Only worth watching if you're fan of W Yi Bo or Zhao Li Ying

The play of main actors if nice and after a while you'll start liking their characters. The chemistry between FL and ML is also very nice to follow. There are also a two side-couples that are both funny in their own way. So the love part in those series is quite nicely done. BUT, otherwise the whole story is difficult to bear.
At the beginning the story is really messy. It is hard to follow - who went where and for what purpose. Not only this is because there are often several separate story lines going at the same time but also because antagonists goals as well as main heroes goals keep changing quickly without much connection or clear logic. Some parts of the drama are clearly cut out, loosing some plot to the point I had to rewatch one of the series twise to understand why did this shit happened....
By the middle of the drama - the logic starts to be clear - no matter what happens, and how sometimes childish or stupid main charachters behave - our heroes will win the battle and bad guys will be punished time after time ))) At this point you just stop believing in the story, because you know real people would never act like that and you know there will be some miraculous saving of their lives, and you stop taking shit seriously and worrieing for ML and FL for reals and then just all the fun of watching is gone .....))) I would say the story is a bit too fary-tale like and childish. By around 30th episode I started thinking of dropping it.... But I did finish - otherwise, how would I be eligible to write this review )))
On another hand, I f you just want an easy drama, which won't leave much heavy feelings on you, wouldn't get you glued to the screen and mesmerised by the beauty, unwilling to let any detail to slip. And you just want something to watch on your way to work ( or school) this just might be it...)
Thanks!

Watch it Now!

I came here to specially leave a review for this drama. I was soo involved in a wuxia drama after so long and I completed this within days. Even though I like wuxia dramas my attention span is short so I drop most of them when they start getting boring or annoying but I didn't feel bored for one second in this drama. I loved all of it so much.

The story in this drama had a nice flow to it and action scenes were really good but the main driving factor of this drama would be the two main lead's chemistry and their heartwarming and unconditional love for each other. I was so in love with both of them the whole time. I loved their characters e.g. the calm, cool and talented female lead and a charming, lovely and knowledgeable male lead. Yibo was especially so smiley in this drama and he looked so good! >.<

Watch this drama now. Once you click on the 1st episode there wouldn't be any breaks ;)

Everything in this drama is amazing. From the story/plot to the music

ZLY and WY are both one of my favourite actors, so I started this drama with a lot of eagerness and hope. And the drama definitely satisfied me. It's now part of my top five favourite dramas. And once I finished it, I could not get over the it. I think I
re-watched it again like two times after finishing it. The plot did move slowly, and I only realised that after I re-watched it because they made it up to you by keeping you occupied with something else. There were a few bit that sent me stumbling. And I definitely cried at least twice during this drama(by that I mean the acting was that good, not that the drama was that sad).

The chemistry between ZLY and WY was also great. I think you could kind of see the awkwardness, but also the love they possess for each other at the same time. All of the actors did a great job, in fact I sometimes even forgot that this was a drama and not real. I really loved ZJQ's character (Li Yan) in this. Whenever she appeared on screen I would make sure that I wasn't eating or drinking anything for fear of the fact that she would make me choke while laughing. And the chemistry between Chuchu and Li Sheng and Yang Jin and Li Yan was so cute. It was literally to die for.

As you can see from the rating I gave the music a perfect score of 10, because I personally fell in love with the music. I made sure I listened to the opening song for each and every sing episode, so that the song and music would be stuck in my head. Yeah, that's a bit weird...okay really weird, but that just shows how much I like the music for this drama. And I also felt the appropriate music was played at an appropriate time.

ALERT!THIS IS A VERY SMALL SPOILER THAT MAY OR MAY NOT AFFECT YOU!
Also if you hate dramas that have a sad ending. You don't have to worry about that for this one.
So I think on a whole this is my dream drama. It has ZLY and WY. Great plot, acting and music.
It is definitely worth your time. I recommend this drama to you a 100%. Hope you can watch and enjoy this drama like me.
❤ ❤Thanks for reading this awfully long review!❤ ❤

Love the chemistry of Zhaoliying and WangYibo

A Fei and Xie Yun onscreen chemistry is top notch! ………..They are so natural, overall, the series is quite decent and better than many other C-Drama series. love it!……… I recommend you to be patient when watching it, the beginning is a bit slow and a bit hard to understand but later on you realise that everything has sense. This is the best wuxia drama performed by the great and adorable actress, Zhao Liying and a Yi Bo. Their strong CP chemistry will melt your heart. ………Liying break her own record again and will definitely be inspired by Yibo. They are the rare jewels of China and Asia…………..and make audience happy with their acting skill.....Hopefully can seen them in another project together in the future……..

Watch for the Love, don't pay close attention to the Plot, and you'll be in for some enjoyable time.

Legend of Fei was one of the most anticipated Cdrama ever, with a meaty original story, a mostly capable and well-loved cast; interested parties invested a lot into the project so it was definitely not lacking in resources. With that many things going for it, you'd think the drama would be good if they just treat it well enough, yet it fell short in so many aspects.

The story is a coming of age classic - thrown into a turbulent world, our young, inexperienced protagonists proceed to learn new, terrible and beautiful things from people (old and young) they meet along the way, make friends, and find love and their places in the world - but this time it is a wuxia with a female lead. The drama focuses on the romance between FL and ML, which is rooted in deep respect, where Xie Yun truly admired Zhou Fei and yearned for the life in her, and Zhou Fei saw herself reflected in XY's eyes and came to really know and value herself. It is *chef's kiss*. Having read the novel, I am most interested in how they present that story.

Camera work and editing - 4/10
It is just horrendous. The framing and camera angles are so often odd and confusing. The transition between scenes is very abrupt at times. Some sequences of shots are either weird or monotonous. The techniques and effects employed can be the very opposite of effective (shaky camera, zoom...). For a wuxia, the fight scenes are rarely good or exciting, with a lot of weird focusing (mostly put on the actors' faces). I grew up watching wuxia, and in this LoF is worse than wuxia from 15 years ago. This is at a level that is impossible to overlook and highkey disruptive to the story telling.

Acting/cast - 6.5/10
I have to say, everyone in this drama is really really good-looking (even compared to other really good-looking cast), the costume and styling contributed greatly (the bangs, though, is a sore spot).
+ Leads:
When I read the novel, I thought ZLY and WYB are perfect for their roles. ZLY's look, with her big, expressive eyes and pure, radiant countenance, suits Zhou Fei's aura to a tee. Xie Yun is perfect for WYB to show his many expressions and playfulness which I saw in the BTS of The Untamed.
Overall, their performance seems solid, but not captivating. The chemistry is off and on, with the best of it found at around the middle, when ZF realized she cared for XY deeply and that she could lose him, but she was not the type to show it openly, and XY was aware of their feelings but refrained, to keep her at a distance from a dying man, so they just kept to teasing and bantering, while obviously cared for each other so much. The tension there was just delicious.
I think ZLY studied ZFei very closely and tried to portray her in an understated way, and she really went for it. However, there is a certain lack of energy to her portrayal, which undermined ZF's determination and sharpness. ZLY seemed unfocused in many scenes in the beginning (and her aura was kinda too mature for the naive ZF), and when ZF has opened up, at times I found ZLY just smiled softly and prettily, not brought out a particular emotion. Her most emotional scenes are quite lackluster. The zoomed in camera and thick, sometimes overly white make up also did not help her.
WYB did fine and appeared natural enough, but somehow, his portrayal of XY seemed very surface-level. I find that he had talent and a special sensitivity which wowed me in The Untamed, but did not impress here. For the two leads, I'd give an 8. Their acting was good but did not hit hard when it came to the important parts. The voice dubbing did not help, either, with ZF's sounding too soft and mumbling, and XY's high-pitched laughters being a little off.
+ Supporting roles:
I liked most of the supporting actors and actresses for the good and grey side. They were convincing and attractive (except for some annoying characters like Li Yan and that Third Prince). I applauded Chen Ruo Xuan and most of the actors/actresses for the senior roles.
However, the acting for the bad guys really got on my nerves. They all had some kind of evil laughs, evil-scheming expressions and some comical exaggerated evil gestures. There are like 7 or 8 bad guys, and it got boring and irritating.

The writing - 5.5/10
Gosh, this is the bane of the drama. The writing was all over the place and it made all the previous imperfections stand out. Looking back, I think on paper I like the direction they took for many characters and I believe it could work. But somehow when put together, the whole thing felt very loose and redundant. In theory, I like Li Sheng's development process, Li Yan - Yang Jin - Ying He Cong trio's adventures, Ying He Cong's whole story, the invention of Hu Tian Ying character,...

That makes me think of why, and I came to realize these problems:
- So many pointless happenings and chit-chats that it made the pace uneven and really drag at times.
- So many illogical and stupid things, minor and major (Chuchu's brother, the conflicting plans of Xie Yun at Hua Rong, characters suddenly lost and died when they were winning two seconds before, characters stopped to chat while being chased by the enemy, a general took a walk alone in the forest with the most hunted girl and left her there, Hu Tian Ying's plan at 48 Zhai...) Every episodes had some of them, and there are just too many to list them all.
- Dialogues were arranged and written in a very boring manner, even those taken from the books were not put in effectively.
- LoF had the skill to tell back-stories in the most unspiring way ever. The scenes from the past were very cliche and dull. I wish they had left some of it to our imagination. Sometimes less is more.
- They took away brain cells of almost every character. They all made dumb decisions at some point, with the lucky ones did it like 2, 3 times and unlucky characters were just hopeless. The bad guys were especially stupid (their plans were like child's plays, they forgot their plans halfway, they did not give chase when they were winning and kept rushing to death when they should escape,...) There was this man at 48 Zhai that was always loud and brash and dumb, when he's not like that in the novel. I find this treatment of his character so problematic and off-putting. A lot of senior characters were turned incapable and witless to make the younger generation smarter and better, which is just... NO. And the fact that most villains were older did not help this impression.
- The dumbing down of the whole story. All characters lost some edge to their personality. Everything was held together by the thinnest thread of logic.

I think the main reason for this is, so many scenes were written just for the sake of increasing screen time for certain characters, to have something (anything) happen, or to create drama (the whole love story between Li Sheng - Chu Chu - Yin Pei was just... ugh). The story was not driven forward by our characters, but by the writers doing whatever they like.

Music - 8
Wu Hua and one or two other songs sound nice, but the way they added it to create Moments is quite repetitive and not effective.

Conclusion: There are certain enjoyable and cute moments. Characters are likable enough. The relationship between the leads is lovely and quite well-built. Don't watch it too closely and you'll be fine. Just go in for some light-hearted fun and cuteness. (Also, watch it for the hot people!)

Don't Even Bother -

The quality of this drama is so bad that I am here write this review. My first review on MDL ever.

Unless you're watching LOF for the actors, do not watch this drama. The plot is super faulty. Not cohesive at all. It's like person 1 wrote eps 1-3 and then person 2 wrote 4-6 without reviewing what person 1 wrote.

ZF's character is super stiff - very different from the novel. There is more character growth for the side characters than the main. Towards the 2nd half, you wonder if this story is still about ZF. Is she really the center of this story? Like if you take her out of the plot, the story will probably still continue.

Production work is just bad. A group of film students with no experience can do better. Just pure wonky - The lighting is never consistent. Half the time, the character's faces aren't lit. Camera compositions are off - or you wonder why you're looking at one thing when the characters are talking about something entirely different. There's zero visual storytelling. What the dialogue says is what you will probably see.

When a production crew loves the work they do, it will be obvious to the viewers. Unfortunately for LOF, the message I received from their production crew is, "let's just get this over with and make money." Why this drama has such high ratings is unknown to me.

You may ask, "if you hate it so much, why did you finish the whole thing?" Welp, I don't know how to answer that. I just know, when I think back, the only memorable part is in Episode 1 where there’s a Wang Yibo sitting a tree wearing nice black robes.

(I just want to say, actors do not determine the success of a film/drama. Good story, good script, good directors, good technical hands, and more are ALL equally important.)

Wuxia Drama

WangYibo acting is improved and he can perform his active & cheerful character very well. He can show with his eyes about Xie Yun really fall in love to Zhou fei. Overall Script and story is not bad but not excellent & still have some flaws . I really enjoy watching as wuxia drama and will re-watch again. OST are nice and match with storyline. Fighting / action scenes are good and nice especially zly and yibo ones . If story phase of drama is a bit fast in first 15 episodes, will be more nice. I like happy ending of drama .
There are a few wuxia drama series in these days , plenty of xianxia drama . I like to watch Chinese wuxia drama since I was young. That is why I like and enjoy “legend of fei” although it has some flaws.

So worth rewatching

It’s one of my favorite dramas now. I love the cast and the story line and the music that I’m planning to rewatch so many times. I watched this because of wang yibo, now I can see how much his acting improved from when he first started. I’m not putting any spoilers here because if you want to know what happened you have to watch it yourself. But I PROMISE ITS WORTH WATCHING. If you don’t have IQIYI you can watch it with subs on dramacool or YouTube.
When the story first starts it may be a little boring, but after a fei help xie yun in the start they start a friendship. Then they help each other along the trip. When the poison in xie yun started killing him, it’s really a cliff hanger after the episode end and you have wait the next day to watch it.
In the story it shows what friendship, romance, and bravery can do

If you are looking for a drama which contains overall genre Then this is it "Legend Of Fei"

Absolutely Beautiful. Amazing . Praiseworthy .Legend of Fei is undoubtedly one of the best dramas I have seen till now from 2017 . It's a drama with many main genres combination. Love it.
Story : It is drama which contains many mystery , plots. It's main highlights are Martial arts . Good people are fighting for peace. Fighting against the Demon. I really enjoyed the entertainments . There many plot twist which make it extremely interesting. many story revealed in many episodes. All together it's a full package story. the Chemistry and cuteness between FL & ML was too good. They both can risk their own life for each other . The understanding between them is so clear. Ending is very sweet . AFei & Xie Yun Chemistry sometimes made me fall in love with them.

Acting : The actors are really very good . They acted so perfectly. Though Wang Yibo is a Rookie actor , he acted very well ,more than our expectation . It was Zhao Liiying's first drama after a long break. So she also did very good. Other cast did also very acting. The acting was very natural . All the fighting scenes are so energetic and flawless. Director directed it very well.

Music : I love all the OST of this drama .Specially 'NO EXTRAVAGANCE '. It has a great meaning which touches my heart. Also 'XiWei' by Wang Yibo . It's a beautiful
song. Every single OST is so good and meaningful . The OST s are very related with the drama's story. So this makes it more attractive .

Rewatch Value : I just have finish watching the drama. From the Episode 15 , I made my mind to watch it again. Now I will watch it again. It has a great Rewatch Value. The real Drama lovers will find this drama very attractive and beautiful. It has certainly 10/10 rewatch value
It is a must watch drama.

So be patient don't judge for early episode and make your own decision without watching for all, for me the story so sweet and they always together and become the strong couple and trust each others

I honestly thought this drama was gonna be a hit but my expectation for it was way beyond i can imagine. I almost drop this after a couple of episode but i am only watching this because of Yibo and Zanling. What i really hated about this drama was the dubbing. I was so disappointed when they dubbed all the voices like really. Who ever dubbed Yibo voice is horrible. It does not even match him at all.
Storyline. I didnt like how they made yibo a weak man throughout this drama. Honestly if they switch roles it would of been better.
Acting/Music. I love the music n acting wasnt that bad.
ReWatch. Will i rewatch this, maybe if i get really bored and have nothing else to watch i will

Not good

Let's be real here, this drama has Zhao liying and Wang yibo, that's why it's popular, otherwise if it was any other cast, this drama would have flopped so bad. I just started watching this drama only for Wang yibo, this has to be worst Drama ever, the directors and producers really did injustice. I am a fan of XZ and WY, by no mean I am a hater, but really pls don't watch this if you think it's really a time wasting drama. This drama became interesting only after 20 eps for me.

Pros

1. Acting
Wang yibo improved so much in acting. He can control his expressions so well, I am impressed.
Zhao liying is as always perfect but in this drama I don't what happened to her.

2. Stunts
Stunts are really good and I won't emphasize much on that because it's that good.

3. The music/ost goes so well with the drama.

Cons :

1. The female lead is wearing the same costume for 18 eps straight. This drama was made on high budget, but they still forget to change her costumes, which shows. It took 20 eps for Miss chuchu to arrive at the fortress.

2. CGI
the forest and the scenery looks so fake in the drama.

3. Characters
There are more than 100 characters in this drama, in each ep, any new character will show up, so the focus gets diverted from the main lead to these characters. There are so many of them that its boring to watch.

4. Dubbing
The main female lead voice doesn't match her character at all, it's too soft for her character.

5. Many annoying characters
There are many characters in the drama which I find very annoying and worthless, like fei's cousin Sheng and even fei's mother sometimes.

6. No chemistry
We can't see a perfect chemistry between the main leads, because we all know their age gap, I cant bear looking at them, I just feel awkward. (atleast for me)

7. Confusing plot
The drama is really confusing even on ep 20, what's even going on you won't understand anything in it, you will be just spacing out.

8. Cuts
Omg now what to tell y'll about the cuts, they have choppy cuts ( idk how to describe it) but its very annoying. It shows unprofessionalism of theirs.

Ignore my English pls, as it's not my first language
