When A-Qing uses her bamboo stick to point out where Xue Yang is, the latter stabs her and Lan WangJi's sword does the same to him. Xue Yang's arm gets sliced off and the masked man appears again to take the halved Stygian Tiger Seal from him before disappearing. The fight then ends and the disciples catch up with them. Wei WuXian then leaves Song Lan and Xue Yang to finish their business while he and the others bury A-Qing right outside Yi City. As Song Lan lands the final blow on Xue Yang, the latter flashbacks about when Xiao XingChen finds out about his identity. While the two face each other, Xiao XingChen learns more and more about all the lies Xue Yang had told him, and finally commits suicide after knowing Song Lan was killed by his own hands. Desperate, Xue Yang tries to revive him that night but fails; and is left to scream his name in agony. As Xue Yang lies on the ground injured, he stares at the last candy that Xiao XingChen had given him and passes away. Outside, the spirit pouch reacts again and Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi returns to Yi City to find answers. At night in Tan Zhou, the disciples walk around the night market and a toy paper butterfly reminds Lan SiZhui of his faint childhood. On the other hand, Wei WuXian misses A-Yuan, and also buys a paper rabbit lantern with Lan WangJi. Later, the disciples wait at an inn while Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi meets with Lan XiChen to discuss about Nie MingJue. Not long after, the disciples inside start to argue loudly. (Source: Wikipedia)

Xue Yang's humanity

The sects, cultivators, and life itself hated Xue Yang -- he defied the odds to survive -- he built himself up from the bottommost rung -- yet never lost his 7 year old self. If only someone had of reached out and gave a hand to the 7 year old trapped inside his adult body - XY would have lived contently by that person’s side. Candy is a metaphor for the sweetness, love, kindness that was missing in his life. Always out of reach - snatched away by cultivators - leaving only a scar both on body and mind.Xue Yang's flashbacks expose his vulnerabilities to the viewers--flashbacks of himself that nobody else saw. WWX never saw the real heart of Xue Yang. Possibly Song Lan witnessed enough to recognize Xue Yang's mind shattered from Xingchen killing himself. I can count four times that Xue Yang's mind got shattered and all by cultivators too: first time was by Chang Ci'an: result-- who would give justice to a penniless, dirty, nobody street kid? Where were the great sects at ? Who championed the street kids?!2nd time Xue Yang's mind shattered when someone he trusted enough to let down his guard, back stabbed him, and left him to die in the ditch. Xue Yang would have died from his wounds either by the elements or by animals if Xingchen had not be travelling down that road. Even then if Xingchen had of delayed a certain amount of time, Xue Yang would have died!3rd time Xue Yang's mind shattered when Xingchen slit his throat because of bad choices on both sides parts! *yeah i'm not exactly letting you off the hook XY!* Xingchen made the wrong choice to confront and trigger Xue Yang. Xue Yang only reacted in the way he had been pushed into by the cultivators of the righteous world....4th time that Xue Yang's mind shattered for good: Wei Wuxian after doing *a biased empathy with A-qing* came to the conclusion *and without asking Xue Yang's side* to condemn him to death--not quite sure that it was mercy in WWX's mind.... anyways he then proceeds to drive Xue Yang to mentally break down. Xue Yang died alongside Xingchen the moment the man put a blade through his neck. Xue Yang barely lived -- his self survivor self wouldn't let him go. The 7 year old inside him sobbing for Xingchen to come back for 8+ years must have taken such a toll on his health.

Partial Justice Mete

Finally justice is served on some of those who deserve it. We're on the path to clearing up this mess, and it feels great!

Thankful that those who think they're on the side of justice that figure out Mo Xuan Yu's real identity don't act like jerks. That, for the most part, they leave him in peace. Also, glad to see Wen Ning back in action! It's been too long for crying. I'm glad I can finally have a few smiles.

Wangji and Wuxian's couple moments are so wonderful!

Zewu Jun proves that his ability to determine a person character is shit compared to Wangji. Zewu Jun relies on what he can see on the surface. He relies on pretenses like all the rest. Having made an assessment, he's too stubborn to correct it. Wangji looks beyond the surface. Wangji never blinded believed in and followed Wuxian's lead. He measured all of what Wangji said to his actions. He looked deeper into things than anyone else cared to do. Everyone only cared about you conforming to a set of predetermined ethics.
