Dealing with the locals and lack of support from company

Mr Seong finds himself set up to fail by both his boss wanting 1500 plants and the village chief who hates everything associated with his company. The locals have reason to despise the company’s efforts. The village chief has ordered that no one is allowed to help them in any manner. Mr Seong surprises some of them by using his own money to purchase items needed to irrigate the land. He has even ‘borrowed’ cow manure from a local to fertilize the land. His efforts are rewarded with a few cabbage sprouts. The boys have mixed feelings about the school. The youngest is willing to try new things. The middle son is wrapped up pining for a girl who has already moved on and is a lazy spoiled brat. He is a case of underutilized potential. The oldest is still hiding out not telling his parents he’s dropped out of school. He has found his way to the school cafeteria under pretense of looking out for his brothers when he’s really all about working with the pretty local girl. The wife is trying to get an in with the women’s association after turning them down initially. The chief’s wife is all about making it difficult for her because they all hate the company. She has collapsed at the coffee shop with a panic attack and the ladies are at least trying to help her some. I love the hardware store guy. He is so kind by nature, that when Mr Seong used his own money to pay for stuff, he snuck back later to help him fix things and set up the baby plant nursery. His assist has given Mr Seong his few moments of triumph. The middle son has grabbed his and little brother’s passport and plans on heading back to Toronto. The episode ends with the oldest telling dad that the two brothers are missing. I enjoyed the dynamics in this episode. There is reason for mistrust from the locals but the chief’s antics are rather meanspirited. His bosses at the company do not want him to succeed, but we really don’t know why yet. His boss makes diabolical demands with no backing for the exiled employee. The Seong family find themselves all together for the first time in a long while. They are getting reacquainted and adjusting to a very different pace and lifestyle than they are accustomed to. I find myself not so amused with the juvenile faces and actions of the village chief, but I like the little old ladies, the hardware guy, and the youngest son. They are my favorite characters so far. The comedy is a bit over the top for me, but what I appreciate is the underlying efforts and interactions to succeed in a very different environment. The locals testing to see if city people are capable of farming the land and the city people learning to appreciate a simpler life with closer family ties.
