like it would be a coping mechanism for an ex-alcoholic. he still gets an impulse to drink, but he is prepared for the impulses and that's why he filled the alcohol bottles with water. like the way ex-smokers smoke no tobacco cigarettes or those trying to quit caffeine drink decaff. it's a long shot tho
