10/10 drama and 10/10 novel. I loved most of the changes the drama made from the novel. The novel was great but overall a lot sadder in comparison.

The novel was a 10/10, so much better than the drama. The drama has so much censorship that most of the significant relationships were cut short or are nonexistent. The alternate ending chapter with Jiaxue and Yinning's HEA in a universe she didn't die in was the BEST.

(For anyone with SLS for Jiaxue in the drama (even though their storylines are completely different), just read their HEA in the last chapter).

I read this to essentially find out more about the first life of Xie Wei and Xuening. The novel delves a little bit more into their first life, especially after Xuening dies. The novel is a lot more political, as is the drama, but the romance is bigger in the drama simply because of the chemistry between the main actors. The same scenes in the novel don't hit the same as it does in the drama because the romance storyline starts really late, whilst in the drma even though this story starts late, you can see the romantic chemistry throughout.

I preferred the non-censored dynamic between the main leads and their parent in the novel over their relationships in the drama. The parents don't deserve any forgiveness, nor do they want it.

I waited years for CS to finally play RM's ML so I decided to read the novel.

I found out 50 chapters in that the ML is the FATHER of the man the FL had a crush on, I almost dropped it, then I thought Id just skim through it (I ended up reading most of it properly). He comes in at chapter 141 and I surprisingly shipped them almost immediately after he comes in and I wasn't disappointed. The story doesn't drag despite being about 350 chapters long, the romance isn't dragged and there's not really any drama in relation to the romance between the main characters. No cheating (at all), this man was faithful and dependable and perfect for the FL.

They are SO TOXIC. I was not expecting it to be that toxic and for THAT long (6 YEARS). She finally leaves him, and it was right before she leaves everything behind that he realises he's in love with her and wants to marry her and everything, but right as he was about to tell her he finds out she left. After she leaves he does nothing, they sort of run into each other after 4 years and then they slowly get back together using the excuse of her dog.

Two things HAVE to be in the drama adaption, her dog and her roommates, especially the male roommate. I kind of hope the time frame is shorter, they wasted 10 years ?.

I LOVED this novel, haven't watched the drama yet but from I've seen they changed EVERYTHING. They were so cute in the novel, we got to see them get together and be together right up until they die of old age (which has me crying). They both died around the same age but because of their age gap it was about 9 years apart.

I read the novel to read the HEA of the main leads after the terrible drama ending. Instead I ended up HATING the ML so much, I did not want a HEA for him.

In the drama adaption they kept the FL the same as in the novel, but they changed everything about the ML, making him a genuinely good person who is somehow controlled but this demon. In the novel he is the voice in his head from the drama, he is truly evil and the FL does everything to make him good and is always RIGHTFULLY suspicious of him. In the drama she is the same but because he doesn't do anything she is wrongfully suspicious of the ML and he is more of a victim (which he is not in the novel).

They changed him so much that the FL seems more cruel and evil than the ML.

This novel dragged so much, 449 chapters, and at least 100 of these chapters were just a repeat of the same really annoying sub-plot that keeps being brought up again (Hint: a sub-plot expected in a Chinese story where the ML is a Prince/Crown Prince). The drama isn't very long, so it would likely not drag and will go through all of the good parts of the novel without repeating any subplots.

(This is the only novel on this list I found to be a pain to finish. It started great, but dragged too much.

I loved the dynamic of the main characters and XL with his servant/friends. XL goes through hell, he is tortured so much both emotionally and physically causing him to loose his friends/servants. I wish his friends/servants knew what he went through.

The least favourite danmei I've read. I just don't like the way it was written, it kept going back and forth in time. An interesting plot point would start in the present (within the first few chapters of the volume) and then the rest of the volume of the novel would be a flashback, and then there might be another present scene then immediately a long flashback. I just hated how it kept going back and forth but I loved how the drama showed everything in chronological order after a short flashback of WY dying in the beginning.

Was not a fan of the novel. I only read it because I was watching the drama ongoing and needed to know what will happen next. The main leads dynamic in the novel was weird and the ML gave me the ick.

On Chapter 50 - It got boring after like 30 chapters ?

It was extremely short, the chapters themselves were really short. It was a very quick story, I love how the drama added a lot more to the story, but the beginning is the same as the drama.
