In "Key to the Phoenix Heart", Ma Qiu Yuan is the sensitive and emo little girl, but in this micro drama, she's Zhao Liying 2.0 - cool and stylish badass warrior. She handled both roles just as convincingly. Great actress! Hope to see her in more lead roles.
Fast-paced 28-episodes drama like this is perfect! No 40-episodes drag. ML is great. FL is good too but not as emotionally-expressive as the likes of Ma Qiu Yuan (Li Le Jun). I wanna see more of Ma Qiu Yuan's shows!
Wow! Didn't know this guy sings so darn well! Love the ending duet. Girl is a refreshing and youthful face, offering funny teenage humor. Good to see many new and young actresses too. Only at episode 3 ... so many more entertaining episodes to go ............. :)
At this point though, 2ML seems a better fit for FL. ;p
Hu Yi Xuan is what kept me watching till the very end. She's cute, pretty and a really versatile actress. ML is stiff in comparison. Story is simple but dragged over 40 episodes. 20 is more than enough. Nice costumes and BDM though. Hope to see Hu Yi Xuan in better and bigger budget dramas!
Interesting first third, drags the middle and became tedious in the final part. Always the same few people screwing around each other. Like the smart FL though.
They never did. The poster alone is a big giveway. They never promote it as love story, never did any CP promotions…
I've finished watching it, so will have to disagree on this, coz from start to end, the slow-building, slow-burn romance between ML & FL has been constantly going on. I like the painful romance between A Sheng and Jin Lun too. Jiang Ji and Bai Zong Ying were a sad couple. Glad Lv Yun Su / A Xing and Li Si got together. Lu Xianying courting and physically chasing Meishan Jun around was pure romance comedy. Finally, I take it that Zuo Ying Ying's constant flirting and teasing of Lu Qian Qiao has some lusty, if not romantic intent as well. LOL

9/10 - Solid drama! Well-paced, interesting story with enough twists to keep me engaged throughout. Nice fights. Appropriate BGM. 9 actors in main roles is great! FL handled her role well, but her character in this show is on the soft side i.e. not as badass as I'd like her to be. I like the slow-burn romance of the main couple, but the lust between devil girl and monk is peak!

Yeah. I know. I went back to re-watch PA to get ready for Rebirth. I wasn't complaining about different actresses for Chu Qiao. In fact, both are great! I was disappointed the new Chu Qiao does not have the superpowers of the old Chu Qiao. I remember the first part of PA where Chu Qiao was super-powerful! Then it went downhill after that. Was hoping to see her regain her superpowers in this sequel. Guess not. Similar kind of disappointment for Naksu in Alchemy of Souls Season 2: Light and Shadow. LOL
At this point though, 2ML seems a better fit for FL. ;p
