My Top K-Dramas

Can my reason just be Choi Kang Hee? No? Good, because she wasn't the only reason, although her performance is astounding. 

This is a rare drama where the lead is maybe not-so-fashionable, but yet the story never leans towards the typical played out 'She's All That' scenario where she puts on a dress and everyone falls in love with her. No, in fact, everyone in this show loves Seol Ok for who she is. From the puppy-like Chief Hong's obvious crush on her, to Detective Ha's magnetic pull to her,  to Inspector Woo's immediate interest in her, to her best friend's utter devotion to her, and - Seol Ok is clearly (to everyone but herself and her husband/in-laws) an incredibly special woman. 

This drama is funny - spit-takingly so at times. There's action. There's the mystery/flashback plot going on behind the scenes. There's family troubles and family bonding. There's a lunchbox shop! And there's so much love between our two main characters that they might be my favorite K-drama couple (of detectives...!) of all time. 

In my opinion, the ending plays out perfectly. Yes, once you realize that the producers were banking on a Season 2, it makes a little more sense... but personally, I loved it even before I knew. There is so much potential for Seol Ok's life going forward, whether we get to see it or not. I'm actually nervous about the upcoming Season 2... our two main characters will reprise their roles (otherwise what would be the point?) but we're losing the director who made magic shooting the scenes in this show, and - sob - we're losing puppy Chief Hong. If the ensemble cast keeps dropping off, I don't know how well they'll do with a second season... but I have to find out!
