The episode is crazy, you can't help but fall in love with them, and it's also surprising that Alice has loved Pat for many years.

So the flashback shows Elis has liked Pat for 2 years, but he hasn't managed to change his playboys ways. In fact, he has Pat arrange his assignations which is awful if his feelings for Pat are sincere. I can only guess that he's still not done playing around. If I were Pat, I would leave. I want my self-esteem intact so I can pursue a relationship elsewhere.
