it complements the scenes well.

The show's best asset is Son Yea-Ji's amazing performance. Already doing excellent work in "It's Okay to Not be Okay", she's equally wonderful here: confident, vulnerable, seductive, deceptive, insidious, empathetic and sympathetic and of course, fashionable. There are so many layers to her performance that she chews up every scene she's in. It's my favorite performance by an actress in a K-Drama in 2022. The supporting cast is also great.

While I love all genres, I've become particularly fond of what I call the "chaebol" subgenre in K-Dramas; basically any stories with the rich and powerful at the center of the narrative. In a way, they're like historical dramas with a 21st century twist. Instead of a court lady falling in love with a Joseon king; it's the daughter of a mom and pop shop restaurant falling in love with the heir to a billion dollar conglomerate.

Highly recommended!

Nice story line and interesting

I have finished episode 4 when I write this review.
The casts suits their roles (needless to say about the female lead being Seo Ye Ji) and interesting storyline.
I really hope she can have closure as soon as possible.
Her outfits, make up and voices is amazing and suits exactly with this drama. Although the male lead is not the handsome type like Kim So Hyun or Lee Joon Ki that we used to watch Seo Ye Ji with, he really suits the character. I’m now interested in how second Ml will contribute in this drama. Will he also in love with FL? So many unknowns.

disappointed

I really like Seo Yea Ji in IOTNBO, so I really excited for her next drama. Especially having Park Byeoung Eun as the ML, acting wise it's a sure guarantee that it's gonna be good. I had high expectations. But after watching 6 episodes, I'm really disappointed. The acting were great, all the actors/actresses were really good, but I don't enjoy watching it. I don't know if the director intended to film it this way, or if it's the editing problem, I just can't stand all the unnecessary extremely slow motion and blurry scenes, especially during the steamy scenes and scenes that focused solely to capture SYJ's impeccable beauty. I get that she's very very beautiful, but please enough with the blurry very extreme slow motion. Already watched 6 episodes so far, still going no where, not much story development, a lot was still in wraps. With this kind of storyline, either it's gonna have second season or it's gonna have a very rushed finish in a few last episodes. It's just blah.. not as what i expected to be.

the lead actress is absolutely beautiful! Nice storyline, great acting, I am engaged!

Let me start off by mentioning again how beautiful is the female lead!!! Not just her physical appearance, her acting and the way she carries herself is also beautiful! Her character is in pain and yet she just manages to show grace and beauty. I wasn’t sure what I was walking into when I started watching this show just by the synopsis. I love female centric plots but I can’t stand self centred female leads, so I was praying that her character wasn’t that way. So far, I am right.

In the beginning I was kind of worried about her husband getting hurt by her but as it turns out he doesn’t really matter (you will find out why).

The male lead also looks in so much pain. Though he seems to be the prime target of the female lead, why do I get the feeling that he is innocent? Only time can tell that.

The second male lead, the lawyer dude, seems like a viable love interest for the female lead. He looks like the kind of person who would try to stop her from getting her revenge because he is “concerned” for her safety, and eventually might fall in love with her character. Now this is such a situational thing, because if the male lead is innocent he’s the guy for the female lead, otherwise the second male lead would take the cake.

The second female lead, the wife of the male lead, also has something about her. She made my blood boil through her entitlement yet I absolutely loved her character. Though she isn’t a nice person, but everything about her personality made me go “offf what a woman she is”. Personally, I would enjoy watching her downfall.

The supporting characters, particularly the second female lead’s father and his right hand man are those who would make you anxious, make your blood boil, and piss you off to an extent of no coming back. There won’t be any redemption for these two. They will suffer the most by the end. I am here to see that happen!!!

And finally the music!!! The OST is just beautiful. It makes you go dayum I can’t skip this part. The actors act beautifully to it.

Overall, so far I am hooked to this shizz. Can’t wait to see what happens!
