Jing Ci is the son of Consort Jing of Yong state. He was born prematurely as the result of an assassination attempt by the Yuan family, which also ended his mother's life. Feng Mian Wan is the daughter of the Yuan family. She was kidnapped in infancy to pay for Consort Jing's life but was saved by then-five-year-old Jing Ci. Feng Mian Wan and Jing Ci grew up together. She acted as his maid while he enjoyed his position as the godson of the king of Zhao state. Although Feng Mian Wan is not good at her job, Jing Ci not only tolerates her shortcomings but takes care of her.
