At the end of the day, it's all fiction. Maybe sometimes you're watching something and you're like "can't he just be normal about it?" But then it wouldn't be interesting would it? And I'll admit that I'm a big proponent of having romance stories be a 🤏 little fucked up. But...sometimes, too much is too much. This list gives a little levity for some of the Worst Things to come out of some series, featuring Terrible Male Leads, Toxic Romances, and all things the things that make you go WTF.

1. Well-Intended Love

Chinese Drama - 2019, 20 episodes

Tops for most Fucked Up Male Lead. Domineering CEOs are one thing; in some ways we can't help but want to see what over-the-top romantic ploy one will come up with. This guy upped the ante considerably for the genre with his signature scheme: Make the FL believe she has cancer and force her into a contract marriage in exchange for a bone marrow transplant. Despite the obvious five alarm fire here, this series got a season 2? Maybe we're all just watching out of morbid fascination...
2. TharnType

Thai Drama - 2019, 12 episodes

Here's one for the BL fans. Blatantly, and even violently, homophobic dude wants to experiment with his roommate while just being all-around a homophobic asshole. Played off as romantic ultimately because of his tragic past as a victim of child sexual abuse? And that's what you missed on GLEE!
3. Dear Hyeri

Korean Drama - 2024, 12 episodes

Here's one that checks multiple boxes: Disappointing plot? Check. Ableism? Check. ML who bullies and emotionally abuses the FL? Check. Overwhelming 2nd Male Lead Syndrome? Double Check.
We all watched this train crash in slow motion.
4. Just Spoil You

Chinese Drama - 2023, 20 episodes

ML is still in love with his ex, so he, [checks notes], punishes her and uses sexual violence as a threat to win her back? Oh, and there's ableism. [Simon Cowell Voice] It's a no from me.
