Dramas/Movies That Have Made Me Ugly Cry

These dramas.... This list is a mix of Korean, Japanese and Thai in no specific order other than when I watched them. I must admit I am not a fan of angst - it breaks my heart - and I always want a happily ever after. Sometimes that is just not in the cards but I loved these all the same, regardless of outcome. This list will continue to evolve as I am continuing to watch new series. I will admit, I have been known to drop a series if the ending doesn't wrap up nicely.

This drama was both beautiful and hearbreaking. We are thrown a sucker punch that elicited some serious tears and I felt like the wind was knocked out of me. The cinematography is beautiful and the OST was perfect.

This drama was one of the best I have ever watched. Satoh Tekeru and Mitsushima Hikari have fantastic chemistry. The actors that play their high school versions, Yagi Rikako and Kido Taisei were equally compelling. This was a beautiful love story that was told in both the past and the present concurrently.

I loved Satoh Takeru in Koi wa Tsuzuku yo Doko Made mo (2020) - Love Lasts Forever. However, I felt that the FL was miscast with Kamishiraishi Mone whom I am not enamored with like many other are. She is just a meh.  He was also great in Hanbun Aoi, 2018.

  • Until We Meet Again

If you are looking for a smexy BL drama this is not the one for you. It is bittersweet and poignant. There is little in the way of skinship between Dean and Pharm. It is more of a sweet, gentle first love. The Korn and In story is breathtakingly heartbreaking - in the late 80's they had the world against their love, expecially in a country that still has not legalized same sex marriage and their are no legal protections for same sex relationships. I admire the In character and his firm belief that their love wold be enough to overcome these hurdles.

I am crying just posting this. I am completely vested in these ficticious couples even knowling the tragic ending for Korn and In.
