Never Let Me Go

People are too harsh on this show/ stop comparing it to kinnporsche!!!

Ok so I’m not gonna sit here and say that Never let me go is an amazing show that you need to watch. But the reviews are not doing the show the Justice that I think it deserves so let me share a pretty neutral take. Not to harsh but not sugar coated.

Let’s start with the good:
-pondphuwin chemistry never feels forced, very good.
-the times in the show where it’s supposed to be emotional, really does a good evoking it.
-palm and nueng’s relationship is not perfect and is even problematic at the beginning, but the way it progresses later on is very natural and doesn’t feel rushed or sudden.
-basically the whole island arc deepened the characters which makes you feel more connected with them when the conflicts happen near the end.
-episode 9 is amazing and single-handedly brings this show up one rating
-side couple is very cute and loveable

Ok now what makes this show not the best:
-plot holes: why is palm like freakishly strong and can fight and shoot a gun if he’s a fisherman living away from the city??
-nuengs uncle could’ve been caught and stopped so easily even though they were tryna pretend he was rlly powerful
-weak and predictable antagonist (I thought maybe there’d be a twist cuz it was laughably predictable.. but no)
-nueng and palm are both annoying sometimes and don’t get each other. When palm pulled that running away stunt after nueng did it it just felt so out of place and unnecessary. (Unlike when nueng did it)
-Ben and chopper relationship rushed and not enough screen time.
-ending was very very predictable

Btw: GUYS!! palm being a body guard for nueng makes sense.. he needs someone his own age to actually attend the school plus palm kinda owes his family his life. Also, I think palms mom wanted nueng to have a friend more than anything and that’s kinda apparent when she’s pushing for palm to joint nueng with his activities: him being a bodyguard is just a perk. (But I do agree that nueng being so badly bullied in that school is incredibly unrealistic)

Also sorry but I have to give a little section to episode 9: because the emotions in that episode felt so real and were so realistic and it actually made me tear up a little. I was surprised because the acting throughout the show was very average but it was like all of a sudden they bumped it up for this one episode. So yeah that’s all I have to say on that.

SO:

Never let me go is a good show. Not amazing, but certainly not bad at all. They successfully created an entertaining and emotional show, that fell flat due to plot holes and rushed story telling. I wholeheartedly believe that if the writers had more run time, and more time to improve the script, the show would be amazing.

Please don’t be to harsh on it, all the actors did amazing and the show was a genuinely entertaining watch!!! Unnecessary hate in these reviews!

Second half fell flat

So I wrote this long review and accidentally refreshed the page, so I'm going to sum this up quicker.

This drama had potential. The main characters had great chemistry, and from the start the way Palm looked at Nueng set off fireworks. Where they went wrong was with trying to make a plot without fully committing. It didn't feel like organized crime, but instead just like some solo bad guys being shady. I feel they may have avoided actually going down that path because it would've had them acknowledge Nueng's father's involvement in those dynamics, but who knows.

I appreciated elements such as Chopper's redemption arc (but his begging for forgiveness in the hospital was horrific timing), Mam's growth (truly don't think her end got the weight it deserved), and Maggie (seriously, Maggie was not letting anything slide... BUT WHAT HAPPENED TO HER?! Literally fell from the planet after her visit to the hostel.)

I think the cast carried it for me, but what is making me consider dropping the rating even lower is one my most detested tropes -- deciding what your partner needs/wants without ever actually taking them into account or talking with them. Unfortunately, this drama had it happen not only once, but at least twice (in large ways, many more in smaller ones). The end also felt like deflated balloon after Palm did it, so I didn't even really feel committed to most of the last episode, which is sad because the beginning and middle actually really captured me.

I'll watch more dramas with the mains for sure, but this one was just okay for me.

THE SILLIEST script maybe, but the actors make it worth it

AN INCREDIBLY stupid script in nearly every of its plot moves.

But the actors save it, as well as overall production values besides the scriptwriting. Also, it is not boring, which is a major plus. it is much better to have silly stuff happening than nothing happening at all as in many other series.

So all in all it is worth to watch because the BL genre is not about scripts that make sense, it is about the lads, and those are great here. And Pond has played well after being wooden in his first due with Phu (Fish Upon The Sky, 2021).

But I do wish the series would not contain any tragic events at all. Because it all is so silly that the series would look much better as a self aware farce.

While it had its moments, I felt that it was missing something

I honestly binge watched this series because of Our Skyy 2, which premieres on Wednesday. The MC here will be the first couple. And...what I thought I was going to get, I felt that this series kind of fell short on.

I mean, the acting is good and the music is addictive. But the storyline wasn't presented properly as it felt choppy in certain parts. Also, some of the things that were happening just made me want to scream.

And then, unfortunately, I didn't click or feel something for nearly all of the characters. Only one character I can say that I really cared for and that was Palm's mom. She admitted that she was selfish, yet she still loved her son. Heck! She gave up her life for Palm and Neuengdiao. Also, I was getting a wee bit bored with those last three episodes. And then that ending for me? Yeah....personally I just wasn't feeling it.

My overall score is 6/10. And here's hoping the two special episode from Our Skyy 2 will make me fall for these characters .

I'm gonna be honest, but the second couple was the reason I able to finish this series.

Idk why, but I really hate Phuwin's acting, even since FUTS. I didn't even able to finish FUTS because of it. His acting is so unnatural and forced, all expression I could see from his face was only a grin... even when he supposed to act sad or angry. While Pond's acting was a lil bit bearable, still stiff af but at least I see he tried.

The contrast of the main couple vs second couple's acting is so damn obvious. Perth and Chimon acting seems so nice and natural. I skip a lot of PPW scene, and only invest on PC scene even until the final. The plot was quite nice, but the amount of plot holes.... I wish they can improve the script and the acting quality.

Not for me.

After watching We Are and Me and Thee I was curious to see more of PondPhuwin's work and this one has Perth in it who I adore and I was interested to see him acting without Santa. I watched two episodes and lost motivation to watch any more.
The episodes that I watched weren't bad, on the contrary it was an interesting enough story (albeit a bit depressing) with interesting characters, but I just could not find the motivation to sit down and keep watching this one. Truthfully, Slice of Life is my least favorite genre when I'm watching Thai BLs, the pacing always feels slow to me and there's a lot of talking in circles, so I'm not particularly surprised that I lost interest. And not to mention the slow burn romance, I'm sure when fixed ships were new this type of relationship building was still very enjoyable, but nowadays when we know that the main characters are going to end up in a relationship regardless of the situation drawing the romance out and having jealous characters/love triangles just feels pointless.
For someone who loves SoL this series will probably seem fantastic to them, but it isn't for me. Maybe one day I'll try again, but probably not any time soon.

Im disappointed!

Negative:

1. Unfortunately there were few kisses from the Maincouple PalmxNueng.
2. That would have been nice if the sidecouple ChopperxBen had already fallen in love with each other after the beginning and had come together.
3. Nuengs father and Palms Mother has been killed. I hate Chopper's father because he is a murderer.
5. That chopper could have done something earlier to stop his sick father. Then Nueng's father and Palm's mother would still be alive.
6. That PalmxNueng can see each other only 1 time a year just like in that dumb story Nueng read. Totally Stupid!!!
7. Palm didn't look so enamored with Nueng. I didn´t feel that very much. The acting that both love each other was unfortunately not so good.
8. First Nueng left a note for Palm. In the episodes after that, Palm did the same to Nueng. That was completely heartless. I thought they loved each other. But it didn't look like it. sad. They just hurt each other. A BIG Waste of time!!! :-/
9. The Maincouple after meeting each other didn´t start a new life on the island together with Palm's mother. That would have been very cool.
10. There was only one lovescene from the Maincouple.
11. Unfortunately, the Series implementation didn´t turn out so well.


Positive:

1. The Maincouple PalmxNueng.
2. I find it nice that Palm's mother has no problems with Gay Relationships. The same for Nueng's mother.

Mais um BL top para minha lista: quem me conhece já sabe que amo esse gênero! Uma boa produção, com um ship em alta (PondPhuwin) que são lindos, fofos e bons atores. Quando leio as críticas, sempre penso que o povo em geral compara as produções tailandesas com as megaproduções hollywoodianas, e não tem como comparar! Tem falhas na continuidade, personagens não finalizados que simplesmente sumiram da história...mas, pelo padrão do país, esta é sem dúvida uma produção muito boa. A OST trouxe músicas lindas, uma boa fotografia, alguns cenários naturais maravilhosos...enfim, tem falhas? Tem, mas eu amei e recomendo!

Sem spoilers!

O carro-chefe dessa série, sem dúvida alguma, é a belíssima fotografia. Acertaram perfeitamente na paleta de cores, um tom meio esverdeado e os amarelos bem evidenciados, que casaram bem com os cenários litorâneos. Ouso dizer que é uma das fotografias de BL tailandês mais bem trabalhada, par a par com a de "I told sunset about you". Se há um cuidado enorme com a montagem fotográfica, o mesmo não pode ser dito para o desenvolvimento do roteiro. A primeira parte do BL deixa bastante a desejar e a premissa inicial não é lá um de seus fortes - embora eu já ache louvável por não insistir demais no ambiente escolar. Contudo, acontece algumas coisas na segunda parte da trama que já dá uma guinada na história e ela se torna mais palatável. Só que, no final, repetiram um mesmo plot que já tinha ocorrido e fica claro que era só para preencher minutagem (teria outras quinhentas maneiras mais legais de ter terminado a trama e ter chegado ao mesmo ponto em que chegou). A atuação também, sobretudo a do Phuwin, não conseguiu me convencer bem, embora eu tenha gostado do personagem principal. A química dos protagonistas é boa, satisfatória, na verdade, mas não muito mais do que isso. Soma-se a isso umas lacunas (brigas sem sentido no meio que logo são resolvidas) e aí a graça vai se perdendo e a imersão na história também. Porém, os personagens secundários são bem interessantes, teve uma querida que eu amei muito, mas fora isso... mé.

Recomendo o BL para quem acha que já viu tudo que tinha que ver para só então ver esse aqui porque ele é bom, bem bom, na verdade, mas não mais do que isso.

This series was very well produced and extremely good, as sad as it is it is a series that hooks you from start to finish, and not to mention the fact that the actors have evolved a lot, they started very early in the industry and have always given their best ...
If you go to the gmmtv channel you will see the behind the scenes and you will fall in love more and more, there were SEVERAL scenes in which they improvised and it came out perfect, or when it was not in the script and several times they put the scene in the series... so in my opinion this series deserves much more recognition than many popular gmmtv series.
