I am happy that the drama has been released after so many days. The plot didn't look good but the emotional scenes were great. Some scenes are very common, such as headphone sharing, running after a car/cab after a quarrel, hotel scenes are very common! Somewhat outdated some scenes. The early and late episodes have been very good. Some things are well presented, such as the cyber bullying, the scenes before the wedding ceremony, and Lin Zhixiao's father's performance.
Xiao Zhan's fashion sense is very good ... The thing I like most about Xiao Zhan is transformation. And in this drama, I liked it very much.Xiao Zhan has performed very well in the romantic & emotional scene.
It would have been better to explain some things, such as the issue of transfer is somehow avoided, some scenes like this have been avoided beautifully.
Yang Zi has done very well in emotional scenes .. In some scenes she has been shown to be very immature... at least at the age of 20's she needs to have a little more maturity. As example Zhixiao went to bar at night with her friends on the other hand, her father was sick & he will be worried for her,she doesn’t even care at this time. Any father will be worried & will be sick if they has daughter like her.
Some of the supporting roles were very annoying. E.g. San San, Gu Xiao,Shao Jiang etc.
Since my favourite is Rom-Com genre drama ... I have seen a lot of such dramas, so from experience I can say that there was no shortage of romance in this drama --- there was also comedy. This drama is worth watching, of course. It is foolish to look for logic in drama. So I took the illogical issues positively.

Perfect Realistic Drama

I try to write this review as objective as I can despite I'm a huge fan of Xiao Zhan.

Story:
When I watched the drama trailer for the first time about 2 years ago, I thought this will be like another sweet idol drama, which the main characters are beautiful and dreamy visualized. But the story proved that the first impression is not correct. This drama's story is not contain deep heavy topic, just slice of life theme which is very familiar with our daily relationships matters. It is so realistic yet so philosophical that you even can applied the way they solve conflicts with logical way and healthy emotion. Although the background of character's jobs are in the specific field as doctor and musician, there are no complicated terms of medical or music inserted in the story because it mainly just focus on the relationships, how they built it up and maintain in till the end. This is a sweet romantic drama but not exaggerated in physical passionate love, more about mature and traditional value based love.
The pace of this drama is adequate, with little spark of comedy in almost every episode. The side characters are not much developed, the focus is mainly on two main characters and the FC's family. What I like from the characters are they are not perfect, they have flaws and they never stop learning how to live with each other's flaws.

Acting:
At the beginning, I heard lots of complaint about YZ and XZ acting, either too exaggerated or too stiff. But after entering the quarter of this drama, the audience has learned that it is because of the character's background which made them act like that. The most surprising of YZ's acting is when I thought LZX is mostly another copy of Tong Nian (YZ's character in Go Go Squid), she delivered another character's trait that made me realized that LZX is different and YZ has given a new soul to this character.
I think I will be biased when talking about XZ's acting. XZ never ceased to amazed me with his soulful acting, every character he depicted is not the same, is very unique and has their own life. From the BTS, you can tell that Gu Wei is not Xiao Zhan, and Xiao Zhan is not Gu Wei, they truly have different personality. I'm now in the mode of addicted to XZ acting that I can't wait to watch him in another drama.
The chemistry between characters, specially the two main characters, are natural, so overflow that you almost can't tell the difference of their acting and their real relationships.

Music: The OSTs which were sung by the two lead actors are very stunning songs. Ones of the most beautiful theme song of drama.

Overall: This drama is a masterpiece. One of my all time favorite drama, specially after having drama-slumped for about half a year.

bland/immature

What makes me upset about this drama is that it was commercialized as being a melo drama and it is so far from being that in the end. Melodramas are supposed to have a deep emotional impact and this show does not really have that. It plays its generic goofball soundtrack far too many times to be called a melo drama.

Story: There is so much you could do with the plot given so I am excited to see what they do with it. However, this drama has been kind of corny so far. I wish it were more emotional. They spend most of their time in the hospital, so the world does not seem fully fleshed out. I wish that the characters would get out of the hospital and explore the world beyond just Xiao Zhan's doctor's office. Yang Zi is a musician in the show, but so far we barely get to see her play or practice, it is disappointing. There is a lot you could do with the characters and their backgrounds. You could get very deep and emotional with the music and medical aspect of the show and I hope that the show uses that and delivers in that sense. So far, it has explored the emotions a bit, but the more emotional scenes have tended to be very short, which is upsetting because the acting in them is so good.

Directing: The camera angles are not the best. I personally am not a fan of the super up-close camera shots. The transitions are choppy and scenes get cut off in odd places at times.

Music: The main theme is very good. The other music sounds like it is royalty-free music off of Amazon. I prefer when they play no music in the backgrounds of scenes or keep the music at a down low. The music played in the club has been horrendous.

Characters: Xiao Zhan is really good, he is very handsome and will make your heart flutter in every scene he is in. Yang Zi's character is very cute, she is a bit of a goofball, but so far I do not dislike her.
Edit: Yang Zi's character is beginning to become very insufferable and sooo immature. No adult would act the way she is acting.
The only character I like is Dr. Gu. The thing I don't like about him is how he doesn't stand up for himself. If there is an issue he just blames himself and caves. He apologizes. He changes for her. I cannot see in reality how a guy like him would actually be okay with dating someone super immature, nosey, and cringe.

Acting: The actors have so much potential. The emotional scenes so far have been very brief; I wish that they would lengthen them and that those scenes would have more depth because the actors are so talented
Edit: Potential is not reached, the script is so bad.

So far the show seems a bit bland, but it is not too boring. After about episode 6 or 7 the plot becomes very cliche. I still want to keep watching it, nothing has made me upset to the point where I can't watch it. It is no 10/10 amazing, perfect show, but I think it is good for a casual watch. It is not the worst show I have seen, but I feel like it has lost potential thus far; hopefully, I will be proven wrong on this.

Edit: The script is so bad. Xiao Xiao is so unlikeable and immature. It is very unrealistic. In reality, Dr. Gu would not like her, like her character is just too much. The conflicts are boring and very bland. She creates a conflict and he has to solve it although he did nothing wrong. I am just so disappointed with these. People waited for years for this show to come out and this is what you get? A very mediocre romcom type drama? So much wasted potential, seriously. On 19 episodes now and they just keep getting worse and worse. Skip through the side characters plots, they are just as dumb as Xiao Xiao.

This review is not finished... this is all my opinion
update : very cringe , very awkward and embarrassing
final update: the last 2 episodes were ok, I would skip the junk in the middle cuz all it is is them having childish fights about miscommunications and what not, doesn't mean much to the story at all. Last 2 episodes they get married and it's cute, wedding is cute, stuff happens with the dad and Yang Zi gets to display her acting abilities a bit. Xiao Zhan not so much. Tbh its just very disappointing that you have two incredible actors, but give them the worst script. Wasted potential, :=

LZX is a big no for me

This is probably not a very popular opinion: but I couldn't connect with Lin Zhixiao at times I thought she was extremely immature and she really made me angry, i think i don't like her character here, in real life we probably never wold be friends and because we're talking about friends let me tell you: her friends are the worst !!!!!!!  sometimes I need to take a breath, they were unbearable.  I have several low points in LZX.  Sometimes she looks like this little kinds doing tantrum, I think mainly she has a personality that I don't like (and it's worth remembering that this is my opinion, there are people I connect with or like in this case I didn't connect ).Ohh and i need to say that Mr Lin was one of the characters that most evolved over the course of the drama.

On the other hand, Gu Wei was a refreshment, it's almost impossible not to fall in love with this character, for real he is the best in this drama, BUT I agree with someone that said he lost a lot of his personality because LZX and i find this sad... BUT in another hand i really love him!

Overall it's an interesting series that's worth giving a try or maybe not because we have a lot of good romcom that is better than this one.  What I really think is you can support XZ and still be critical of his work, this drama it's not for me, i struggled for end this and i only ended because o XZ, being honestly here.

Of course I don't say is the worst romcom that I ever saw but he doesn't add, the story is average with more lows than highs and the lead actress is unbearable as are many of the supporting actors.

Swoon / Natural /Sweet

I really loved this drama, not only because of the Leads were amazing but the whole story was good.

This drama centers on an uplifting romance between a doctor and a cellist. To be honest, the story isn't particularly unique. It's just a typical rom-com like we see in c-dramas. Except for the medical aspect of the drama, there is nothing unusual about it. But it's the characters and, of course, the cast and their acting is what makes this drama so endearing. I loved the ML both the first and second, although at times I did find the pace a little slow, but it was worth it when you get to see XZ dressed up in doctors robe, suit/or just hanging out with the girl.

Xiao Zhan & Yang Zi have beautiful chemistry and definitely worth waiting 2 years for, but gosh I hate that they made us wait for soo long. with this drama, I hope China makes more dramas with this theme.
BONUS POINT:
-Cute Second Lead Couple
-Family Love
-Friendship
-The OSTs make the drama more lovely (and I was hooked to intro osts before the drama aired ❤, it's just awesome)

Overall value is high since I’m already re watching to see the cute Lin Zhi Xiao and Gu Wei!

Suprisingly excellent

This is the first romance drama I have ever watched. To be honest, I started watching it because of Xiao Zhan. However, I did not expect to like it all that much since this is really not a genre I usually choose. I prefer thrillers, horror, crime etc. so I expected this drama to be more of a background noise or that I would keep my finger glued to the FF key. That was not the case. The drama was easy to watch, not too saccharine, and I was able to look past most of its problems due to the excellent chemistry between the leads, mostly great acting and a very sweet soundtrack.

Story: The story is not particularly new or original. During the first few episodes I had a problem with the overbaringness of the FL's father and the unrealistic portrayal of the medical stuff. I had to often remind myself that this is a romance drama and that they were never going to devote much time to the details of the doctors' work. So, while the hospital and the father's cancer are depicted in a sanitized way, the emotions that arise when a close family member is dealing with such an illnes were presented very well. As time went on, the father grew on me and his death made me cry uncontrollably. I have to say that the final two episodes are one of the best and most emotional portrayals of different stages of grief I have ever seen.
The love story itself was sweet and not toxic. Both ML and FL were sometimes very stupid and dense but that's how people are when they're in love. Their romance was believable and the ending was georgeous. Even the two other love interests for the ML and FL were only annoying for a few episodes so I appreciate there were no unnecessarily prolonged love triangles in the drama. The score is not a 10 mainly because of the unoriginality and the obnoxious side characters. San San was super annoying, selfish and conceited. I dont' think her and Gu Xiao should have ended up together. And that sentiment is doubled in the case of our thrid couple. Yi Xi's continuous insistence that the boyfriend was the one who should apologize and that it was all his fault was grating. I have to give kudos to the screenwriters who dedicated the final few episodes mostly to the leads and the FL's father because focusing on the other two couples would have truly spoiled the mood and the emotionality of those episodes.

Acting/Cast: This being a romantic drama (sometimes a rom-com), I didn't expect a huge acting range. Both XZ and YZ did very well with what they were given. They embodied the characters perfectly and they truly shined in the more emotional scenes. The chemistry between them was top notch. I was surprised at how well they sold their love story in only 29 episodes. There were no awkward or unnatural moments, and every hug, kiss and conversation seemed real. I deducted half a point for the actress who played SanSan because she overacted in basically every scene she was in and for the ML's parents who seemed wooden (although the script didn't really give them anything to go on).

Music: Wonderful and sweet, I can't get the songs out of my head.
Rewatch value: High, although I'm not sure I would be able to watch the final episode again, it hits very hard.

Overall: The drama was well worth the wait and is a prime example of how you can elevate a very simple concept by hiring two talented actors. I would recommend this to anybody!

An Attempt to Express my love for Gu Wei and Lin Zhixiao

Let's get straight to the point: I loved this drama. I found myself very attached to the main couple, I bawled while watching the finale. (It aired the day after my birthday, I was eating my birthday cake while watching it hahaha) I finished it the day it finished airing but I've finally managed to gather my thoughts coherently about just how much I loved watching this couple grow. I'd been anticipating this drama for a long time and when the first episode finally aired I thought I was living in a fever dream. It just felt unreal to see Yang Zi and Xiao Zhan and Lin Zhixiao and Gu Wei on my screen. I loved their characters, especially Dr. Gu Wei. The way Xiao Zhan portrayed Dr. Gu Wei's emotions really moved me, it felt raw and genuine. I liked Lin Zhixiao's bubbliness, and though sometimes she'd day some questionable things, they'd get resolved and explained later. (That's Dr. Gu's doing) I don't really watch modern romance cdramas because of their long length, but I was pleasantly surprised about just how much I enjoyed this drama. I felt like I fell in love while watching too. (Also... watching this was huge BI PANIC ahaha) I was giggling and twirling whenever they said some romantic things to one another, watching this drama was just what I needed after a tiring day! Their character growth as their romance progressed was refreshing to see. And I fell in LOVE with the OST, especially the theme song. This drama was definitely my cup of tea, though I'd understand why some people wouldn't agree with me. I'm the type of watcher who is completely fine with tooth rotting fluff, I don't care for a plot, I just wanted to see them happily together. (and we DID see that T^T) While watching the finale, there were many tears streaming down my face. I was soo happy seeing them married and living their lives with their child.
I basically repeated myself throughout this review, but I recommend to those who love healing romance dramas! I'm a bit hesitant to write down this bit but I've always seen marriage as a scary topic/concept/thing (?), as what I've been exposed to in my IRL life, so watching this drama and this couple made me rethink a bit of what I had thought before. (Though it isn't the first time a drama had ever made me rethink the concept of marriage "Because This Is My First Life" it definitely made me see it in a far more positive light.) Overall, the cast did an incredible job bring this drama to life (and i give them a thousand thanks for recording their duet for the theme song) and I finished this drama feeling like a satisfied watcher! Here's the line that stuck with me the most: GW - "If we're to old to remember anything, I hope that loving you is the last thing I forget."

beautiful and realistic drama

i havent cried over a drama in forever but the last 3 episodes of this made me cry my eyes out , the cast was incredible and portrayed the emotions necessary so well .

theres nothing annoying about this drama, it just shows the realities of life in how sometimes everything can go from being fine to not, it shows how one can deal with knowing you are going to lose someone and not be able to do anything about it .. this hit home and i appreciate how realistically it was presented.

mmmhm
the ending felt rushed?? so many plotholes about the also childish second couples
(btw, i watched 29 episodes but here it says it has 32 )
ML was cute but nothing else
Kiss escenes were great but the couple itself didnt gave me butterflies in any escene
music was ok and also acting
If you have no patience like me dont watch it but if you have Go ahead

What is the beauty of Oath of Love?

This is not a typical romance comedy drama. The portrayal of the Male Lead is different from the usual male character.
Xiao Zhan's portrayal as Gu Wei is like the novel came to life because its realistic, relatable, the actions and the expressions are what you can see or what a person might do. You can empathize with his emotions, you will feel his sadness, frustrations, happiness and love. It's not exaggerated but smooth flow or delivery of words, expressions and movements.
Yang Zi's portrayal as Lin Zhi Xiao is good, you can feel the pain when she learned about the sickness of his father.
The message of this drama is so touching and lovable. It can give the audiences insights and positive influence.
I wish they didn't cut scenes and there are more episodes because its not enough.
Wishing for more projects between Xiao Zhan and Yang Zi.

Oooohh it served. The visuals the romance the angst the comedy everything was absolutely perfect. The bts videos showed they really had a great time while filming. You know what i loved mosssttt about the drama? The relationship wasn’t cringe. I mean really. Most Chinese/korean dramas do this thing where the couple doesn’t even move their lips, blush violently or worse one of them freezes even when they're a few months into the relationship. Xiao zhan and yang zi did an amazing job showing what a normal relationship looks like. Little kisses cuddles bickering aaaahhh made me feel single in every way lol. It was very beautiful.
