Episode 4 was the strongest episode of the series so far and perfectly demonstrated how one person’s actions can create consequences that ripple through countless lives. We finally got more insight into the team’s backstories, from experiences with bullying to feelings of not belonging, and it helped explain why each member is so committed to protecting both students and teachers. My favourite scene was the courtroom confrontation where Choi Gang Seok was accused of using the EDPB for a personal vendetta, only to completely dismantle the argument by reminding everyone that the organisation exists to protect victims and ensure their voices are heard. The biggest emotional moment came from seeing Im Han Rim’s first encounter with Na Hwa Jin, when he stepped in during a brutal bullying incident and taught her that asking for help isn’t a weakness. I also loved how the episode connected back to the female bully from the previous case, showing how the actions of one terrible teacher contributed to the person she eventually became. First ImpressionEpisode 3 slowed down slightly compared to the previous episodes, but it did a really good job building the political tensions and showing just how intelligent and observant the female lead actually is.Episode ThoughtsThis episode opens with the female lead finally confronting part of the trauma she experienced nine years ago when she was violently rejected from the mansion. And honestly? Watching her finally turn the tables on the concubine’s nanny was deeply satisfying.The female lead cleverly forces the concubine to recreate the medicine she previously claimed to have brewed — the same medicine that caused trouble for the female lead’s mother years earlier. Naturally, the truth slowly starts unraveling.What becomes clear is that the concubine herself may not actually be malicious, but heavily manipulated by the nanny, who believes underhanded schemes are necessary for a concubine and her daughter to survive within the household hierarchy.The father being forced to backpedal once the mother discovers the truth about what happened nine years ago was honestly deserved 😭 especially because the mother genuinely had no idea her daughter had returned to the manor only to be choked and thrown out.And honestly? The female lead’s emotional distance toward her mother feels completely understandable. There’s too much pain there to simply pretend everything is fine.The episode then shifts heavily into political territory. There are multiple factions moving behind the scenes, nobles plotting against each other, and the male lead continuing his dangerous investigation into corruption and treason.One particularly sad moment involves someone the male lead once respected and brought into official service now facing execution for treason. It really reinforces how ruthless the male lead’s position has become and how dangerous the political climate is.The male lead clearly understands that sentimentality cannot survive in court politics.Meanwhile, the female lead is beginning to connect pieces together herself. After hearing that her grandmother may be in danger because of her involvement with the male lead, she actively seeks him out for answers.And honestly? Their interactions continue to have this really subtle tension where it feels like both of them are constantly testing each other while pretending not to.The crown prince also continues to feel suspiciously interested in her 👀 whether it’s admiration, curiosity, or the beginnings of a crush, he definitely enjoys provoking her reactions.The female lead once again completely outplays her father during the social gathering. He’s desperately trying to create the image of a loving father because he knows people finding out he abandoned his daughter would damage his reputation.But she verbally dismantles him yet again 😭What I really loved is that her intelligence genuinely changes the course of events. She manages to convince him to leave the gathering early, unknowingly saving him from becoming entangled in the political arrest the male lead was preparing to carry out.By the end of the episode, the female lead is no longer simply reacting to events around her — she’s actively piecing together the larger political situation herself.The letter she writes to her grandmother knowing the male lead may intercept it was SUCH a smart move. It was basically her subtle way of saying:“I understand more than you think… and I’ll protect my grandmother however I can.”Character NotesFemale Lead: Easily the strongest part of the drama. Every episode proves how observant, emotionally intelligent, and strategic she is.Male Lead: The political burden on him is becoming more obvious. The female lead continues to prove she’s far smarter than everyone around her expects.Episode ThoughtsThis episode opened with the female lead’s coming-of-age ceremony and honestly… it was stunning. Her grandmother truly spared no expense. The styling, the music, the atmosphere — everything felt elegant and grand.One of the most breathtaking moments was the black silk draped across the courtyard. When it was pulled away and sunlight poured in around her, she genuinely looked ethereal. It was impossible not to notice the way everyone was staring at her, including the male lead 👀But of course the peace never lasts because her father immediately starts causing trouble again.During the ceremonial rites, the female lead had previously refused to perform the bowing ritual toward her parents, yet somehow it was forced back into the ceremony publicly. It felt very much like her father trying to humiliate and control her in front of everyone, but thankfully she’s far too clever to let him fully succeed.What makes the family dynamics even worse is the presence of his favoured concubine. The fact he brought the concubine while her actual mother remains absent and unwell in the capital says EVERYTHING about the type of man he is 😭 and expecting the female lead to bow to the concubine too? Absolutely not.Thankfully she skillfully avoids the situation while still embarrassing her father in the process.We also begin to see more clearly just how much political danger is surrounding the male lead. Her grandmother is secretly assisting him in investigations involving corrupt nobles and princes connected to tax reform opposition, which means the entire family has now become a potential target.Because of this, the female lead is suddenly ordered back to the capital — a decision pushed forward by the male lead himself after she witnessed something she shouldn’t have.And honestly? Returning to the capital feels less like “coming home” and more like walking back into trauma.Before leaving though, we get more scenes with the prince introduced in episode one and he’s honestly such chaotic trouble 😭 he insists she call him “uncle” because of his relationship to her cousin, only for her to immediately outsmart him by demanding a gift if he expects the title. Their dynamic is hilarious.Naturally he responds by giving her a supposedly poisoned dagger because apparently this man treats life like a game.Then comes the carriage scene.This prince is genuinely insane because he literally points a crossbow at her while she’s travelling 😭 but weirdly… it may have saved her life. Her horse carriage had been tampered with and would’ve gone over a cliff had he not interfered.The drama continues to blur the line between whether he’s helping her, testing her, or simply entertaining himself because he’s bored.Once the female lead finally returns to the capital manor, we get painful flashbacks showing how badly she was treated as a child before being cast out. It becomes very clear this household never truly accepted her.But once again, she refuses to be powerless.One of the funniest moments of the episode happens when she deliberately arrives at the manor in the prince’s carriage, causing her father to mistakenly bow to HER thinking she’s the prince 😭 absolutely iconic behaviour.The prince appearing afterwards only makes the humiliation worse for him.We also finally see the reunion between the female lead and her mother, and honestly… it’s complicated. Her mother seems genuinely happy to see her, but the female lead remains emotionally distant because the pain of abandonment clearly hasn’t healed.The family dinner later on perfectly highlights how isolated she still is within this household. The concubine’s family behaves like the “real family” while she remains treated like an outsider.And when the concubine’s nanny tries stirring rumours about her arriving with the prince, everything escalates again.But what I absolutely LOVED was the ending.The female lead finally reaches her limit and basically makes it clear:“Maybe my mother will tolerate this treatment… but I won’t.”And then she storms directly into the concubine’s residence to confront them herself 😭This girl truly refuses to stay silent and I love her for it.Character NotesFemale Lead: Smart, fearless, emotionally wounded, but absolutely refuses to be controlled. In the process they accidentally set off the flare, which ends up being unintentionally hilarious. Proud of themselves, they loudly declare they are the “Northwest Pig Butcher Squad!” and return to the Old Man (Grand Tutor) absolutely delighted with their success. Even better, the FL is now openly calling the Old Man Master, which feels like a meaningful step in their relationship.Then we get a series of emotional reunions. The FL sees Mr Zhao again and is completely overwhelmed with happiness. What’s even funnier is how childish the Grand Tutor becomes watching their interaction. His jealousy leads to a ridiculous situation where both he and Mr Zhao end up in the infirmary.The reunions keep coming when Captain Li arrives. He’s clearly thrilled to find the FL and it’s becoming increasingly obvious that he has a huge crush on her. And he’s not the only one paying attention — Mr Jin (one of the thug boys) seems a little jealous and suspicious of Captain Li’s intentions.Meanwhile, the strategic situation worsens as the ML appears trapped on the mountain with no food, making the opposing side extremely smug. Someone needs to deliver food and medicine to him. The FL immediately volunteers, but Mr Zhao refuses, pointing out that she is no longer the same Butcher Girl she once was. Around the same time she finally learns that her little sister is safe, which may also be why she is willing to risk herself in such a dangerous situation. Her natural instinct to help others really shines here.On the darker side of the episode, we dive deeper into Qin Min’s backstory. The drama attempts to explain how he became the person he is, but even with the trauma he has experienced, he still comes across as completely irredeemable. Although he rescued Manager Yu from the flood, the situation only existed because he had chained her up in the first place. He consistently refuses to take responsibility for his actions.Before dying, the nanny remarks that Qin Min is behaving foolishly because of love for a woman. But honestly, what he feels toward Manager Yu doesn’t look like love — it feels like obsession. When he learns that Manager Yu wants him dead, it hardly feels surprising considering everything he has done to her and her child.Character NotesFemale Lead:Her compassion continues to define her character. Based on what he’s heard about the “butcher’s girl,” he assumes she must be some terrifying woman who bullied the ML into submission.🪷So when he finally meets the FL, he’s clearly surprised. She’s nothing like the fierce image he imagined. The bigger shock comes when he accidentally discovers that the two of them are actually married. The man the emperor himself couldn’t force into marriage… is suddenly married. Naturally the Headmaster begins questioning the ML, wondering if he’s fallen for her because he’s definitely not behaving like himself.🪷We also get more of the ML’s backstory through battlefield memories. We see the moment a hidden arrow struck him while he was fighting. It’s hinted that his own uncle — the Prime Minister — may want him dead. The situation appears connected to a mysterious case from sixteen years ago that somehow ties back to the FL’s parents.🪷The assassins were sent to kill the FL and were searching for something connected to that past. Because of this danger, the safest choice is for them to go into hiding. It’s clear she’s developed real feelings for him. Meanwhile the ML hasn’t actually left and is confused by her reaction — he’s completely clueless about why she’s so upset. In the end, he agrees to go with her for now.🪷As the FL plans to close her shop until things are safe again, she unexpectedly receives an offer she can’t refuse. This episode really highlights how difficult life is for the FL simply because of who she is.🪷Episode ThoughtsEpisode 6 explores more of the prejudice the FL faces. Because she’s a butcher, people are either disgusted or afraid of her — and it’s even worse because she’s a woman. But she didn’t choose this life out of cruelty, she chose it because she needed to survive.🪷There’s a really sweet moment between the leads when the FL worries that the ML might be disgusted by her work. Instead, he tells her he would be ungrateful to think that way, especially considering she took in a cripple when no one else would. It’s a small but meaningful moment that shows how much he respects her.🪷We also see that the ML continues quietly protecting her behind the scenes.🪷When the FL returns to her father’s butcher shop she finds it completely smashed up. The culprits turn out to be the same thugs who had been causing trouble earlier. Surprisingly they apologise and explain who ordered them to do it. We get a little of their backstory — they aren’t inherently bad people, but circumstances forced them down this path.🪷Instead of punishing them, the FL gives them honest work. She feeds them and pays them wages, showing that given the chance they might choose a better life.🪷The FL then confronts Wang and firmly puts him in his place. Even the ML steps in with a subtle move behind the scenes to make sure she’s protected.🪷But of course the drama isn’t over.🪷The trial regarding her uncle’s complaint finally begins, and something immediately feels off. They demand she remove her knives, which already feels suspicious. Then her aunt arrives carrying her dead uncle, loudly accusing the FL of being a jinx.🪷It’s clearly a setup.🪷My suspicion is firmly on the county magistrate’s daughter — she was already snooping around earlier in her carriage and it feels like she’s behind this latest scheme.🪷Character Notes🪷Female LeadStill incredibly strong. Despite the way people judge her for being a butcher, she continues to stand her ground and even offers others a chance at honest work.🪷Male LeadQuietly protective. This episode starts revealing that there’s a lot more to her than just being a butcher’s daughter.🪷Episode ThoughtsEpisode 2 begins peeling back more layers about our female lead. From the synopsis I did wonder how a butcher girl could possibly end up on the battlefield later in the story, and now we’re starting to see why.🪷It turns out she has martial arts skills taught by her father, which explains her strength and confidence. We also learn that her parents were different from ordinary villagers, suggesting there’s more to their story that hasn’t been revealed yet.🪷As if life wasn’t already hard enough for her, a gambling uncle suddenly appears with a group of thugs demanding to take her house as repayment for his debts. But the real shock of the scene is that the “little butcher girl” absolutely woops their butts. It’s incredibly satisfying and shows exactly how capable she really is.🪷This moment also highlights who truly cares about the FL and her younger sister — and who absolutely does not. She gently rejects him, and what follows is brutal: he goes home and his father hits him. The RL truly can’t catch a break, and for a moment, I really felt for him.Meanwhile, the ML is still digging into the past and finally finds a connection — enough to make him want to gamble and take a risk to get answers faster.
