LOF

you can't just watch it because both leading actors are beautiful but incredible acting by Zhaoli and WYibo. loving every bit of it. WYibo has done great job acting with the veteran Zhaoli who is perfectionist. So far I am not bored and music is great in every episodes. Martial arts acting or wuxia drama takes a lot toll on artist but Zhaoli is incredible after having a baby able to manage this type of hard work. Yibo is a dancer so it maybe easier for him too but it's all about perseverance and persistence, WYibo has shown that. Over all, acting, facial expression, music, backgrounds is great. Supporting both Zhaoli and WYibo.

Amazing!! Ignore all the hate reviews!!!

As a huge fan of both Liying and Yibo I loved this drama. It was so funny and sad but overall super enjoyable. I loved how they focused on the side character love story as well and followed their journey and not only Zhuo Fei and Xie Yun's. The cast was ultimately one of the best. Everyone portrayed the character so well. I love the ending music song and the one Yibo sang too. Will definitely watch again to support my fave actor and actress. Although the set looked fake they had to film almost most of the scenes in a forest so props for them because that it was amazing. It so cute to see Yibo as such a loud character compared to Lan Wangji. Overall, loved pretty much everything in here.

Could be better

Summary: loosen your high hopes. Watch the first 20 episodes then fast forward. Waste of time. With recycled setting. All blah blah with almost all predictable plot. I miss Princess Agents.

Pro:
-one of the best actions scenes. Very well though of.
-actress is a good one like in Princess Agents(not the best in playing out emotions)
- some good plot. Really generic when you think about it
- Good CG, even my old mom likes it

Cons
- lots of camera zoom and prolonged pauses. So boring
- unnecessary scenes like prolong chit chat of where is this and that.
-some recycled scenes that makes the adventure boring. They’re running in the same set.
- Recycled setting/CG
- zero zero chemistry. It’s all cutesy-pie, but it doesn’t pull you. The action scenes will pull you more.
- Gayish 3rd prince and the other guys who liked the lead actress seem gayish. They should get a more many demeanor to make it believable.
- Gayish type of scenes with the main actor and poison guy and many other scenes with main actor.
Makes one wonder who wrote this and directed this show.

Mesmerising

This drama is absolutely worth watching, with two great leads - Wang Yibo and Zhao Liying. The two of them demonstrate the best onscreen chemistry I had ever seen in Chinese dramas. Their acting was very natural. I think this drama is underrated on Mydramalist.

Yibo continued to mesmerise with his good looks and excellent acting. He is very versatile and did equally well in this drama as a playful and mischievous young man as he did in The Untamed as a cold stern stony face. I am impressed with his acting skills - his facial expression is remarkable - he can talk without saying anything - just like the way he did in The Untamed. In this drama, his face would lit up whenever he saw Fei (acted by Liying). His jealous reaction when a love rival appeared on this scene is likely to make you crack up.

Liying has this amazing ability to develop this onscreen chemistry with her male counterparts in all the dramas I had seen her in.

The drama was not so emotionally intense and there were humour scattered throughout. But as a drama, it would keep you captivated as you wonder who was Xie Yun, what was going to happen next, the mystery behind the 'Hai tian yi ser' and the various dramatic events. The pace was good until about episode 38 when there were a few scenes when the story was not making much progress - seemed to me like time fillers. However, I do not think they account for more than an episode put together.

I watched the drama a second time and liked it even better the second time. Not caught up with wondering where the story was going, I could focus on the acting and appreciate it even more.

However, I must suggest that translators stop using 'legend of' as drama titles - they are so overused, they cheapen the value of the drama, and sound so cliche. This drama could be simply called 'Fei' or 'Shrouded Myth' or 'Love Beyond'.

My first Wuxia Drama

This was my first Wuxia Drama and I am glad that I watched this first. Tbh as it was my first Wuxia drama I have no idea what to expect. I just started watching this because Yibo was there. This drama had its own flaws but overall it's was good drama.

First of all the story. The story was good. However there were too many characters that I forgot half of people name or didn't bother to remember. But then again this might be how wuxia drama normally are. The editing of this drama could have been better. There were some scene which felt the odd and seem like the order of the scene was wrong. For an example instead of doing 1,2,3 and 4 it seem like they did 1,4, 3 and 2.
This drama also had some great fighting scene. However, those scene were minimal. There is one fighting scene which left quite a big impression one me. So I was looking forward to more scene like that but there weren't much.

Well I have nothing to say about the cast because they did that amazing. All the cast members played their character so well. They brought the character to life. Tbh in this drama I saw Yibo in another light. He brought the character Xie Yun to life and I have to say he became one of the most memorable character. For Zhao Li Ying this was my first time seeing her act and I have to say she is amazing actress. She played the role Zhou Fei so well. She brought every emotion of Zhou Fei to reality.
Well when these two actors come togeather then there is no doubt there will be a power couple. I really love this CP. I wish they could have more scene in later half of the drama tho.

The music was really good for this drama. It suited the scene so well. I really love the intro and ending theme of this drama.

As for re-watch I am not someone re- watches drama. And also I don't think if I watch also I want to watch the whole series maybe I will watch the couple scene and some of the fighting scene.

The main reason why I liked this drama a lot or was satisfying to watch, maybe because of the Xie Yun and Zhou Fei. I really loved the couple, the chemistry that they had portrayed and their cute interaction. It was too good that it kept me hooked until the end.

What wrong with y'all rating this so low?

I loved this storyline, I am glad there was no competition on women loving men and vice versa. In this story, everyone stayed in their lane (relationship). Finally, a storyline where I can relax and not throw a shoe at my TV. Zanilia Zhao, so glad she is back, playing Zhou Fei she did an awesome job like she always does. Wang Yi Bo, nodding, that's my Rapper, Dancer... love him... what a great and talented artist he is. His acting skills are so on point, perfectionist maybe? He was absolutely stunning in this drama. The martial art in this was superb and exciting to see. I wish I could collect all the styles when I was younger. The visuals, OMG, the cave where Xie Yun's master lived in. I wouldn't mind finding a cave-like and living out the rest of my life. Those visuals were perfect! You have to watch this with an open mind.

A good drama that could have been excellent

When I started to watch I expected it to be excellent because the plot is based on the "Bandits" novel and FL ( Zhao Li Ying ) is one of my favorite actresses and she delivered now too .

Even though the drama was good, it didn't quite live up to my expectations because there was some unfortunate flaws. The worst shortcomings were related to ML's (Wang Yi Bo ) character - both for his character and actors performance.

ML's character was supposed to be intelligent, thoughtful and charming but what he delivered was a smug and stupid teenager. Most obviously, this was far too difficult a role for Wang Yi Bo.
After watching a few episodes, I wished the drama didn't have a male lead at all - he could have had some kind of supporting role. The problem was made worse by the fact that there are a lot of conversation scenes between FL and ML in the drama. This became annoying because the ML's lines and visual expression were completely contradictory - at the same time, their romance became completely implausible.

PS. Why there nowadays are so many Chinese dramas witch are spoiled by poorly performing male leads and / or by poorly written male leads characters ?
Can't writers really come up with other types of male characters than manipulative narcissists or poodles ?

Find your way to your own happiness, not others' version of it.

Is being in a position to rule the world and letting it go for a normal life not being ambitious and irresponsible?

A dynasty that was dethroned and the descendant that focused his life on revenge and taking back what's his, that story has been told a million times.
Here we have a dethroned prince who would have been emperor who tried at first but realized early on his temperament wasn't fit to being "the owner of the world". Why? Because he isn't cruel enough.
We meet him as a wanderer who is trying to find his place in a world, he has no "holy mission", he's just someone that wants to lead a happy normal life and a compassionate soul that will help those who he sees having a hard time.

A hero that takes every evil people as his duty to exterminate and always puts that above everything else, we've also been told that story.
But here we have a lead who just loves martial arts, she enjoys learning them, and more than fame or being the best or solving all the world's problem, she just can't witness injustice and pass it by. She just can't.
More than a mission, she has really strong no-negotiable principles that she's fully ready to die by.

What's most intriguing, this drama addresses that, it shows the character being aware of the risks and at time doubting and second guessing and I loved that. Is wanting a normal life not having ambition? No, you just have a different ambition than others. An ambition to be happy as you.

In this drama we encounter our leads helping others and becoming legends for it in their way to actually just live their lives, find themselves and their happiness. I personally think there's no grander mission than that.

The leads relationship also was addressed in such an splendid way. I love how this drama didn't shy to show them facing their own disagreements even when these were born out of qualities they love about the other. It's also one of those rare relationships where there's no really any stupid misunderstanding, these two know and trust each other and that is a constant throughout the story.
There's no passionate kissing though, but there's kissing, and I honestly loved their relationship development. First, they are friends and family. Second, they are absolutely head over heels for each other. It's that order. Is there longing? There is. Are there difficulties? There are. But even when they are apart (very briefly), they stand together. Is there jealousy? Very little, and almost in jest, but there are some moments too... even so they trust and respect each other too much to be overly possessive of the other.

Apart from the leads relationship, there're a lot of characters worth knowing in this drama. The secondary couples' love story was "meh" to me, but every other master or guide along the way was precious to me. And the friendships made along the way were too.

I loved this, I wish it had a better rating for it deserved it.

A good drama with a huge potential but lacking the depth.

I enjoyed this drama a lot because of the story line but it was lacking in many ways. I wish the directors had put the extra effort to refine the script which was lacking at many places.

Politics: They didn't dwell into this aspect at all even though it was one of the most important aspect. Everything was happening for political power. Rather they dwelled into Good & Evil. Which was ridiculous at times considering the empire was doing nothing to those people if they were really evil just because they are from Martial Arts world. The dynasty got changed but the old empire Army was still fighting for the empire under the new emperor ( this is completely ridiculous)

Secondary Characters: The FL going on campaigns was understandable. However the other two SFL were unimportant. They only got in the way. However they always accompanied the group. It would have been better if they were given some fighting power or kept them out completely. They became scene filler making the drama uninteresting.

Consistency: Throughout the journey the drama was very inconsistent. The characters smartness and strength were changed according to the requirement of the scene. For Eg: The SML was supposed to be smart and clever but I never felt that side of him except for the few episodes where it got mentioned.

Romance: Even though it was not the important aspect of drama but Considering the amount of time they spent on the Main Leads flirting, it felt very lacking. At times I would even doubt whether they actually love each other. The passion was just lacking.

Zhao Liying's Badass Return

Anticipation peaked as I awaited this series, primarily driven by the desire to witness the badass actress from 'Princess Agents' in action again. Needless to say, Zhao Liying did not disappoint – her performance was nothing short of amazing. Wang Yibo, despite having less experience compared to ZLY, held his own as a decent actor. I've heard praises for his series 'The Untamed,' though I haven't seen it yet, so I'll reserve my judgment on that.

Overall, the series lived up to expectations, but if I'm being honest, I found myself yearning for a more ruthless Zhao Liying. Maybe it's just my personal preference, but her fierceness adds a unique flavor that I can't get enough of. Here's to hoping for more of that in future projects!

I really think this one is underrated

When it comes to lengthy historical Chinese dramas, it is a known fact that the drama will take 20 something episodes before the main plot kicks in. This was also one such drama. The first few episodes are a little difficult to get through but once you keep watching, I assure you it's got one of the most promising plots and characters.

Story:
It's a typical story about camaraderie and how everyone grows with every single experience/obstacle that they overcome. The character of Zhou Fei begins with an impulsive and immature character but it is wonderful to watch her become the best of herself throughout the drama. The character of Xie Yun is just absolutely charming and I could keep watching him forever. It's a female centric drama which focuses on a strong female lead and I'm totally a fan of such dramas. There's enough drama involved that there's no unnecessary drama between the main leads. Their romance is just very pure and the blind trust between them makes the drama worth watching. With the exception of some plot holes (like what happened to Chuchu's brother), the story is pretty decent and engaging.

Acting:
I've never been a fan of Zhao Liying. I always thought that she lacked the necessary emotions to pull off intense characters. But she surprised me in this one. As for Wang Yibo, he has always been one of my favourites ever since The Untamed and he was the main reason I got through the first few episodes. If you liked WYB as the cold and aloof Lan Wangji, this one is a must watch as he plays a completely opposite character. His smile is absolutely devastating. The rest of the cast also did a great job in making this drama worth a watch.

The one thing that I totally loved in this drama were some of WangYibo's dialogues! They were just so unique, hilarious and original. His character's flirtatious nature just makes the drama even more enjoyable.

Do not judge the drama based on the storyline mentioned here as it is much more than a story of bandits. I hope everyone likes it and enjoys it as much as I did. I'm off to read some fanfictions to get over this drama!

You either love or hate it

I don't usually write reviews but it seems like a lot of people either loved or hated it, not much seen in between. I hope this review will be helpful to someone wondering if they should start it or not.

Story: The storyline itself is good. I thought it was quite solid. I just didn't like the execution of it that much. I could tell the actual story was interesting and it hooked me in quickly. I wish they had spent more time on Xie Yun's backstory instead of giving Li Yan and Yang Jin as much screentime as they did. Pei's backstory as well was rushed. There were a lot of unnecessary side characters imo. Aside from this, it was an interesting watch. I just skipped over a lot of extra stuff that gave nothing to the plot. I'm guessing the directors wanted it to be more comedic at times? But that kinda failed.. This drama should have only been 36 eps max.

Acting/Cast: I watched this for Yibo and this is his best role yet. I love all of his facial expressions. He's proven that he is such a versatile actor. Not only could he pull off the cold role in Untamed, but he also nailed this role too. He carried the drama for me! Liying is well-loved by many. I do like her costumes and makeup in this drama though. She looked very cute and young. I actually held this drama off for quite a while because I'm not really a fan of Liying but she was decent in this drama. Chuchu and Li Sheng were okay too. Nothing phenomenal to me.

Music: The OSTs are pretty good. I really like Yibo First Rays and Liu Yiuning's No Extravagance.

Rewatch: Don't think I would rewatch this. I skipped a lot. If I did, I would only watch clips/MVs made by others on youtube.

Overall: I get why it disappointed some, but I still think it's worth a one-time watch. Especially you are a Yibo fan, I highly recommend this drama. This drama also gave me TVB 80s series vibes so if you're into that, I recommend checking it out and giving this a chance.

I saw a lot of people complaining about how the scenery/props look fake. I honestly didn't notice... I have seen and watched worse than this. I don't think you should drop an entire drama due to just that.
