Every Korean or Other Asian Drama I Watched in 2021

This is the place where I rate and review every drama that I saw in the year of 2021. It's basically my diary of feelings about (Korean) dramas. It's important to know that there can be a few entries full with spoilers  since this list is mainly for myself anyway. Furthermore, most of the dramas I watch are K-dramas, but you might see a random Taiwanese, Chinese, Japanese, or Thai drama here and there.

This is also the year I became one Asian drama hermit and vigorously lived off them. There's truly no hope left, my life resolves around K-dramas. I'm like Western media who???

  • My Sweet Dear

    101. My Sweet Dear

    Korean Drama - 2021, 8 episodes

    6.0

Why are Korean BL's so obsessed with cooking? This is like the third one that involves cooking and restaurants.

If I have to hear the song baby boo one more time I will throw up. I'm literally traumatised now.

My brother who watched an episode with me brought up a good question. Why didn't the owner just fire the first chef instead of coming up with this while scheme. Honestly that's a good question. I guess this drama doesn't make a lot of sense. But lol there wouldn't be any plot without it though.

That ferris wheel music box thingy just literally played a christmad song. I'm dead..... Lol it is actually a Christmas ferris wheel. I'm even more dead now, lol.

It is always so cringe when this dramas end up saying their title. Asfjudased I can't even

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGHHHHH IT'S THE BABY BOO SONG AGAIN. NOOOOOOOO!

Honestly, the uncanny counter oppa deserved better. Not only did he deserve a better BL drama (his acting was still good, just like his significant other), but he also deserved a better partner.

  • Hellbound

    102. Hellbound

    Korean Drama - 2021, 6 episodes

    6.0

I'm watching Hellbound and no idea how I feel about it yet. It's just so weird

I really really really can't stand that arrowhead livestreamer with all his glow in the dark face paint and a skull on his head. He's really fucking annoying.

Woaw I did not expect Yoo Ah In to die not even halfway through the series. I thought he was supposed to be the main character.

You can truly see hellbound is made by the person who made train to Busan & peninsula.

I truly hate that mother of the baby HOW CAN YOU HONESTLY THINK AN INFANT, A NEWBORN BABY IS AN EVIL SINNER? HOW CAN THAT COME ACROSS YOUR MIND? MY FIRST INSTINCT AND REACTION WOULD BE LIKE THIS IS UNFAIR, NO WAY A BABY CAN BE EVIL OR A SINNER. THIS ISN'T RIGHT. I really hate her.

Lawyer woman is a kickass lady though.

What a fucking moron that mother is. She's lowkey on my list of characters I hated most this year.

OMG WOW OMO! Annoying livestreamer received the decree as well. Damn.... that's kind of full circle. Oh wait he's world's biggest asshole.

Okay, I take it back. The mother really had a redemption arc and both she & her husband protected the baby.

Oh my god no..... not again some kind of zombies. Seriously what is that ending?

I have a love-hate relationship with Hellbound and I have no idea how to rate this.

  • Delivery

    103. Delivery

    Korean Drama - 2021, 8 episodes

    7.0

I'm watching the weirdest webdrama with miyeon from gidle and suddenly there's the plot of a chicken cult, lol. This has me like wot... Yupp you read that right, a cult that worships fried chicken

Lol, the mukbang cameo of a famous mukbang YouTuber was too funny.

First a chicken cult and now ancient aliens that turned into chickens, but also fried chicken that turns humans into zombies. Wooooot.....

That red suit looks so good on miyeon.

Loooooool, radish as the vaccine against the chicken zombie effect. This is so random and funny.

It's overall a very fun but weird webdrama. If you're looking for something unique this is definitely what you're looking for.

  • Definitely Not Today

    104. Definitely Not Today

    Chinese Drama - 2021, 8 episodes

    8.0

I can only describe definitely not today as the Chinese version of the Netflix show The End of the Fucking World. Both shows were really good.

Can we also talk about the fact that A SHORT CDRAMA EXISTS OUT THERE? Cause damn it only having eight episodes that are all around twenty minutes long had me shook. I'm still shocked till this day.

  • Youth of May

    105. Youth of May

    Korean Drama - 2021, 12 episodes

    9.0

I need help... I'm watching the saddest of saddest of sad kdrama and nothing sad is happening at the moment but I'm so anxious. Oh and I'm literally crying because I know something sad is gonna happen without actually anything sad currently happening, lol. I'M ALREADY CRYING FOR THE ANTICIPATED SADNESS :') Because I'm watching youth of May, which truly should have been called ANXIETY OF MAY. Because that's how I feel. I'm literally ageing years from all the stress.

WHY AM I CRYING??? The leads are just sitting on afucking bench and some flower petals are falling and here I am crying like a baby.

I'm also not minding at all that they played siblings in sweet home & are now lovers. I remember how off putting it was and how I had to get used to the fault in our stars since the actors played/were siblings before they were/played a couple. And here I'm like LALALALA DON'T CARE **still need therapy lalala therapy**

Also I've decided I'm gonna watch youth of may before I'll see my Roommate is a Gumiho so I get that amazing fun pick me up after depression anxiety. I managed not to cry this time though even though I came close, but I held it in.

I was like hey I could watch Youth of May when I was procrastinating watching the finale of My Roommate is a Gumiho because of feelings. But then I had the sudden realisation: OH WAIT THAT'S FUCKING SAD AS WELL

I will finish watching Youth of May because I hope that it will get better. All I feel now is boredom and it's pretty slow. I literally had to play with lucky to get through this episode. The ending shot of this episode was pretty though.

  • Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha

    106. Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha

    Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes

    9.0

Some people are soooo bitter about Hometown Cha Cha Cha mann. And then there's me who has only seen 1 episode so far but knows it will be a 9 or a 10, lol. Apparently there's no interesting plot or compelling characters, meh romance, no villain, tooo many episodes so too long (which I absolutely don't agree with).

*me talking to my friends about it since they've en it as well and are wondering how I avoided spoilers* I have avoided spoilers for it really well. I only know there's something about a baby/kid and a wedding. Why does this sound like his "scandal" that was fake (JUSTICE FOR THIS PRECIOUS PUPPY).

I am just gonna binge watch some cha cha cha to cure my youth of May depression.

Hometown cha cha cha is sooooo cute. Instant serotonin.

I'm now at episode 5 and this is just pure happiness.

Apparently dramas set in small towns are my shit because I'm like loving the shit out of this and it's like the 3rd or 4th show I've seen that takes in a small village that I'm loving. It's sooo healing.

I dunno if it's just me BUT OMG WHY DOES SHE KEEP WEARING SUCH HORRIBLE UGLY OUTFITS IN CHA CHA CHA!!! WHO ARE THOSE STYLISTS!?!? AND HOW CAN I FIRE THEM!! HOW CAN HER OUTFITS EVEN GET WORSE?

OMG NOOOOOOOOO!! You don't scream or run at your oppa like that. Ju-ri why u screaming at your kpop idol like that. Whaeeeee..... I feel so bad for idols or any artist who receives treatment like that. Looool if I would meet famous people like that randomly and loooove them I probably would say or do nothing at all. He was sooo kind though.

  • Bite Sisters

    107. Bite Sisters

    Korean Drama - 2021, 10 episodes

    8.0

Omggg, two of my favorite drama ladies of this year are in it (River Where the Moon Rises & my Roommate is a Gumiho unnie). I'm honestly too gay for both of them. They are just sooo pretty.

How could an ad be this good?

I think I do prefer Handmade Love over Bite Sisters since I felt that Handmade Love wrapped up neatly as in all loose ends were tied, where as in Bite Sisters I needed more. There are still a few loose ends or questions left unanswered, which I would have preferred not to be the case. It's still really good and entertaining. Truly one of the best drama ads I've seen so far. The whole atmosphere and the fashion was to die for. I also really liked the cinematography. Those blood lollipops just looked absolutely stunning.

I honestly want more of it.

  • One the Woman

    108. One the Woman

    Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes

    8.0

I might watch the fiery priest now since I'm watching one the woman (& loving it) and now I'm just on the honey lee hype train so I was like gotta see more of her work when I found out she's the fl of fiery priest. So suddenly I was like oeh I kinda wanna watch it now. Her comedy is just top notch. She's fucking hilarious. This show was honestly one of the funniest shit I've ever seen and Honey Lee is now my queen. I literally wanted to marry her character. She was just such a mood, badass, funny as fuck, one cool chick, and someone you should not fuck with. Ugh nothing but love for my woman. She truly was the heart of the show. Honey Lee literally carried the whole show on her back.

  • Kieta Hatsukoi

    109. Kieta Hatsukoi

    Japanese Drama - 2021, 10 episodes

    9.0

I'm just casually crying about the cutest LGBTQ+ Japanese show. They're really hitting all the nails.

The main guy is such a cutie relatable awkward cupcake. He's such a mood and him freaking out about all kinds of stuff and being super dramatic is just so funny. He's really that anxious little puppy that overthinks everything.

When both him and his best female friend thought they liked the same person, she reacted soo amazing. She literally was like LET'S GUSH ABOUT OUR MUTUAL CRUSH. She didn't even bat her eye when his crush was a guy.

His male best friend initially was like I didn't know you were like that and the moment he said that he was like at this moment he knew he fucked up. But baby Aoki was like yeah isn't it kind of weird that I like a guy, which had the male best friend like OMG NOOOO IT IS TOTALLY OKAY. He was just surprised but supported him immediately.

Besides, the love interest is the most precious thoughtful person ever.

Also, Aoki was getting tutored by like a University student that was like an aid to his class. They were getting along very well until the tutor saw Aoki holding hands with Ida, his boyfriend/love interest. So he then was like OMG AOKI MUST LIKE ME BECAUSE EVERYONE WHO IS IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH SOMEONE OF THE SAME SEX/GENDER MUST BE INTO EVERYONE OF THE SAME GENDER. He suddenly acted different and was saying all kinds of bullshit such as I'm not like that, which already had all of Aoki's friends and his boyfriend hella mad. But that tutor went even further when he saw Aoki giving directions to an older man to his hotel, for which the old man wanted to compensate him, which had the tutor like AOKI DON'T SELL YOUR BODY LIKE THAT.

Gong Yoo loves to play characters that die, lol.

Whooohooo one of the Netflix k-drama productions of 2021 that I actually loved. It might be my favorite Netflix made drama of the year after move to heaven. I sincerely hope we're getting more Korean scifi.

Also, I can't really voice why I love it I just do. I mean the cinematography was gorgeous, the acting was splendid, and the story just grippede. I'm really happy that the doctor and Bae Doona's character survived.

Still sad that Soochan my baby died. It's even sadder if you think how soon he dropped dead compared to the others. At least the brothers are reunited now.

Besides, Luna truly stole my heart. I would have died for her as well. Precious vicious but very sweet cupcake.
