The Yellow Emperor adored Xuan because he personally raised him following the death of XY's mother and his parents. And, the young man reminded the old man of his deceased eldest son who could have been a good emperor.

The Emperor said to Xiao Yao that Xuan was better than he was because Xuan had more compassion like his grandmother.

In Episode 38 or 39, Xiao Yao said to Xuan if he couldn't bring himself to kill the Yellow Emperor, she would do it for him because their grandfather never raised her personally unlike Xuan who was raised by him for a few years.

Equal wives are what TSJ's grandmother had suggested. But, TSJ refused because XY only wanted to be the only woman in her married life. Good girl. She hates harem politics like the one experienced by her grandmother.
