Inoue had always been interested in writing novels since she was a child. After attending Senshu University, she wrote a story that received praise from her father, later becoming the writer for the Decade novel with his supervision. Her father stated that Akiko used a pseudonym to avoid being labeled as "the daughter of Toshiki Inoue", though Akiko later went public with this after having already established a name for herself.

Her father is Inoue Toshiki and her grandfather is Igami Masaru. This makes her the third generation in her family to be involved in the franchise.
