In early 2006, MBK Entertainment created a new idol group called GM5 with him as the main dancer and lead rapper. However, the agency kept making lineup changes and testing the members in smaller venues for over a year. He finally made his debut in September 2007 with their first album "The Beautiful Stardust". The group was known as CHOSHINSUNG (초신성) in South Korea and as CHOSHINSEI (超新星) in Japan. They debuted in Japan in September 2009 with the single "Kimi Dake o Zutto (Only You Forever)" and began focusing on the Japanese market. In 2010, MBK transferred management of the group to Maroo Corporation.
He enlisted for his mandatory military service on June 9, 2016 and was discharged on March 8, 2018. After serving, he began appearing in support roles in a few dramas and was also part of the sub-unit FUNKY GALAXY, alongside the other rappers in the group. In 2018, the members opted not to renew their contracts with Maroo and all signed with SV Entertainment (SV엔터테인먼트) and also decided to rebrand, using SUPERNOVA as the group's only name worldwide.
In 2021, he was accused of having an extramarital affair with Japanese singer and actress Shinohara Ryoko. She was married to actor Ichimura Masachika, and the affair caused a scandal in Japan. She eventually divorced and lost custody of the couple's two children. In 2022, the group went officially on an indefinite hiatus as all members are focusing on their individual activities. He is represented by Production Ogi (株式会社プロダクション尾木) in Japan and by Management Redwoods (뿌리깊은나무들) in South Korea.
