Lan Zhi decides to investigate Huan Ge and meets Ling, an old palace puppeteer. She reveals that Xiu used to be caught in a love triangle between General Guo and Minister Ye. After breaking up with General Guo, she sought solace in Minister Ye but left him when she realized she was carrying General Guo’s child. Lan Zhi informs Yuan An and General Guo respectively about his findings, unaware that Yuan An’s stepmother and Mrs. Guo are eavesdropping.
