Sui Ge angers his father when he accuses him of turning a blind eye to the Empress’ actions in trying to kill Yi Xiao. Sui Ge is removed as the secondary officiant in the Ancestral Ceremony and replaced by his younger brother, indicating Sui Ge is no longer favored by the Emperor. Knowing he’s upset, Yi Xiao takes Sui Ge to a place to help calm him and, in so doing, learns the story behind his mother’s death. Murong Yao and his father arrive to attend Xi Yang’s wedding, and though Murong Yao is to keep tabs on Jing Shi, Jing Shi suddenly disappears. (Source: frankly at MyDramaList)

Different Familial Bonds

After watching this episode, I realised the different types of familial bonds the characters have, especially between the fathers and their children. Firstly, the emperor and Feng Sui Ge. These two are always getting the wrong end of the stick whenever they meet, but deep down, I'm sure the father loves his son. Secondly, the emperor and the princess. In the emperor's eyes, Feng Xi Yang will always be the baby girl he's always loved and care for. Despite her ignorance and headstrong behaviour (which she's using it in the wrong way), the emperor father will never hate his only daughter, more so because she listens well to her elders. Lastly, we have a rare father-son relationship we don't usually see in historical C-dramas, especially in noble families. Murong Yao hurriedly approached his father who was soaking his feet in a medicinal water tub to carefully wipe his feet. It was endearing to watch such a close bond between a son and a father. Yao worrying and caring for his father's well-being and future was just like that of an innocent child who truly loves his parent~ These may not serve as a huge plot device for most, but somehow, seeing this warms my heart~ Wish to see more~ 🤗

Heartstrings of past and present come in threes

Feng Suige as a child has always been defiant towards the woman who cajoled him to simply call her "Mother". "Dream on" was all she received. When she now used that same approach to retrieve General Xun Xiang at Ning'an Hall, she received a reminder of what she could never obtain from the First Prince. Feng Suige's past is not the only flashback here. In pain, Xia Jingshi remembers what keeps him constrained and at the mercy of his brother. Memories can be water drowning you in painful sorrows, or something far better in euphoria. When dealing with bad memories or setbacks, what better gift to a friend than a suggestion of how to do so? Yixiao also gives Feng Suige a gift nobody has ever given him. Adrift on a lake surrounded by shimmering steadiness of more than a thousand lotus lanterns, Fu Yixiao and Feng Suige want to fulfill each other's wishes. The cinematography here is beautiful and wordlessly resonant to keep you spellbound on the edge of dreams, and the song used here is most apt. Murong Yao is his usual irascible self around Feng Suige. When Murong Yao goes to find Feng Suige, the chemistry between each of the three individuals is undeniably alluring and/or hilarious. Feng Suige is indulgent of Murong Yao -> Yixiao decides to break up the two ->Yixiao is adoring when she speaks to Feng Suige as her husband while cutting out Murong Yao -> Feng Suige is quick to pick up on her cues and adapts so seamlessly with verbal intimacy that one could mistake them for being long-married = Murong Yao has to concede these two are so mushy that he needs to leave the abode. We have three pairs of contrasts in the final ten minutes. Feng Suige and his younger brother are wonderful to watch together. Xia Jingshi and Wu Ying are also interesting to watch together, especially when Wu Ying shows fear of Xia Jingshi. Xiyang being filial towards her father reveals different endearing angles of a father and daughter. A token of affection, a symbol of protection, a promise of assurance, all portents of-
