Ma Yong Zhen

Ma Yong Zhen (simplified: 马永贞, traditional: 馬永貞 ) (1840-1879) is a famous character in Chinese history, who became the hero of many films and TV series. Yong Zhen was originally an idealistic country boy who came to Shanghai, where he got involved with the mafia and eventually "turned to the dark side", becoming a famous gangster (although he did not forget his roots and continued to care for the poor even after his rise to the top criminal world). He died during an ambush by his enemies in a tea shop that belonged to him.
