the only needed season 2 I have seen

Loved it. I am going to average it and then see what the overall rating is. The average was 9.083 stars out of 10, so I rounded it down to 9 stars out of 10. The acting in this was just as good as the first one. If not even better. I am going to talk about characters and then look at my episode reviews and write about that, because there's only so much I can actually write and there are word minimums for these reviews. Okay, let's start.

Starting off with our baes, Zhou shu yi and gao shi de. So much went down with these two, with their fucking plot twist after plot twist. They pulled through in the end, though. It was a misunderstanding. There was a huge misunderstanding that they never ended up talking out because Shu Yi's dad is a lonely fucking liar who has issues with love. Putting myself in both of their shoes, I would feel betrayed by the other and not know what actually happened. Everyone hated Gao Shi De because of a miscommunication that was never clarified. The baby wasn't his; it was his literal half brother. Ate with that one genius. Gao shi de and Shu yi's dad unintentionally made a villain with the shit that went down. I'm glad they pulled through. Fuck Shu Yi's goofy ass dad.

Then we got my baes, Shi Zhe Yu and Liu Bing Wei. I love them and their shit. Zhe Yu's visuals are crazy; he is so good-looking, and I actually don't know why. It's the way his face sits; it's just so interesting; I love it. They were cute, but also one of the main reasons that Gao Shi De got so much hate from Shu Yi: they were fueling that shit. Oh my god, with their comments and actions, they were making that hate grow bigger and bigger by the day. I'm glad they had their super mega happy ending at the end; I love that for them. Actually, I didn't even know they were together.

Yu Zhen Xuan and Pei Shou Yi Yu Zhen Xuan was my favorite character. (I am going to copy and paste his name because I am going to be saying it a lot.) First, the actor did an amazing job. He displayed the character very well, and I could just feel the emotion through the screen. Yu Zhen Xuan is such a cutie, and I love him. The way he acts and just is is relatable, and I love him. He had a list of mental illnesses, and I want more background on that. Hopefully that special episode will tell me more about it, lol. I will watch that tomorrow because it's late. I love him so much. Pei Shou Yi, the problem cousin who doesn't feel emotions He started feeling them at the end with Yu Zhen Xuan, which is good character development. He was also really relatable for some reason. The way he acted and his demeanor I love these two so much.

Fuck Shu Yi's father; I hate him. There's not a whole lot more to say about him, lol. I just hate him, and he needs to back his lonely ass up.

In the first episode, I found my love for Yu Zhen Xuan, saying, "I don't know the guy's name, but the guy who is a little strange and sits in his chair like he's a child is very cute." So real me 11 hours ago. I was really interested in what was going to happen because of all the plot twists and gray areas. It kept me really hooked, and I loved it.

The second episode had the iconic scene that we have all seen for sure. I actually had no idea it was them until a YouTube short yesterday told me about it. And the whole promise thing got leaked, and I was so confused, and I was already suspecting the dad, which I was right about for once with this show.

Then the third episode I continue to go on about Yu Zhen Xuan, saying, "I love whatever the weird dude is. He is so cute." So true, I said 10 hours ago, I love him too. There were many suggestions back to back, and this show was flipping me right on my head after making me think I was right.

Then, in the next few episodes, they got their shit together, and we got more information on all our characters while still leaving some gray areas. We got a super mega happy ending for Zhe Yu and Bing Wei and sort of everyone else. Good for them. This was good—just as good as season 1, actually. That's my hot take. I would recommend it. I am sleeping now. Okay bye!

Great but still lacking

First off, rated high bc of incredible acting from both of them. Production value is great too, I felt no awkwardness from crying scenes or most scenes that would make me skip if I was watching another BL drama. The story though, not the best. Overused trope that I really hoped would be different this time around. 5 years relationship gap and for such a stupid reason?! no no. At least a 1-2 year gap would make sense. And the side stories were honestly not great. School doctor and high school student? I really wish the conclusion is that they both move on bc it makes 0 sense for them to be together. Anyway the 2 main leads acted incredibly well. Wish this had a great story as well. I'll still rate it high cause it was worth watching the 2 of them.

Sad, but should definitely watch

I watched this season after the first one, cause I thought it was cute. Nope, I literally cried every episode. It is more mature and darker than the first season, and we definitely got to see more of how their relationship developed after leaving school. There were quite a few moments that were quite heartbreaking which was very different from the first version, but I felt that it was very in tune with the fact they were adults and no longer as young and naive as they used to be.

The acting, like the first season, was good and all the actors managed to convinced me of the emotions and convictions in each scene. Of course it wasn't totally perfect, hence my rating. I really like the music in general, maybe personal preference, but I also liked the way it fit into certain scenes. I would love to rewatch it, but because it's kinda sad I will have to collect myself before watching it again.

But yes, you should definitely watch it. It's sweet, sad, kind of funny at times and quite well done overall.

Shi de is stupid---stupidly in love

*happy ending for both couples*

Again, Yu's acting here is superb. It is the very reason I will rewatch this series. The anger, his love and his longing are deeply felt in his acting. However, the misunderstandings that led to the conflict are very...uhm stupid. Especially Shi de. I cant understand how he could do such a thing to Shu yi for 5 frickin years and act as if he cant tell the reason, only to break his promise. What were all those years are for?

Also, one of the reasons I rated this lower than season 1 is because of the second couple. I really dont understand it. The series made it seem like people with affective disorders are heartless, but it isnt so. They could also switch to happiness too. And not just mirror someone's feelings. The second couple's conclusion are also quite confusing.

I would rewatch this only for the first couple and Shu yi's dad which is really hilarious hahahah. Love him.

What a shame

B+

It felt like listening to a song starting off wrong then turning beautiful right before it suddenly stopped.

I thought this would be a simple high school plot. It turned out more mature I imagined it’d be in the second season. I’d been given passion through discomfort, resentment and repression, To My Star wise. However, everything was shattered with a simple reconciliation leading to a plot lacking the slightest spark. The leads have been put aside to give space to unnecessary subplots. The story ended with episode 4.

Notwithstanding the aborting season 3, what had become a good surprise quickly turned into a disappointment.

Fighting The Urge To Rewatch The First Season (Again)

I'm not sure why I never wrote a review for this? Probably because I was upset initially that our main boys were split up for like 5 years from the first season to this season! I understand why (stupid father) but it felt unnecessary. Although without it I'm not exactly sure where this season would've went. It's no secret that We Best Love is one of my top BL series. Its got amazing acting, storyline, chemistry, music, etc. So this second season was probably never going to live up to that. However, it was still pretty darn good. So watch it! Just be prepared to be frustrated for a bit before things go back to where they need to be.

Best BL and most underrated

Honestly, I only created an account just for this drama. The production quality, the acting chops, the directorial savviness, it's all just *chef's kiss.* I would go as far as to say that not only is this an underrated BL, it's arguably underrated in the whole romance genre.

I look forward to seeing what the actors are going to bring us next in their careers. When I spoke about how good their acting was, I always feel like I'm underselling them because the amount of chemistry and raw passion found between the two male leads is something that I've never come across before in Taiwanese dramas. It really seemed as if their acting belonged on the big screens in Hollywood. They already look amazing in suits.

Too many loose ends

The first series was excellent and a change to the usual Thai BLs. Sped through this eager for more about the main leads' relationship and where it would lead, not really interested in the side relationships. A little confused as to what happened when and did GSD actually tell SY about the blonde woman and baby because I don't recall him actually explaining clearly what happened in the US.

However, disappointed with the ending and felt episode 6.5 was completely unnecessary, repeating what had happened in previous episodes. That relationship I didn't feel was appropriate and I certainly don't think a third season about them would have been justified.. but that's just my personal opinion. I would have liked a closing scene with the two main leads declaring undying love etc rather than the side leads' proposal.. that episode felt unfinished.

On the whole however, really enjoyed WBL.

Best BL drama for 2021

This second season tells the story at the stage of adulthood. It also touches relationship for two people with mental health issue. It is a BL story but you will focus more on the story. Strong emotions in Season 2 that will make viewers feel and empathize. The ending is a bit rushed or disorganized for me but the great story, acting and casts made up for the last episode. I think it could have been done better. I’ll definitely pay a subscription if there’s a 3rd season. It is a well directed drama. Great job to all staff and artists.

pretty good for a season 2

We don't usually get a lot of great second seasons, especially when it comes to bls, so this was a pleasant surprise. If you were missing our sweet GaoShide and ZhouShuyi chemistry, welcome to season 2!

The story in this season is admittedly a downgrade, it all revolves around misunderstandings that could have easily been cleared up but ends up taking years out of their time together. I'm not fond of the dramatics, and the fact that it crossed over into their professional lives to such a large extent is a bit cringe. That said, their acting and chemistry is even better than season 1, and we get some really cute scenes that make it all worth it.

We also see a whole lot of side couple in this season, which is bittersweet, I feel like it's a cute and intriguing story on its own, but it feels a bit like filler at times since you're just waiting to get back to the main story. Also, their story is a little weird, but I think it works for them.

As a standalone, this wouldn't be all that great, but with all of the history between these two, I think it's a pretty well done second season, have a watch!

Watch it for zhen xuan and pei shou yi ❤️❤️❤️

Started watching season 2 for shu yi and gao shi de, but found the relationship dynamics between zhen xuan and pei shou yei more intriguing. Their love story is not just typical bl love story or say not even a love story you”ll see in a typical hetero romance. Their story signifies “ love lies even in the most defective of the human beings”. They both had their disorders to deal with but overcame it with their love. Their story really touched my heart……….

Highly recommend!

To start off, let me just say right off the bat that this review is for both We Best Love: No. 1 For You and We Best Love: Fighting Mr. 2nd. Partially because I binge watched both back-to-back without stopping to write a review but also because it's practically impossible to separate the two once both have been seen. Some of that is due to the flashbacks and reminders in season 2 but also all the references and mentions of things that happened in the past, the series were clearly made with 2 parts in mind. When the first one leaves off with such an open-ended cliffhanger like that, there's no way they were ever considering ending it like that. And if they did, they would have had so much backlash.

Anyway....

As a whole, the series was very good. I thought it would be a quick watch, seeing as each season is only 6 episodes at 30min a piece. But each episode is so packed with content and things going on that were actually relevant that a 6 hour watch-a-thon felt like 2 days of non-stop watching. I'm not complaining, as I enjoyed every second of it... but I didn't realize how much of a mental break it is when a series is lighter and longer with fluff filler that seems so superficial. It makes watching a series with substance so much more fulfilling.

Speaking of which, I can't remember the last series I watched where I felt as empty and sad that it was over than I felt after watching this. I just didn't want it to end.

The pacing was really well done though there is that weird peek into the future at the end of season 1 that causes the whole tension for the beginning of season 2. Admittedly, I was watching season 2 thinking "the misunderstanding better not last for the whole season" and thankfully, it was somewhat cleared up by episode 3. I hate when series have misunderstandings to begin with, let alone using it as the main conflict for an entire run of a show. Thankfully, that didn't happen here. The only thing that never really gets cleared up is who the girl with the child were though it's clear to assume it is She De's half brother and step-sister from the mother's new marriage. I mean, we find out that the mom was pregnant when they arrived which would mean by the time Shu Yi went to the US, the child would have been just over a year old.

I enjoyed the transition from University life to the working world to see their growth as individuals apart from the relationship. Even the supporting cast was great to see in a different light. I almost didn't recognize Zhe Yu and Bing Wei at first but then was happy to see they were still hanging around Shu Yi, even in a professional manner. I thought all the actors portrayed their characters well though I was really impressed with Shih Chih Tian as Zhen Xuan. It is extremely hard to portray an affective disorder without being over the top with it but I thought he did a great job with little nuances and ticks that showcased his struggle with it all.

Some reviews I'd read thought a chunk of the intimacy (mostly in season 2) was unhinged and messy but I personally didn't feel that. I can only assume they are referring to when Shi De was drunk and it looked like he didn't know what to do with his hands. It may seem sloppy on the surface but, at least for me, it is pure and real and passionate. A good portrayal of wanting to cherish but also wanting to devour the guy that got away 5 years ago and you finally managed to have within arms length, even if you are three sheets to the wind.

Not only would I recommend this series but I would watch it over and over again; it was just that good. It's also one of those series that once you know the ending, you'll want to watch it again to see if there were any hints or foreshadowing.
