The Princess Royal

度华年 ‧ Drama ‧ 2024

Both dramas flip the usual power setup in a fun way. The female leads are in charge; confident, influential, and fully in control; while the male leads have to find their place in their world. Instead of being dominant, the men are a bit playful, coy and soft as they try to win the women over. They don’t mind taking a backseat. If anything, they lean into it, craving attention, affection, and a little bit of pampering. This role reversal gives a light, refreshing feel that’s both cute and entertaining to the ruthless and aggressive manipulations, scheming and power struggles that come with these womens' positions.

They both involve time travel. While JFL is only for a moment back in time and TPR they travel back 20 years. Both involve the couple traveling back together. Both show a couple that had misgivings and who did not get along but later on they create a strong bond.

Both involve schemes in the court that can only be stopped because of the time travel to give the couple the edge.

Both have " married " leads from earlier in the drama. There is a difference in the actual marriage but they are seen as married.

Similar quality cdramas, scripts are well written. Zhang Ling He is lead in both dramas and both have a strong, independent FL. Both are a bit of a slow burn romance, but leads are pretty much in love and devoted to each other the whole time. Both have a a very equal relationship where leads are both powerful in their own ways and are partners working together. Princess Royal is more centered around political intrigue and maneuvering, where Pursuit of Jade is more slice of life in the first half and politics in second half. IF you enjoyed one would recommend the other, especially if you're a fan of Zhang Ling He!

If you like Jin Mai in AASOL, you will like her in TPR. She has that same natural style and sense of humor that you see in AASOL. The couples in both dramas have great chemistry.
