Leap Day Episode 9 Reactions
💔
Lets go to 3000 words! (Note from me in the future: Thankfully, it is only 2,219 words.)
Here are my predictions from last episode:
~ 2000 Flashback: As said in my last review, I am going to stop predicting this because it didn't happen in episode 9. Goodbye 2000 flashback prediction! You had a good run. You better not show up next episode!
~ Dream will not support Night: Yay! I got this one right. I was between her immediately not siding with him or being on the fence about it at first. It makes sense that she goes against this plan since she is very hopeful about ending the curse for once & for all and she cares about not hurting people. I didn't expect her to break up with him that fast though and for Night to accept it as long as she is safe. That is so romantic yet so evil! lol
~ Night will not die: I knew the episode 9 curse is not that strong! If he had died, I wonder what they will do in the remaining episodes. Personally, I don't think he will die, more like a close death. If someone had to die, I think it will be Professor Wiwat or Kit.
Lets go to the plot!
There are lots of turmoil in this episode! Night is just a common enemy here as he is having a rift between Day, between Dream, and even between Ozone, who he doesn't interact with much. He is also not BFFs with the professor, which I completely understand since the professor sucks at teaching. He keeps saying "wrong. Wrong. WRONG!" yet never saying what is wrong & how to fix it. I know that speed running a decade worth of medical education into 4 years is stressful, but it takes a minute to fix his mistake. I like the fact they introduced that Night only has 4 years of becoming a surgeon. I forgot about that lol I was thinking like ah 4 years is a lot of time for them to find a solution. With the sudden timeskip of a few months, my hopes are diminishing a bit for them as it looks like the gang didn't make progress yet. I read some comments where people think that Wiwat & Kit are leaving out information, which does explain the information gaps that I talked about in my last review. If so, I wonder why like does it reveals a secret they have. By the way, I don't blame Night for his decision. Before he met Day, he already lost all hope and now that he knows there is a 100% granted solution, he wants to take it. He doesn't want to put all his hope & energy on a solution that Day is looking for that is not 100% confirmed. Whether he does the transfer or not, people will still die, it is just a matter of if it is your loved ones or strangers. It is like the railroad question of would you kill 5 strangers or 1 loved one? The scenario is: If you are a railroad operator and a train is coming into the tracks, heading towards your loved one who is tied onto the tracks, would you let it be or do you pull the switch for the train to switch course onto the track that 5 complete strangers are tied onto? Less people will die if he choose not to transfer. I do not think he is evil or being 100% selfish. He is being a bit selfish, but how could he not as he don't want to leave that type of life anymore. Back in 2016, he almost took his own life. Even though Day & Night are both plagued by the same curse, their situations are different as Day was never alone and never had to witness people dying in front of him unlike Night.
By the way, what year are we in? I thought the January 13th, 2022 camera glitch was just the curse messing with the date or a foreshadowing tool, but someone told me it could be the actual date. If that is the case, how in the world did we skip 2 years in the span of 5 episodes? This better not be the case. Also, the pacing is off as things were happening so rapidly in the present, then suddenly we time skipped forward a few months with nothing happening. I heard that some people were complaining about GMMTV shows having 12 episodes, as it feels like GMMTV is stretching the plot of some shows too long. This show does feel like the plot is a bit stretched as I think in the past few episodes, the plot feels empty. I think it would have been in their best interest if they combined episodes, in order for the tension to be higher and the pace to be tighter. Maybe the sudden time skip would have felt better if it was after an action/tension-packed episode due to for better narrative momentum, emotional payoff, and pacing. This episode did have tension, but between the characters rather than between the characters & the plot. A sudden time skip makes the viewer think "that is sudden" and that is it, making the viewers feel disoriented rather than intrigued. Besides the pacing and the time skip, I like everything else. The action scene was also good and it looked natural. lol I was about to throw hands on Night if he punched Ozone. I mean I was about to throw hands on Night when he punched Day, but Day punched him back for me. By the way, I am glad this episode continued right after the last scene from episode 8 and that scene was just a dream, which explained why things were going so fast.
Everyone is stellar with their acting! Gun did amazing. I love his scene with the unconscious Dream. He is so good at portraying the sweetness in Ozone and the sternness in him when he stood up to Night for Day. As for Pond, he also did great. I just loved his angry scenes as he is great at portraying repressed anger. I am glad that Dream is awake as we get to watch Pahn act again. We rarely see the serious side of Dream and she did that well. I thought she did a good job of showing & closing the soft side to her that we normally see. When she was breaking up with Night, it was all serious, but when she tried to get him to join her, there is a bit of softness as she believes he will do it. Then, he said he is fine with them not being together as long as she is safe, which immediately shows all sadness & surprise in her face. Finally, Dew did amazing here! He did a great job of maniac laughing, which is hard to do since it is easy to look silly, but he scared me a bit lol. The desperation, fear, sadness, frustration, & hope that he had to displayed were done so perfectly! He also did a great job in transitioning between those emotions. Also, I want to mention Gandhi & Pod. Gandhi is great at giving an uncomfortable presence for his character. Pod is great at giving a creepy vibe for his character. If I was Wiwat's daughter in the car, all hairs including on my head would stand up straight.
Time to move onto the theories!
This is going to be very short as most of my theories have already been proven or disproven. There is still 1 theory besides my theory of how it will all end that is still standing. It is my 2008 shooter theory where I believe that professor Wiwat or Kit is the mall mass shooter that took the lives of Day's sister, Night's uncle, and 18 other victims. It is the only incident that involved strangers and the shooter was never found. My other reasons didn't hold up. One reason that I find silly, but is standing is that Day & Night ended the curse (maybe they first met on Leap Day) when they were young, but they didn't know it. However, Kit decided to reactivate the curse by taking things into his own hands as he is still suffering from it and he wanted to see if he can end the curse again as he didn't know how they first ended it. I am grasping straws here as Kit doesn't feel comfortable killing people, but who knows maybe it is a facade.
One thing that confused me is that the curse stopped coming after Dream & Ozone. Was it waiting for the older versions to meet with the newer versions? Does it have a bigger plan in store? Or was it a screenwriting error? At this point, we will probably time skip to 2024, maybe in episode 11 or episode 12. Hopefully, not next episode as it is way too soon for a major time skip, but I think we will time skip a bit in episode 10.
Lastly, part of me believes that Wiwat and/or Kit will die, but majority of me don't think so because I am a sucker for happy endings. If not, maybe the things that Wiwat did will come back to bite him. I have no clue on how to end the curse besides by putting the universe back in order/orbit. Maybe by destroying something or restoring something or standing in a certain order like in Ozone's drawing under the stars kind of like a human constellation. When I first saw Ozone's new drawing, I thought they would all die as I thought it was empty. However, it just added 2 new things to represent the older versions of Day & Night. I wonder why all of them are stars and not planets. By the way, two of the stars are in a different color. Does that mean two of them will die or it represents Dream & Ozone as they are not cursed?
Here are my predictions for the next episode:
~ Kit's Dark Side: I think Kit will sacrifice Ozone or make him do something dangerous. When I first watched it, the line "If you die, you will die trying" really stayed in my mind. Then, I realized that it also goes with the line of "This is why I needed Ozone in the first place". Both of these lines were said by Kit. He will probably suggest something dangerous to Day that Ozone should do in order to hear the stars longer or have more visions.
~ Someone (Night?) Is Hurt: At the end of the teaser, it looks like Ozone is having a vision of someone's looking at Dream, Ozone, Day, and Kit (I think) doing CPR from a hospital bed. Night is the only one not there, so I am assuming he is the one in the bed. I don't know if the scene will happen or it will just be a vision. I wonder if this is the vision that caused Kit to suggest his idea or it happens after he suggested it because Day agreed to see an extended version of that vision to see who is in the bed. The former makes more sense than the latter.
~ Night Switching Sides: There is a scene that looks like the 5 of them are teaming up against Wiwat. Maybe Night messed up during his first delivery and witness someone dying, which woke him up. There is also a scene where Night runs into Wiwat's house and it is empty (I think). Maybe Wiwat betrays him or he found out important information and can't find Wiwat.
~ 12:15 PM: At the very first second of the teaser, Dream solves Ozone's drawing as the star constellation looks like a certain time on a clock (12:15 (couldn't see the minute clearly and assumed it is PM)). Maybe that is the exact time the curse will happen (12:15PM).
Favorite Scene: Towel scene with Ozone & Day and Dream, Ozone, Day, & Kit working together at Kit's apartment
I gave this episode an 8.5 (specifically an 8.75). I am becoming a harsher rater now as we are getting near the end, so I am a bit critical on how we are approaching it. I took off points due to pacing, abrupt time skip, and information gaps. I added points due to the stellar acting. By the way, if those information gaps do get filled in later on, I will go back to this review and add points back, depending on how they revealed the information.
Finished just in time to rest & watch episode 10 later!
P.S. I am finally caught up! Woohoo!
P.S.S. I am writing this less than 24 hours when I finished watching it, so I might miss some stuff since I didn't have time to rewatch it.
P.S.S.S. My review for episode 10 might take me a couple of days since I need a bit of rest because I have been writing a lot (I find it fun though, not complaining). Also, I am behind on reviews for another show.
