Both Japanese movies has beautiful music. About how a young man grew up understand the parents hardship and why they were put in the path the parents want them to be

Both stories revolve around Japanese funeral rituals and focus on how death can be seen as a dignified, reconciling and comforting part of life process. They have some very strong emotional moments and are full of delicate calmness and soothing settings.
Hirosue Ryoko has a support role in both titles.

A film about an unemployed and untalented cellist taking up a new job as a person who prepares body before putting into the coffin. After returning to hometown as a failure in the music world, he applies for a job with vague description. It turns out to be a job posting for "encoffiner", a person who performs rites and rituals before placing the body into the coffin. A 'tainted' job in the eyes of the society, but he eventually develops pride and purpose in this profession.

Both deal with corpses. Not exactly the same genre. This one is thriller mystery, the Japanese one is cleaning the corpses, very soft and gentle.

Both titles deals with leads taking care of dead bodies and preparing it for funeral. Their job is looked down up and people sees them as bad omen. The prejudice, and hatred of people as mortician in both titles depicts the sad reality.

Though very different in tone and length, both titles can help non-Japanese people get a bit of insight on how the dead and the people who work with them (pathologists and norikan) are regarded in Japan.

Both Japanese movies has the profession of cleaner. Both showed how young honest people struggle to survive in the cruel society.

Deals with themes of loss and acceptance

Both characters seemed lost from their previous jobs/life, as they go deeper into funeral work.

Through their journey of helping people move on, they begin to re-discover themselves and what they lost.
