little joy, a pinch of pain, and a WHOLE LOT of comfort ?
you know that deep, lingering longing you feel after finishing a really good kdrama? that's exactly what i'm feeling now, after ages! the characters, their connections – it all just got to me so fast.i'm not gonna lie, part of me is still annoyed that eungyeol couldn't stop the accident. watching someone as bright as leechan, who was his grandma's hope and the light of everyone's world, go through such pain is just heartbreaking.
but even with all that, this show's going to stick with me. it's like a glimpse into the youth i never got to experience.

Viva La Vida!!!
One of the best kdrama I've ever watched!! To be honest I was getting fed up with the recent kdramas and I was so into Cdramas. This is the kdrama I've watched after a loooong time. It's really amazing. The plot is amazing and the cast is amazing everything is perfect. Way more beyond the typical kdrama plot. Fiction but still feels amazing. gives good life lessons. You must watch it and it's not boring at all. It's a mixture of all the emotions. Happy, sad, angry, confuse, excite, disappointment, guilt, regret everything is there. Best Drama (Kdrama) I've watched in 2023!!Was this review helpful to you?

Refreshing Youth Drama
I was really curious about the hype this drama got and finally got to watch it after it was done airing and I get the hype. I laughed and cried at the same time. All the actors did such a great job and it just shows how you should really just try to enjoy your youth and not live for other people whether it eb your parents. I wish we could see more of the life they had after the time travel. The young actor of Ha Yi Chan is such a gem, I'm glad he's gaining more popularity, I first watched him in Racket Boys - which is another youth drama to watch, and he did well in his role. His chemistry with Chung A is top notch, their scenes are just so beautiful to watch. His chemistry with Ha Eun Gyeol as well is really fun and touching as well. Actor of Ha Eun Gyeol - I cannot even put into words but he also did justice to his role, and he needs to be recognized more! I cannot imagine other actors playing the roles of the younger version of them 4.
This drama is one of the few dramas I got to watch in less than a week!

Certainly not overrated as people believe it to be.
Twinkling Watermelon had a bit of everything. It was one of those dramas that would definitely stay with me for all my life. It had a lot of funny moments, it made me shed a lot of tears, but most importantly, it made me love and understand my parents a bit more. There were a lot of relationships that I was rooting for throughout the show, but my favourite was the father-son bond between yi chan and eun gyeol. The way despite his upbringing and lack of a father figure Ha Yi Chan became an ideal father to his sons, and how Eun Gyeon despite witnessing how childish yi chan was in the past went over and beyond to find a way to give yi chan the 'twinkling youth' he wanted for himself is absolutely heartwarming.I don't understand why people call this show overrated when there are plotless chichéd shows like My Demon and Marry My Husband rated so high. Many of the comments here compare the show to Weak Hero, maybe because of Hyun Wook. But as much as I liked Weak hero, it is no match to Twinkling Watermelon. Weak hero had a weak storyline (pun intended), it was character driven where the protagonist faces bullies, starting from highschool level to literal gangs. That's it. And yet there is hardly anyone calling it overrated with a 9.1. If this show was an action thriller, none would have a problem.
It is a youth drama with a simple plotline and some plot holes for sure, but the emotions and the message behind all the fun scenes are so deep that I believe all the action-maniacs fail to understand. It was a simple show for sure, but it had some of the most complex storylines and characters I've come across in any drama until now. Thrillers are easier to write, creating stories and character that touch your heart and make you root for them without the characters having some forced past trauma is hard. Twinkling Watermelon is not overrated. It is the second best kdrama I've watched in a long time, the first being Itaewon Class.
Despite all that rant, I understand there were tons of minor and major plotholes in the show. It's okay to have different opinions, it's okay to not like something. I've seen comments saying people rate this show based on their emotions, but it's that the main purpose of any show? If there is a story good enough that compels the audience to be irrational enough to ignore all the plotholes, I believe it definitely deserves a 10, because it's never about how good it is, and always about how it made you feel during and after.

Masterpiece
What can I say about this drama? Absolute perfection from start to finish. Storyline, Characters, Pacing, OSTs, Casting, Acting, Screenplay, Comedy all perfect. Not to mention the young age of the 4 lead actors and actresses. Brilliant performance by them. especially the deaf characters, to portray such emotions without making any sounds, making us the audience feel the emotion too, god damn they are good. Also promote sign how beautiful sign language is and I would love to learn it
Hopefully Twinkling Watermelon can receive more international recognition as I don't see a pot of international audience talking about this drama on social media

Easily climbed up my list of favourite dramas <3
I finished watching it just before writing this and tho I do want to write a better review, I can't seem to get my mind together and write what I feel at the moment (but I'm still writing it because I do not want to lose this feeling that I have after completing the drama, so idk if this will be helpful in any way).it's a drama I love very much. I didn't think it'd make its way to my heart when I didn't even finish watching it. but it did, wonderfully at that. and I don't regret watching it even while I've got tons of things to study 😭🥲.
the cast was amazing, they portrayed their role so well and the emotions were conveyed through the screen perfectly for me. especially when (spoilers) Eun Gyeol (Ryeoun) is fighting his dad in the earlier ep about wanting to join a band. damn, I could feel how frustrated and sad he must've been living a suffocated life where he has to be perfect so that people won't point fingers at his parents(this is my pov so you might disagree). also, Yoon Chung Ah's role was played perfectly by Shin Eun Soo. and of course Choi Hyun Wook and Seol in ah slayed. especially Seol in ah because she had to act out 2 people who look so similar yet they're so different when it comes to their personalities.
I wanted to see more of the ending when they go back to 2023 after resolving whatever they could've done in 1995. plus I wanted to see a short glimpse of Chung Ah finally going on that trip with her dad (I swear it made me so happy when I saw her dad use sign language to ask her about the trip, it was so lovely. he finally realised his mistakes then). Eun Gyeol might've not been able to change his father's destiny but at least he changed his mother's. and doing that changed his lifestyle in 2023 as well. whatever is meant to happen will happen so I'm just satisfied with how his mom's life changed. Though I'd be lying if I said I didn't hope that yi chan's accident didn't happen but I soon had to accept the fact that you cannot change everything that has happened back in the past. those ripple effects would've eventually led to a bigger effect later on in 2023 when he returned. I think it was a suitable ending in this case :')
that's it. Thank you to the people who made twinkling watermelon, they made the best decision ever! (now someone please gimme my own Ha Eun gyeol)

A not so objective rating, but an objective review
I’m rating this drama with a not so objective rating of 10 because it was really captivating, despite its imperfections. However, I would like to mention the things I didn’t like because I really hoped that some things would be different! First of all, I really really enjoyed the parents' storyline but wished for more scenes of them and a better conclusion, especially after what happened to Yi Chan. Additionally, I wasn’t as fond of the second couple's plot and the general story between Yi Chan and Se Kyung. I felt like Cheong Ah’s emotions for Yi Chan were so sincere that I would like if his emotions felt more developed and not so rushed. For me it was like he forgot Se Kyung in one day and he started to like Cheong Ah in this exact day also. Like before the big event he was fighting with Eun Gyeol for the same girl but they show us that at the same time he wanted to dedicate a song to Cheon Ah? I don’t know…And in the end I didn’t like that the present life of the family changed so drastically. But because I understand that if Cheon An was saved her life would be different I would like at least a more family moment in the present and not just a big event in which they couldn’t exchange more personal words with one another. That all!! I really hoped that I could at least change the last scenes !!! Maybe I need to read some fanfics!

Good Verry Good ! !
As someone who has only watched Korean dramas, I was hesitant when I first heard about this drama. The reason is because I didn't know much about Ryeo-woon and Shin Eun-soo. But when I started the drama, they trampled on my stupid thoughts hahaha There hasn't been a drama that made me cry like this recently. It's a great drama in every way. Be sure to watch it.You will gain a lot from watching this drama. There are so many scenes that I still can't get out of my head.
A cozy drama that made me feel so many emotions.

average time travel theme with feel-good to it
another " time travel to change your future" theme drama ... story was interesting in the beginning but arounf 7-8 episode it became somewhat slow and monotonous .. though the ending was okay ... half of the show has modern setting while the rest is somewhat retro ..or 90s theme .. characters were lively and contrasting.does it offers you anything new and refreshing .. ans is NO ..you can fairly predict the whole story line easily in the most initial episodes yet the feel good thing about this drama will make you to keep watching it till the last

Amazing. Zero Flaws!
Literally the best show??? I have no complaints except that I want MORE. Idk how they would do a season 2 but I adore this cast and they will hold a special place in my heart from now on.I went into this show expecting nothing to come out of it but I was able to catch up so quickly and waited like crazy every week.
The chemistry and the story was so heartwarming and I think the writers did an amazing job from start to end. I know a lot of people complained about the fact that Yi Chan still ended up in the accident but I think it comes to show how a lot of the experiences we have can be fated a lot of the times. It may be a bad experience but it developed his personality even more and that’s what I love about this show.
I truly recommend this show to EVERYBODY but especially to other teens as it shows how we should enjoy our moments because it will disappear so quickly and live life to the fullest. I don’t normally rewatch shows but I might rewatch this one. Much love to everyone who worked on this show!

A timeless masterpiece that transcends time
반짝이는 워터멜론TLDR: stop reading this and go watch, now.
Oh My goodness, this series has left me absolutely speechless and how.
I honestly don't think I can form the words to explain how much I loved this drama, but I will try because I am so glad that I gave it a chance. Each character was written exceptionally, and every actor did full justice to the assignment they received.
But the absolute stars of the show are without any doubts Ryeoun and Choi Hyun Wook, who play Eun Gyeol and Lee Chan as though that's who they actually are. I definitely was looking forward to see Choi Hyun-Wook's work after 25-21, but this kid has outdone himself. His character was so lovable and admirable in being enduring, charming, mature and youthful all at the same time! This was the first time I've seen any of Ryeoun's work and I am impressed. He was the worshipping son of Lee Chan through and through, who only wants the best for his mum and dad, and rightfully so.
What amazed me the most, though, was how three young characters still managed to strike off a parent and child chemistry?!?! It was probably a combination of marvel acting and character descriptions written with absolute perfection.
It very rarely happens that a drama doesn't have a single dull moment, and this show was one of those epic gems. I did not lose grip of the story for a single second. The actual premise of the plot is probably what did it for me - it was so beautiful: children often lose perspective of the fact that their parents were young once too and had their own hopes and dreams. The ability for us to see that perspective through the eyes of a child in this drama is beyond astounding.
The musical backdrop of the show only adds to the beauty and charm of it, and this one has made it to my all time favourite dramas up there with the likes of Reply 1988 and My beloved summer.
What left me gobsmacked about the drama was that it left us with the same desperation as Eun Gyeol to turn everything right for his parents, and I'd be surprised if there was a single person who didn't shed a shed a tear at the end of episode 15 - I was absolutely devastated 💔
But at the end of the day the narrative tied back to the reality that it often isn't the big things in life that change the course of our path, but rather the smallest of things that can completely alter our tracks.
This show will forever have a high rewatch value for me: with characters you will fall in love with, an OST that translates all emotions felt throughout the story into melody eloquently, and a plot that will leave you as immersed as the characters on screen, Twinkling Watermelon is without a doubt, a solid 10 for me. ✨️🫰🏼🍉💙
