Based on a Novel

When it comes to dramas there are many that are based on a novel and when someone goes and adapts it you can't help but compare. These are some drama's that are based novel,  where I've read the source material and watched the drama.

  • Eternal Love

    1. Eternal Love

    Chinese Drama - 2017, 58 episodes

    9.0

Novel: Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms

I went through quite the journey with this one, I first read the novel in 2016, later I  read the manhua, didn’t notice it was the same story until page three, and then earlier this year while looking for music on QQ, I came across the OST  but it wasn’t until a couple weeks ago when I stumbled across the drama on youtube did I watch it breaking my drama sobriety ( I haven’t watched a drama since Heirs was airing)

As you can see, this story and I are fated lol

Well in regards to the novel, the drama was quite true to the source material even more so than the manhua lol. There’s no need for me to say how great this drama was but I truly felt that story was brought to life very well and held the same magic and emotions conveyed in the original.

But I didn’t read the pillow book which is Dong Hua and Feng Jiu’s story, so don’t know about them.

  • The Princess Wei Young

    2. The Princess Wei Young

    Chinese Drama - 2016, 54 episodes

    8.5

    Novel: The Princess Wei Yang

After Eternal Love, I was hungry for more but was at a lost until this popped up in recommendations on the youtube sidebar.  I recognised the name as the novel I recently dropped lol.

wow, this was the complete opposite of Eternal Love when it comes to following source material. The biggest changes were the removal of the reincarnation of the main character and instead made her a lost princess assuming another’s identity. Also male lead was Tuoba Jun instead of the cousin. In the original novel, Tuoba Jun character kinda goes kinda crazy in his love for the MC like murder-suicide crazy, and the MC falls for the cousin instead.

Surprisingly I actually preferred the Drama narrative. The initial out for revenge vibe was quite similar but about halfway into the drama where it becomes more political intrigue. Which is where it really diverges from the source material vibe-wise. Plus I shipped the MC with Jun in the novel before the author made him evil.
