Another boring and lengthy Xian Xia drama even it has awesome actor.

I am dropping The Longest Promise with Xiao Zhan and Ren Min after 10 episodes. I don't like the Xian Xia genre; I have tried many times (TTEOTM, TJOCZ, etc.) and dropped all of them. It is not a genre that I am into.

Xiao Zhan is a good actor, but to pair him up with an FL who is not as high caliber as him is a waste of his talents. I can't stand the dubbing voice of the FL character either because it was the same dubbing voice for other FL actresses that I ended up dropping all of those Xian Xia dramas.

The special effect is good, but to see the heavenly realm and monster in a fantasy setting is not my thing. The pace of the drama is also too slow that it did not lure me in. I don't want to waste my time since it is 40 episodes long.

I give it a 5.0 rating because of the bad acting on the FL, which is too slow, boring, and long.

I am rooting for Xiao Zhan and Zhao Lusi in a historical or contemporary drama together. They are both good actors.

I've waited for this drama like forever and my Shi Ying did not disappoint me. So far so good and I'm in love with Bird Chong Ming 🥰😍 he's so cute and so full of himself 😅 I love Shi Ying character for standing up for himself against the high priest Da Si Ming and doing things his way unlike so many dramas they would go round round without knowing who's blocking them. That's a plus. The story and plot is interesting. Zhu Yan is doing a great job and her acting is good too. Whoever is complaining about her character should go and ask the director cuz she's doing what she was directed to do. I love her. I hope that Yuan will have the reincarnation of his beloved and not to start rivalry with Shi Ying but who is the director to let that not happen

Longest promise " literally "

YGY is funally here!!! im so happy.😍😍🥰🥰🥰
i cant even remember when was the last time since i've watched a drama with Great CGI and good visuals ( magestic costumes and beautiful scenic building clusters etc.)
the plot of the drama is catchy and i can't wait for the next episodes.
the actors are also very professional i can't find the words to describe my feelings towards xiao zhan, his acting is non comparable, he's got more and more profound understanding of each character he plays, such a great person ❤
overall, the waiting all this time hasn't been wasted and im very satisfied.

I hope they come out with a season 2

I don't usually watch movies i have to read, but this movie was not only addictive, but beautifully outstanding . The storyline, was awesome and creative not to mention the acting was so moving. And it is so refreashing to watch a movie that is so beautifully intimate. American movies are so sexualized. And lack depth. I dont mind reading movies anymore and i do hope and pray they do another season. I will definately watch this again, i think i may even see if i can buy it. I dont mind reading movies anymore when it has this much quality to it.

The acting is not bad. But every episode Yan was crying was so annoying. there is way too much screen time of the support character, it kinda feels like I am watching multiple dramas at once. and Zhan and Min are the third lead couple (they just happen to be a part of the plot) I am honestly skipping the support role screen and going to Zhan and Min. It's not a bad show it is just wayyyyyyyyyyy too much of the second and third-lead couples

The romance it so SLOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.. omg I swear for like 12 episodes he was trying to tell her he liked her.

what saves this drama is the acting and the theme song.

Was kind of okay. The romance in it wasn't my cup of tea.

In the beginning, I had high hopes from the drama. The visuals were pleasing and I was hoping that the leads would impress me. For a while, the story seemed to be going in a good direction, but even I a watcher go tired of the ML's constant rejections. The FL was someone who just couldn't take a no and kept on annoying him to no ends. She just put him on a pedestal and decided to worship him, accepted all his decisions were right and made up excuses for the way she was treated. This is what happened between them for the first 35 episodes. They finally got together in the final 5 episodes for a short-lived romance. It was an open ending, thankfully I got to read the novel ending, where they get married become the Emperor & Empress. When they die they are buried next to each other.

The drama ending reminded me a lot of Love between fairy & Devil. They should have done a better job.

Bai Xue Lu was the most frustrating character to watch. The way she just shamelessly tried to pursue people would have been okay if both of them didn't love other women, who cared for them in return. She didn't even care about her own sister and would have tried to break apart her relationship because she wanted to be empress. The sad part is she did not even want the men, and treated the one man who wanted her shabbily. She liked him but chose ambition over him. Then suddenly she had a change of mind, maybe had a epiphany and decided to become a decent person. Both the Bai sisters got their happy ending.

Love the main ML, disappointing FL!!

I don’t usually write reviews… but omg I’m so disappointed in the casting for the female FL :/

I have been looking forward to this costume drama since it was announced and with all the delay in airing… I was so happy to finally be able to see as I enjoy a good costume drama especially with actor Xiao Zhan, he is not only a good actor, his role is clearly depicted in his acting. On the other hand we have the main FL I dunno what they were thinking but acting skills is on a total different level - she acts like a B-rated actress, like i those cheesy dramas. I just find her acting annoying, it doesn’t flow, sounds more like a spoiled brat in her lines.

I will watch further to see if her acting improves but I’m not crossing my fingers….uuugh

Unquestionably bad Chemistry

The storyline with the first 20 episodes is ok, but the most debilitating aspect to this show is the Chemistry.

The main actress is cute in the first few episodes and when she supposedly matured in some scenes, she still has a tendency to look down the ground like a waif.

The main guy is supposedly her master but he doesn’t seem to have ‘that’ presence. Chemistry is hard to manufacture. The screen may show if there is chemistry in the characters.

Cinematography is cool. Acting is plain so-so.

Disappointing

Not sure if I'll drop a spoiler, so I'm putting the warning up.
Ok, I love Chinese costume drama.... and of course I have some favorite actors. I have only stuck around this long because of the ML. The FL though is grating on my last nerve.
I don't know if I'm the only one, but she greatly portrays the same characteristics of female villains. I find her pretty unlikeable.
I'm still trying to finish this, only because I have nothing else to watch right now.
Maybe things will improve, doubtful though.

INCOMPATIBILITY

Alright before everyone slap me with vicious comment, I think Xiao Zhan is way too handsome for any female actresses to become his compatible co-star. But at least the production team should have chosen a skill actress as a FL rather than this one. As banished Royal Prince Shi Ying, Xiao Zhan was immaculate, dignified, serene, preserved, a perfect gentleman for a prince. Cultivated in seclusion, once solely focused on his tasks, he develops romantic feelings for his disciple Zhu Yan but their student/teacher relationship prevents either from expressing their true feelings. The thing is Ren Min not up to the task, with a big nose and raspy bangs she wasn't a typical female that would melt an outstanding prince's heart to have a happily ever after together. She's an okey when doing modern drama but sadly not this. I might be over estimated Shi Ying a reclusive young handsome prince might not be down to any girl but he's fallen to the silliest girl. Someone that wearing her heart out is more suitable actress to partner with Xiao Zhan's beautiful romantic feature. I can't think anyone better suitable as his co-star. I do think they miscast the FL, her acting was average, her character (& voice) was annoying endlessly, the plots weren't new. OR if it wasn't Xiao Zhan, Ren Min might have a better luck with this drama, IDK.

Of course, I dropped this drama soon after realize that this duo didn't bring emotional drive that they intended to, it's mismatch casting. Ep 1-8 wasn't interesting, I think I gave them enough chance. I also find Xian Xia genre doesn't catch my attention. All that flashes, magic, and all the stint, it loses integrity of acting skill and creativity, it's all about digital works. The concept of story line is overly used. Xiao Zhan should do better in choosing script.
