Lin Zhi Tao discovers that the children's "nanny" is actually their paternal grandmother, who was forced by Tu Huai Wei to hide her identity. The grandmother reveals that Tu Huai Wei had abused the children before, even fracturing Xiao Hu's arm. After Tu Huai Wei's arrest, Lin Zhi Tao and Bai En Yu, dressed as bears, help the traumatized Xiao Hua remember how Tu Huai Wei instructed the children to unbuckle their life jackets before throwing them into the water. During the trial, Tu Huai Wei denies everything, but Xiao Hua's testimony and additional evidence corner him. His partner, Yang Xiao Ying, initially protects him but later confesses after learning she had been deceived and that Tu Huai Wei planned to frame someone else. Tu Huai Wei and Yang Xiao Ying are found guilty of intentional homicide and sentenced to death.
