Great acting with nice ost

I rarely watch xianxia but The Unclouded Soul totally pulled me in! The moment Hongye first appeared, I could feel his pain right through the screen. Hou Minghao's micro-expressions are absolutely next-level - he conveys so much without even saying much. And don't get me started on Xiao Yao and that adorable green fluffy creature... my heart can't take how cute they are! Last but not least, i love the ost, already stuck in my head!🥺✨"

Very good when taking off

I have watched the full drama and enjoyed it very much. But first I had dropped it around the third episode because it looked too childish, and I thought the production had failed to precise it was addressed to a 4 to 12 years old audience. Then I had a second thought that such a great cast could reserve some good surprise later on, and so it happened. The drama really starts to take off after episode 10, becoming more mature and consistent,
and it keeps improving till the end.
In the beginning, it was too much in the context of a school of little hybrid animals and plant characters,
mistakenly called 'demons' when actually some are very nice and others really bad. Let's say they rather are 'nature spirits'.
Then the plot thickens and an excellent production finally emerges that I found good on every level. The leading actress Seven Tan is so fresh and funny, Neo Hou a real magic gentleman, and all around just beautiful, images, sound, and the story gets more and more interesting. Finally very recommended !

Could not feel connected with the characters emotions at all. Felt so dead and soulless.

This was one of my most anticipated dramas, but turned out to be such a let down...?.
The overall vibe: mildest c-drama plot I’ve ever seen, especially for this genre. It was really hard to continue watching, so I dropped it. I was pushing through with my willpower to watch 5 more episodes b/c I kept gas lighting myself that it would get better based on some other review, but it didn’t. And I just decided not to waste my time, since it got so boring and slow.

Story: the only somewhat decent plot at the beginning was the story with Bing Zhu and his sister, Tan’er. Hong Ye’s backstory is so overdone. I didn’t complete the drama so I never got to confirm if Ning an really was Xiao Yao. But I’ve never truly appreciated reincarnation plot lines.

I never felt the spark between the ML and FL. I’m not sure if it was the acting, but there was no chemistry. Honestly the acting was off for both leads. Since I know that Tan Song Sun and Hou Ming Hao are good actors based off the others dramas I watched, I was surprised. Firstly, Hong Ye seems to always have the same expression and his demeanor is always neutral. Which made it s hard to connect with the characters. I Never felt excited during the fight scenes or blushing in the “romantic” ones. Tan Song Yun’s character is meant to be childish but witty. She is both, and does both. But some people found her acting was not good enough or that she isn’t a good fit for historical/wuxia/xianxia c-dramas; I honestly blame this on the production team and the director. Whoever was the director probably made the final cut and was clearly okay with how Hou and Song Yun acted, even if it wasn’t the best.

There was nothing to root for. Everything felt cliche. The cliff fall scene ?. 10 episodes in, they haven’t done a good job at creating the central problem/villian. I can see that the emperor is an antagonist and that the hatred between the demons and humans is a problem. But idk, the way the plot was carried out wasn’t it. There were no stakes. No one was actively trying to bring the two sides together. If they’re setting up this plot that Xiao Yao will bring calamity bc of her identity, they didn’t do it well enough. How would she even do that?

and then there’s that self claimed immortal fairy too. will they involve the immortal world into the plot too? I think they should have chosen one strong plot line and developed it in depth.

Xiao Yao is supposed to be both demon and human. She has minimal talent for demonic arts, her fire technique can be a distraction at most. How would the world turn upside down for her?
They made her sound so special but didn’t create her character intricate enough.

Hong Ye’s character is honestly boring.
I could not connect with any of the characters on an emotional level, couldn’t feel their sadness or happiness.
Idk what they were trying with this drama, but it felt like a bunch of loose plots thrown into a pot, bad character building. Trying so hard to be complex but failing to focus in.

My review may have sounded vague, but I think they didn’t give us enough to review. Sry if what I wrote is just as half-a**ed as the drama. I’m dropping this drama b/c I feel no excitement in continuing, and honestly I wouldn’t even persevere for the actors ( I do love them though✌️).

Mixed Emotions but Worth Watching

I honestly don’t know where to begin with this drama. Seeing the rating drop from 8.4 to 7.8 truly broke my heart because I genuinely love both lead actors. Still, I can understand the reason behind it.

Some episodes are really engaging and pass by quickly, while others feel quite slow. Even then, skipping isn’t an option because you want to watch your favorite actors. Open endings are always difficult to process, and the ending in particular made me lower my rating to 8.

Personally, I don’t see this drama going above 8.2, and I believe the lower ratings are mainly due to the ending and the uneven pacing in certain episodes. That said, if you are planning to watch it, go ahead but be prepared to push through a few slow episodes.

Literal soulmates <3

MILD SPOILERS AHEAD !!!

This drama was only my second one that I have seen out of Hou Minghao's filmography, but I was once again blown away by how talented of an actor he is.

The chemistry between him and Tan Songyun felt very natural and not at all forced! The way that Hou Minghao is able to express so many emotions through just his eyes is insane. His character of Hong Ye is a composed and (in my opinion) calm demon king who is fiercely protective of his subjects in the Valley of Ten Demons. And although he is at first wary of Xiao Yao, he gradually warms up to her after seeing how holds no prejudice against demons and genuinely wants to help protect them.

The romance between them was so incredibly sweet and the emotional moments between them just hit so different! One of my absolute favorite moments they had together was when Hong Ye learned how to make the noodles from the noodle shop that Xiao Yao's father used to take her every year for her birthday. That scene was honestly so heartwarming! And the fact that he put in so much effort to perfectly recreate the noodle recipe was so touching <3

The ending absolutely destroyed me, and I definitely bawled my eyes out multiple times, but I also could see how beautiful it was and how they could possibly find a way to be together, even if it's not necessarily in the present lifetime. The past lifetime storyline in this drama WAS DEVASTATING, but also so incredibly beautiful! And I love the idea of their love spanning across lifetimes <3 I highly recommend this drama!

Why Change a Perfect Ending?

I really enjoyed this drama, especially its emotional story and character development. The journey of the female lead was meaningful, and seeing her grow stronger made everything more engaging.

Hong Ye was also a standout character, not only for his depth but also for his striking and captivating presence on screen.

However, I didn’t like the ending. The drama made it feel unclear and a bit tragic, which was disappointing.

In the original story, she doesn’t give up. She trains, becomes stronger, and eventually finds her way back to Hong Ye, choosing to stay with him forever in that dimension.

This version feels much more complete and satisfying. I really wish the drama had followed the original ending.

Such a beautiful story, I waited a whole year for this!

Hou Minghao... lemme just say.. I'm never ever disappointed in this man!!! He's so talented, his expressions makes you feel what he feels the second you notice a tear or a smile... he's a wonderful actor and great singer, I love his voice, I'm so glad I got to hear it in one of the eps today. He's so fine in every way!!! And I've always liked Tan Song Yun, she's really cute and funny in this and not annoying at all, she adapts so easy with the demons and understands them, she has a huge heart for every race... I love her and Neo's chemistry, it's so good. I'm so glad they work so well together!
As I watched, I hated the humans, and in ep 5, we see that Bingzhu has a very sad story. I can see why he is the way he is but I still don't like his ways and I think humans are awful but there is also that creepy face demon, whatever his name, hmm. I wonder who is behind all the evil, maybe they haven't shown up yet or they have and we didn't think anything of it. But all 5 eps are top notch, I enjoyed every bit of them. The story, the chemistry, the actors, the OTS, I have NO ISSUE with anything. I love the demons, the cats split personality, the adorable little green fluffballs, (I want one), the costumes, and, oh, the VISUALS ... The CGI is so beautiful!!! I love it all. I love all the characters. This is very fun, it's hilarious, and it is going to be emotional, I'm sure we are in for a rollercoaster but I think it'll be a fun ride! I can't wait for the next eps. This is truly an amazing drama. Well done, guys!!

Hooked

I started this series with trepidation, because I read a review somewhere it's not that great. But then started the series because I didn't have anything else to watch and also I like FL. Boy am I HOOKED! Hope the series keeps the excitement going and doesn't start stretching things unnecessarily like in many xianxia worlds based series.

Why the low rating?

I suppose out there in the ether dwell souls akin to mine that enjoy fantasy like this. Like "Miss the Dragon", I loved this quaint fairytale. The actors were pleasant and pleasing to watch. The demon slayer slayed his role; what a cutie. Was there filler? Did it drag a little bit? Yes, but less than in other dramas with jaw-dropping higher ratings.
It is kind of a one-time watch.
I liked it.

Its good, but i was disappointed

I don't usually write reviews cus usually im pretty spot on with the ratings for myself. If i expect it to be good its usually good (imo btw) and when its bad its bad. But this show disappointed me, I expected an 8.5-9 but this show ended up at an 8 specifically because of the story.

Don't get me wrong overall the show was great, acting great, quality is great, pacings not the best but still fine. But what annoyed me was the ending.

Considering the leads loved each other for 3 lifetimes and 2 of which hong ye dies by the hands of xiao yao, I felt there was no reason for them to have a tragic ending. Hong Ye dying the first time, atoning in his second life and by karma experienced betrayal by the hands of his loved one (ik xiao yao didnt have control but in terms of his pov) was more than enough of suffering for not just Hong Ye but also Xiao Yao.

The tragic ending I felt was unnecessary, and honestly it would've been better if either of them died or both died, but instead we have Hong Ye forever sealed and Xiao Yao going through a memory loop.

Eternal suffering and torture for both the leads, I think it's unnecessary especially after the 10000 years of suffering they both already endured.

In fact I think the supporting characters Bingzhu, Tan'er and Pian Pian had a far better ending and hence better story.

I'm overall still going to say its a good drama but I'm just disappointed and I think there was more potential for satisfaction.
