A great show that however only works as complementary to the manga.

I really did like Kimi Ni Todoke (2023). It was a super cute interpretation of the original manga. However, its short runtime left a lot to be desired. It's an earnest attempt at adapting 120 chapters into 12 episodes but, well, obvious that's not really possible without sacrifices. So I would say this version works alongside the manga. As in, you can read the manga right after watching this to get more satisfaction or if you already read the manga this version will be a nice little recap. The actors did a good job and honestly I'm here to defend Ouji because everyone hated him being chosen as Kazehaya but he truly did portray the second half Kazehaya so well. One casting I truly didn't like was Inukai as Toru. He just isn't they type of Toru ikemen. Or at all. Sorry.

new kazehaya vibes i got there

i like how new live action succeed to portray early 2000s high school love vibes. you know, image that we no longer get nowadays. there's no rush, full of uncertainty and desperation, but but also gentle and pure at the same time. very cute and wholesome. aaand salute to the production crews who succeeded in making the impression and properties like when they were still at that time, i mean, early 2000s. there are some scenes that make me impatient too lol. but i enjoyed it so much.

ALSO suzuka oji, oh my gosh, to be honest, AT FIRST i kinda underestimated him somehow after his acting on MIU404. and i just couldn't see him for playing role like kazehaya, the sawayaka, prince charming, because i thought suzuka oji is more fitted for petty character (and maybe, mostly because haruma miura still left many impressions to me). BUT after actually watching it, i changed my mind. completely. kazehaya shota image that he created is different from each older kimi ni todoke LA (which is haruma miura) and the anime/manga version. tbh i love the fucked up and desperate version of kazehaya that oji gives. oji makes the emotion feels raw. maybe the most humane and futsu danshi koukousei than the other version of kimi ni todoke.

for the other character, the cast is top notch. but the OST is kinda ... not what i expected.

overall, i love it so much. shall rewatch it someday to satisfy my longing for high school days.

had me giggling and blushing every episode

i liked the pacing of the story in this live action series. when i watched the anime there are episodes that felt too much like a filler so i'm glad they toned it down in this version. i haven't read the manga yet so idk what went down there but let me tell you this, i seriously loved the fact that they paired ayane with kento because in the anime there were times that it felt like the story is hinting something between pin and ayane so i'm so glad that in this version they didn't do that. also, when i watched the anime i was actually hoping that kento and ayane will get together so this is a win for me i guess lol. i also liked how this adaptation cleared some of my musings and questions after watching the anime, like the reason why kazehaya quir baseball. loved the casting, especially for chizu, ayane, and pin; felt like they came out straight from the anime even their hairstyle and clothing matched. kinda bummed out that there are scenes from the anime that they didn't include in this version like the one where kazehaya got weak knees after having eye contact with sawako lol that was such a cute moment. ngl the anime version felt a lot more romantic and heart fluttering and like it was you know perfection haha but they did well with this adaptation and its still worth a watch <3

Enjoyable

I really enjoyed this series overall and I purposely watched after finishing the anime which I found super sweet. This series was just what I needed after the last disappointing series I watched. I really liked the pace of the series too. I mean, they condensed the material but not to the detriment of the story.

The cast is really good and I think the casting director made some really good matches with casting. I liked the actresses playing Sawako, and Yanochan but I especially loved Nakamura Riho playing Yoshidachan. She really played the role to perfection. It was good seeing Miura playing Pin even though I think the character is actually more closer in age to the characters in the anime.

8/8/23

It could been a lot better

I recently started rewatch this adaption from the manga Kimi ni Todoke cus I felt like I didn’t see it properly the frist time. The very frist episodes was interesting to watch, I felt it took time to get through them,

The story version for the series was amazingly build, it follow the manga story line just fine but it felt too short and rather rushed. It going been 16-20 episodes longer like dramas like the series had.

At the same time It wasn’t that good at all? It’s felt abit boring and not as touching to me as manga and anime had. that I thought I felt some characters was miscasting in this like Kazehaya, He didn’t felt like the Kazehaya I hade in mind, he was cute and the personality but he didn’t really have charm, jealousy or sadness either, they should just casted another actor as him same as Ryu, he felt abit short for me, but kazehaya had great chemistry with the actress that played Sawako, although Sawako wasn’t scary or look scary or misunderstood the same way as manga or movie, it felt it abit more tuned down with the bullying, the visuals for the series could been done better.

The OST was wonderful and felt like it worked well with the series! Music is what a lot bring series or movie alive.

I felt like the visual wasn’t all the bad but it was just not there.

For many reasons I feel like I prefer the movie version over the series even if didn’t follow the storyline from the manga so much, but that’s cus I grew up movie version and saw the anime when frist came out. That’s a perfect cast for the movie and felt like the movie version came straight out of from the manga it’s still the best live adaptation than the series sadly, they should use the same producers/director for the series tbh, it could bring out the same magic. The rest of the other cast and the music was amazing too, the music did save the series as well the storyline, but I honestly suggest watch the movie than the series frist cus it felt was boring at times, ugh!

Maybe I’ll rewatch it but not now.

A Light and Wonderful Coming of Age Series!

This is a very delightful and light coming-of-age series about a young girl, Kuronuma Sawako, who is given the nickname “Sadako” because her appearance resembles the creepy ghost girl from “The Ring.” Her hair is long and straight, and rather unflattering to go with a pale and unassuming complexion. She’s a very shy girl who speaks in a soft voice and doesn’t speak ill of anyone, even those who are put off by her.

While Sawako lacks confidence in herself, she’s actually not afraid to pursue and do things, which is one of the things that I found very appealing as well as refreshing about her character. Too often, the shy girl is also a doormat who has to be poked and prodded into doing literally everything. Sawako isn’t that way. She volunteers for jobs, and she actually has no problem interacting with people who interact with her.

It is clear from the start that Sawako only has eyes for Kazehaya Shota, the most popular boy in the school. Kazehaya isn’t put off by Sawako’s shy demeanor, and it’s clear that he endeavors to treat everyone—whether they are popular or not—the same. He’s not conceited or uptight. He has a charming smile and disposition that makes it easy to understand why he’s so popular, especially with the girls.

Sawako quickly makes friends with Yano Ayane and Yoshida Chizuru. What I like about these two girls is that they are quick to stand up for Sawako, even at risk of being ridiculed. I’ve seen many stories with bullying, and it was refreshing to see the proper way for friends to interact and be there for each other. Kazehaya is also someone who is intolerant of bullying.

While the story centers on Sawako and Kazehaya, it’s actually the ensemble group of characters that makes this series appealing. I found myself just as invested and interested in Yano and Yoshida, which was pleasantly surprising to me. Yano is a girl who’s a bit shy herself, and also lacks the resolve to push herself to be the best she can be. She’s had a number of relationships, but they always turn out bad, which leaves her to wonder if she will ever find true love. Chizuru is the fiery, and somewhat temperamental member of the group. But, she is also fiercely loyal and will always have her friends’ backs no matter what. Chizuru finds herself having to grow up in terms of how she sees love. At first, she’s strongly infatuated with Ryu’s—her longtime friend and classmate—much older brother. It takes her some time to realize that the love of her life has always been right there beside her.

The series is a well-done coming-of-age series about the pains and struggles of high school as we see these characters trying to cope and deal with uncertain futures, new and lost loves, and trying to figure out how—and even if—they can maintain a future together while each of them sets off to pursue college and the next phase of their lives.

I also really enjoyed the character of Arai Kazuichi, the homeroom teacher for this group. He’s humorous, light, and encouraging. A true teacher is always looking to instill confidence in his/her students. To encourage them to push the boundaries and not be afraid to pursue their dreams. As an ESL teacher, this is a mindset I’ve always had with my students. And I really loved his interactions with Yano. Sometimes, it only takes one person to believe in you to provide you with the confidence to move forward; to never settle, and to do whatever it takes to fulfill your dream. There aren’t many things in this world quite so tragic as dreams left unrealized because of the lack of courage to take the chance.

The series is light and full of hope that each of these characters at least has a strong chance to fulfill their dreams and live the lives they desire. And while the series may be a bit short on realism, so what! We can all use an uplifting boost to remind us that none of us should ever settle for anything. Always reach for the stars!

As a fervent fan of the anime/manga genre, I was eagerly anticipating the release of this series. However, I was left feeling disappointed as I failed to immerse myself in the atmosphere of the show. The acting, in my opinion, was subpar and lacked the depth and nuance that I was hoping for. While Chizuru's character was portrayed somewhat adequately, and Yano's character had some redeeming qualities, the rest of the cast fell short in terms of their emotional range and expressions.

Charming romance

It's not your usual cup of drama, It's completely different. There's no rushed romance, cliches and cringes, or typical toxic parents. It's just high school kids being...high school kids.
The drama honestly captured the ups and downs of high school life. It was relatable and nostalgic to watch. The struggle to fit in, to be accepted, to have good friends, to find love, to find your strength and passion, and to navigate through the future, the drama represents it all.

Overall it was a sweet and charming drama, and kinda peaceful? I had fun watching it.

Wonderful drama but lacks of something...

Before anything, I watched everything about this manga, starting with 'From Me to You' the movie more than a decade ago, and that movie is still one of my favourites ever, from actors, music and fidelity to the manga, to the animated series, till the comic.
This one is definitely well done, if you had the opportunity to read the series you can't deny how much precise the story is if compared, but also lacks something. The actors did a well-done job, but everything was very stiff and didn't have the lighthearted aura of the movie, that's undeniable, everything follows a line and only that, not excessive, nothing too romantic, nothing over the top.
I do recommend it yes, but do not expect anything

...
