A trama é incrivelmente intrigante.

Will the Korean Addam's Family be scammed or embrace the scammer?

Ep 1: Love it. When I first read the description, my mind immediately thought, so we are getting some version of Korean Addam's family. It just has that kind of vibe. Initially, the FL didn't leave much of an impression but as the minutes passed by and we reach the end we see the real her and that makes this drama interesting. Even more so than the weird powers all the family members have. The entire Bok Family seriously vulnerable right now and may just fall for the scamster. It was funny seeing ML's mother try to paint all the red flag FL waved into green ones. I'm excited to see how this one goes.

Ep 2: Okay so much happened. First things first, the scene with the treadmill seems as if it is inspired by real life incident or some other drama, because for some reason I feel like I have seen the exact thing happen before. I can't remember where it was from though. Bok Dong Hee is so relatable right now, overeating is an affliction that's hard to break, especially when the food can make you feel so good. The ML also gives us a clear insights into depression, when he said that he is too depressed to be grateful to anyone. It can make one so selfish to ignore their child who is also suffering. Their family dynamics are such that they enable each other to avoid confrontations and that's the norm right now. Despite his addiction, the Gwi Joo's interactions with Da Hee are pretty interesting. I am still curious about the FL's family and how they come to be who they are.

Ep 3: Da Hee's family kinda got the wrong target this time around. They are trying to take advantage of the Bok Family's disorders but she'll only end up curing them. So, no pay day for them. The writers are going to keep me guessing if what comes out of Da Hee's mouth is the truth or Gwi Joo really did all those things when he went back into time. Love Ina though, in the previous episode she told Da Hee to run away from the crazy family. A call back to that was fun to watch. The ending was so damn good.

Ep 4: Each episode is another version of what will Gwi Joo's future self do only for his current self to be completely oblivious to it and I love it. It is fun to watch. Finally got to learn some interesting tidbits about Da Hee's family. And the episode ended with a good kiss. Apart from that, this episode was pretty tame compared to the previous one. Hopefully, it will pick up the pace again in next week's eps.

Ep 4: This was one of the most beautiful episode ever. The grandma is finally doubting Da Hee. I don't like that it is because her mom was ex-convict. She chooses to hold something that Da Hee's adoptive mother has done against her but falls for her poor me innocent act based on one dream. She clearly can't distinguish the good from the bad. I like Dong Hee, she doesn't let the FL's act fool her. She is also wary of FL's foster sister. I wonder if the person who saved FL was her uncle and not the ML. I'm so glad that Ina has some backbone. I wonder how it is going to play out. What an interesting episode. Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow.

Ep 6: Well they finally found out that Do Da Hee is a fraud, at least she admitted it herself rather than having someone else do it. I don't think they know what a grand wedding means, this was such a basic wedding. Ina's story is also getting interesting, I wonder though if the girl is going to bully her now. Gwi Joo really did fall for her, here I was thinking he was just going along with the flow. Next week's episode will be a bit sad, but I don't think Ina will cut ties with Da Hee, she might seek her out.

Ep 7: I gotta say this drama keeps getting better. So Gwi Joo & Da Hee at least have decided to embrace the scammer. I think the Gwi Joo's father will be okay with it to, his mother and sister might not be ready for it. This was a beautiful episode, can't wait to see the next one! Poor Da Hee gets slapped not once but twice.

Ep 8: We finally got to know more about Hyung Tae, the family muscle. He is such a softie. It was fun watching him blow the bubbles and loose at the game with Ina. The rest of the episode pretty much confirmed that it was Gwi Joo who saved Da Hee. I'm not sure what Da Hee's mom is going to deal with all of this. The tidbit about Gwi Joo's father also made him a little more interesting.

Greed kills

First and foremost love that fact this show has a different vibe that I have ever seen. Show was completely new with how everything is played out. The show was very promising giving us nothing cliche and more unpredictable scene. The only concerning part comes from FL. Her actions are highly sus but she does justify them with her attachment to the ML. The supporting cast are perfect in this show displaying multiple character development. The show gives different perception of what people do to take advantage of others although it doesn't work. This show just need work on the acting but overall it gives a promising premise to keep going and further see how the family can interact with each other.

Will it be the best drama of the year?

This series has a sophisticated atmospheric magic blended with real life traumas and believable characters. Every person in the drama is flawed, but relatable and likeable (except the ML’s sister, about who I'll rant below). As opposed to recent “Queen of Tears” where every character was also flawed, but none of them were likeable (perhaps the exception being the aunt).

In “The Atypical Family” story as well as character development expands with an atmosphere – the colour tones, the music scores as well as sound design, and the easily flowing caesural pauses allowing the viewers to take in the vastness of the scene settings, the seriousness of the situations. One could almost compare this drama with the poetry. Actors and their characters are allowed pauses to think, not to say that they’re slow, on the contrary, it makes them and their choices more believable. The script and most chosen actors are spectacular in their roles….. except one minor detail.

The rant:
To me it seems that in Korea there are no plus size actors. I’d bet anything it’s not the truth, but the industry is hellbent on trying to prove to the world that there’s either no obese people in Korea or no “fat” actors. Whenever the creators need to have a heavier character in the show, they just find the skinnies actress and put her in a costume. (To be fair it is impressive, what a film crew can do nowadays, and it does look somewhat realistic, however, it also gives “uncanny valley” vibes, because the actor trying to act is not actually fat.) Not to mention, the creators make that particular character as unpleasant visually and in personality as possible. Around the world there are plenty of big and heavy people, who are wonderful, who do not care for their weight, and even have a sense of fashion. But noooo, let’s vilify the fatness. I would not wish it but, I’d guess the plan for Bok Dong-Hee is to lose all the weight, so she could fly again. I would prefer, if she could accept herself as she is and still could regain flying, because that power should not depend on her actual weight, it is after all a Super.Power.
End of the rant.

All in all, I find the story refreshing and interesting, the clashing of one dysfunctional family with a fake united one, the deadpan comedy, the pain of trauma and not managing to let go of the past.

This drama for me might even be the best of the year.

Different and intriguing Series.

The series revolves around the Bok family, each member possessing unique abilities. Bong Dong-hee (Kim Su hyun) can fly, Bok Gwi-ju (Jang Ki Yong) can travel back in time, and their grandmother (Go Doo Shim) can see the future. However, they lose their powers due to modern-day problems like obesity, depression, and insomnia.

The plot thickens when Do Da Hee gets involved with the Bok family. She saves Gwi-Ju from drowning and later becomes the professional masseuse for the grandmother. Her presence brings about a transformative adventure that crosses time, heals emotional wounds, and tests the limits of reality.

The series is not your typical fantasy drama; it’s a sincere exploration of human emotions packaged in a magical wrapper. The series explores the intricacies of human emotions and relationships, making it a pleasant change from the typical K-drama fare.

The performances by the cast, especially Jang Ki Yong and Chun Woo Hee, are commendable. They have successfully portrayed their characters, bringing depth and authenticity to their roles.

I do know, some viewers find the story and pace a bit slow. But given its complex storyline and the depth of the characters, it’s understandable that the series takes its time to unfold.

In conclusion, “The Atypical Family” is a mix of intrigue, romance, and healing moments. It’s a series that’s well worth seeing, especially if you’re looking for something different and thought-provoking

hermoso me encantó

1/2 Way Through...It's OK

The acting is great, the story less so. Slow moving and it leaves you guessing (a bit too much) for the back stories. How did this family come into their powers? Is this hundreds of years of a family with these powers? A recent curse? How did the sister gain all of that weight if she was once a successful model? Does the dad have powers or is he just along for the ride?

After six episodes of a 12-episode series, one would think that the characters, especially the leads, would be a bit more fleshed out.

A Decent Watch for the Weekends

The first thing that comes to your mind while watching the pilot episodes is the strong, yet uncanny resemblance to X-Men or maybe Marvel (the villains actually joke about this, so the evidence is substantial). The first two episodes have a slightly depressing tone, as they set the stage for a possible romance blooming in the midst of thievery and deception. The star of the show, Jang Ki Yong plays Bok Gwi Joo, is a man with the ability to time travel to the past, but only the happy moments in his life. That piques the question, will you want to revisit the happy moments in your life again & again, won’t doing that make them lose substance and meaning? Bok Gwo Joo was torn apart by the same question in the past & as such, he was willing to use his powers to help people in need. Unfortunately, an unwarranted car crash causes his beloved wife’s death, making him depressed and that results in the lose of his powers. Apart from him, the Bok family is full of individuals who have lost his superpowers because of lifestyle problems. Makes you wonder, how that is possible? We will answer this question and some more in this review!

The Adam’s Family Meets The Hallyu Wave (Everything Korean)

All the up front synopsis for the new Korean Drama Atypical Family that I read on the Internet seems to be wrong. The story is not outlined as projected by news sources. Atypical Family did not meet my 15 min “love it or leave it criteria”. However, there certainly was enough hidden back story revealed to let me know that there was enough paint on the canvas to make me stick around. This story is so very complex.

Revealed in the first episode, therefore, these are no spoilers.

1. The male lead has superpowers which he feels are a curse.
2. The male lead was married to his wife, who gave birth to their first child.
3. She died in a car accident, which appears to have been caused by her.
4. He could not use his superpowers to save his wife.
5. His mother forewarned him of this pending doom.
6. The death of his wife caused his depression, which caused him to loose his superpowers.
7. The whole family has superpowers, but they all have lost them, because of modern medical diseases.
8. The female lead is actually a grifter. She has been planted into this family by a thievery gang, because the family is rich. Her sole purpose is to steal money from this rich family and to give it to the thievery gang for which she works. She thinks that the information about the family is nonsense.
9. This drama is so weird. It is so atypical from the typical Korean Drama.
10. I see the paint on the canvas and it looks like an evolving masterwork.

Mind sufficiently blown. I can’t even figure this one out. Left very intrigued. I am so excited. Episodes post Saturdays and Sundays.

@ Edit: This is such a brilliant drama, from the mind of someone who got in a perfect lane of thought. I am going to drop spoiler explanations in the comment section below, to help those who might be puzzled. Look for them.

What is a spoiler? It is when the drama is bicycling in one direction and then makes a significant turn to another direction and you reveal this. It is very rare that the first episode will contain spoilers, because the drama has not had a chance to progress forward.

Marvel Meets Parasite & Kdrama fantasy

Take Marvel, Moving & Parasite together, add a dash of Kdrama fantasy & you'll get A Typical Family

A very Atypical drama. Gave away few plot spoilers already if you are watching with interest.

It's been tagged as romantic show on Netflix while the first 2 episodes are quite intriguingly mysterious vibes. It's a family of super heroes in their slump era with lots of back stories to unfold and to their further misfortune they're being surrounded by con artists who I believe also has some kind of super powers or something they're hiding.

Overall, a fantasy show like vibes with quite a promising start Maybe Moving kind or maybe Marvel kind. The ML has a unique time slip superpower as well as the other members of family.

Intrigued me enough to continue so let's see how it unfolds.
