    Chinese Movie - 2019

    9.5

Lawddd yall … this is what I call cinema!! Great story and definitely an important issue covered. That mid point of the film def got a tear out of me … it was so unfair. Also the silent crying toward the end was another point to get the waterworks going. BUT WAIT THE END AHHH THATS REWATCH MATERIAL. FUCK THE BULLIES I HATE YOUUUU. They made my blood boil.. guess that means they were acting great LOL. Which brings me to what else I loved…. THE ACTINGGG. Jackson Yee lowkey disappears in this role his range is crazy. Also the FL like damn she really had me feeling for her she’s an amazing actress. I loved the score and cinematography too, def was worthy of that international movie nom at the Oscar’s that year. Definitely have to rewatch with someone else cause this was just too good.

  • Big World

    2. Big World

    Chinese Movie - 2024

    9.0

2 stars for grandma and 2 1/2 stars for Jackson Yee’s performance !! Def had me tear up at points … like that stuffing scene y'all .. my heart fucking broke *cries* F the mom fr I lowkey hated her with a passion !!!! She doesn’t get redemption in my opinion. Grandma a real one, do rec this film. It is a tearjerker film that definitely show's the unfortunate real experiences of those with cerebal palsy.

  • Time Still Turns the Pages

    3. Time Still Turns the Pages

    Hong Kong Movie - 2023

    9.0

So.. this was recommended to me to watch by my friend on here Tah… first of all ... this is pretty depressing (my fav movie genre tho LOL). As I do when watching films by myself, I start thinking of theories/ ways I think things are gonna go.. and to my surprise I did call out the plot twist once, but it still got me to tear up. In a way I didn’t want it to be true cause again .. it’s depressing and unfortunate. There are aspects of this film I can relate to, and aspects that even though I haven’t experienced, still were enough to have the tears flowing. This is a very raw film. I also loved the score, will be adding those to my playlist. First film from Hong Kong (and in the Cantonese language) I’ve seen, and definitely have to go down the rabbit hole. Going to sit and think about this for a while..

  • Resurrection

    4. Resurrection

    Chinese Movie - 2025

    8.5

So first I’ll say.. that fucking score and cinematography is amazing.  Literally one of the best visually stunning films I’ve ever seen. I wish I would have been able to watch this in one sitting, but it is very slow until about an hour in. At first I watched with the most confusing subs, but I made sure to rewatch that first hour with better ones and things made more sense. I really loved the cinema aspect of the film, and the meaning of this film clicked for me in the last second … lowkey kinda got a mini tear out of me. Jackson Yee lowkey is amazing as always.. taking on 5 different characters through these dreams. I definitely want to look up an analysis for this film cause I think there were aspects of the dreams that flew over my head. I also could see myself rewatching with the meaning in mind. I think this is worth the watch if you love cinema, and have patience. Saw someone say that the first 20 mins sucked and I’m literally ? Like what because I thought those first 20 mins were really stunning visually especially with that one shot and set design. I picked up that it was giving tribute to silent film.. guess others didn’t? Anyways I’m gonna go think about this film in my dreams LOL If I rewatch I’ll prob rate higher. Oh and lastly, wish I could’ve experienced this in theatres. Like just experiencing that cinematography + meaning + score in theatres would’ve hit harder

  • A Little Red Flower

    5. A Little Red Flower

    Chinese Movie - 2020

    8.5

No cause that father son scene got me. .. that shit was heartbreaking. And don’t even get me started on that one father sitting outside the hospital … yall put that shit in there to make me BALLLL CRYING..  :/ ur done. OST was pretty good. Loved the cinematography and acting of course as well. Definitely recommend.

  • Viva La Vida

    6. Viva La Vida

    Chinese Movie - 2024

    8.5

Literally like 5 mins in I told myself this reminds me a little bit of the film A Little Red Flower (in the sense it has the same dad, and just the film style and themes) andddd what would you know…. same director.. I’m good at this LOL This film wastes no time getting right into it.. You are literally thrown into the daily life of a woman with kidney disease and who is on dialysis. It’s lowkey very sad, and def will admit I shed some tears.. loved the clips during the credits, it made this film feel even more real. I recommend to watch this, and I think Han Yan (the director) touches on the subject of illness really well in his films. Hope he continues to tell these stories <3

  • Lighting Up the Stars

    7. Lighting Up the Stars

    Chinese Movie - 2022

    8.5

Very cute and wholesome film. Found out about this through Instagram.. and I can def say this got a tear out of me... I enjoyed this and do rec. Great performances, especially from the little girl (can you believe this was her debut film??). I also really liked the ending which gives a certain someone a second chance. I thought that was nice considering what she had been through herself.

  • The Longest Day in Chang'an

    8. The Longest Day in Chang'an

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 48 episodes

    8.0

So first I’ll start off by saying this was my first time watching a Chinese costume drama, and a drama this long (48 eps). I’ll start with what I loved, the ost of this drama is really great. The cinematography and acting is very good too, I really hated the people I was supposed to hate and loved the people there was to love LOL I finished this drama in 10 days… that’s how you know this shit had me hooked. Although I was binging binging binging, it sort of took a halt around ep 35/36. For me, this is where storylines started to drag and we were focusing on shit lowkey that was irrelevant (we had some action here and there but it was outshined by this). Especially one ep that is around there which is best defined as a filler because it’s literally a whole flashback the whole ep. I was getting pissed at lowkey everyone for not letting Li Bi just handle this shit himself… bro let him cook he got it fuck. The writing to me toward the end felt a little rushed. I was preparing for the worst tbh, but when I actually saw the ending i accepted it. It’s a fair ending for all the high blood pressure I had from watching this LOL working me up… I do think we could’ve actually seen these things play out rather than just telling us about it… would one more ep really have hurt to have? Last ep was only 30 mins.. I was like how tf are we wrapping everything up LOL but they somehow did. I’ve been on a Jackson Yee binge and it’s been amazing seeing him grow as an actor backwards LOL Recently saw an interview where he said that it was this drama where he truly fell in love with acting, and I can see it emerging, he’s grown a lot since then.

  • Mumu

    9. Mumu

    Chinese Movie - 2025

    8.0

I enjoyed this film. I’ve never seen LAY act before (only seen his idol and street dance china stuff), and I felt he really became someone else. Def made me tear up toward the end. One thought I had throughout the film was if the characters who were deaf were actually deaf, and I find it really nice that they were. I really loved the montage toward the end showing the accomplishments they’ve made in real life. It also was nice to see lives of ordinary Chinese deaf people as well. Love the OST def adding some of those to my fav scores playlist. Def recommend!

  • Nice View

    10. Nice View

    Chinese Movie - 2022

    8.0

Great film about perseverance. Multiple times where I really felt for Jing Hao.. he really was doing everything for his sister with like no help basically most of the time. Very heartbreaking to watch. But, I really enjoyed the happy moments in this film. It was like a breath of fresh air from the “trying to make ends meet” feeling. There were moments that my jaw dropped cause I was like… why tf are you doing that LOL I was prepping for the worst in some scenes, but it turned out okay .. maybe not in the moment but it did pay off. Do recommend for motivation.
