VIETNAMESE BL 

My Best Gay Friends ( Bộ ba đĩ thõa, roughly translated as The Slutty Trio) is a Vietnamese web series that debuted on YouTube in 2012. Considered to be the first gay sitcom in Vietnam, it has garnered a large following, receiving about two million views per episode despite being made on a shoestring budget. It is the brainchild of openly gay film student Huỳnh Nguyễn Đăng Khoa, who directed, wrote, produced, and starred in the series.  World of BL site which compiles all asian bl series, lists about 40 BL series made in Vietnam and subbed in english so far! But there are many more which are difficult to access because they lack subs!

PDID Film is another channel with BL movies and dramas. Unfortunately they use foreign bls screenshots for their own productions' thumbnails on youtube!

LukasMovie has also a couple of playlists featuring a string of short movies as well as an unfinished but subbed webseries The Gift Of Youth.

LEE entertainment has a short movie Maybe? apparently worth the watch but only with bad auto generated subs.

MYANMAR BL

I could not find anything about BLs in Myanmar(Burma) if not what is written next to the videos on youtube which is not much. But I find their productions interesting and original: they are obviously making an effort  to make the scarce and low budget productions beautiful and meaningful. For the time being, I guess they are only making short films: there had been few series announced but COVID came and I guess everything fell through! The above poster is from a series announced and never filmed...

CAMBODIAN BL

Information about Cambodian bls are difficult to find and after scouring the web for an hour all I could come up with is SastraFilm, a streaming platform which also produces movies amongst which a number of BL and GL series you can watch in their app. Their youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/@SastraPlus/featured gives you a little taste of these web series!

Who Am I? (Khmer: ខ្ញុំជាអ្នកណា?, Khnhŭm Chéa Neăk Na?; 2009.) is the debut Cambodian lesbian-themed tragic romance film by writer and director Khmer novelist, Phoan Phoung Bopha. The plot deals with a taboo lesbian love story about a Cambodian-American woman infatuated with a famous Cambodian actress. One of the themes is a positive view regarding homosexuality.

As I said, the pandemic pushed me down this rabbit hole and I've been an addict ever since. I started with the usual K drama romcoms. After I figured out the basic formula that structures these dramas, after I completed 5 dramas, and got bored, I started very quickly following my drama crushed into other genres and I discovered melodramas, thrillers, time travel, crime dramas. I tried sageuks as well: that did not work for me! And then suddenly, one year in, I was fed up. I kept seeing BLs all over the place and google became my best friend as I researched the acronym and what it is all about. Where Your Eyes Linger was a revelation. But I ran out of Kbls very quickly so I tried ITSAY (hyped as the best BL ever at the time of its release!) and hated it. I was about to drop the genre when a kind soul suggested I watched 1000 Stars: I was instantly hooked and the rest is as they say, history. But then even BLs started to loose their luster: they became boring, repetitive and just bad especially the overhyped ones. These days I watch and really like those bls that the majority of watchers here hate: I need my dramas to have a plot not just some pretty faces making out. Recently I've been watching a lot of japanese dramas, my latest discovery and they are amazing: short, to the point and tackling issues everyone else seems to be afraid of. I just hope they remain as original and as groundbreaking for the forseeable future because Disney, Netfkix & co are doing their damnest to ruin K dramas though haven't yet managed to get a stronghold on Japan as they did on Korea. China is a particularly tough case: I refused for a long time to watch c dramas (censorship makes me mad!) until I discovered short historical dramas and completely fell for the format. I admire their creativity in avoiding censorship!

The genre I do not watch is the horror: zombies, cannibals, killer viruses, the end of the world asteroids, bullying are not allowed on my screen! There are enough atrocities in the real world!

Finally, the happy ending is a must: I always check whether a drama has it or not and that is why I never watch currently airing dramas. Beside not knowing the ending, I am also wary of hyped dramas which 9 times out of 10 go from the best drama ever during the first two episodes to what the hell were the writers thinking disappointment towards the ending!

About me and MDL: I usually just lurk around, sometimes commenting on other people's posts. Unfortunately I am not funny, I do not have the quick repartee which is a must on line. MDL is the only social network I interact with, the others I keep at bay, as  far from them as possible. There is one thing I am very much against and just like the censorship it drives me mad since it is basically the same thing: blocking people on social medias. I never block anyone, I actually appreciate hearing the contrary opinion which I find often eyeopening and enriching. 

I would like to rant about youth and life and reality and free speech and prejudice and debate... but I won't....!

I would also like to rant about bad hair in K dramas, empty restaurants and cafés, food waste, sleeping in clothes not pyjamas and with the lights on, extremely empty roads and highways where the white truck of doom does not have enough space to avoid running over someone, clean sidewalks, drunk people considered cute, "precious" children's lack of education and manners, women loosing their identities when they become mothers, the shocking amount of bullying in school and in workplace, expensive healthcare, debt causing suicides,  corruption across the board.....Ooops, this got serious very quickly! That can mean only one thing: time to stop writing!
