Yess I am absolutely loving it all- the cinematography has been criticised alot but I feel the loud colour grading and quick transitions make this feel more high stakes. Also, I am more of a modern cdrama person, only got into the historical genre this year because of Pursuit of Jade so am just really enjoying all these new visuals being thrown my way.
I started watching this show for Yiran's face card and cause I was bored when this popped up on Netflix. But man it had me hooked from the get go: first with Chu Zhao's cunning (Chenduling) and Yiran's face economy (am shallow, let a girl enjoy), and then episode 3 onwards the chemistry hits--catching me completely off guard at how intense it is. Like the kind of intense that had me squealing with my girlfriends in gcs when they were just looking at each other, not even touching.
I am seeing alot of complaints everywhere but as a neutral audience who went into this with absolutely no expectations whatsoever, am really enjoying the cleverness shown by Zhao. Many people are complaining that Xie Yanlai constantly fights for her but for me, strength isn't just physical but also cerebral and emotional. She knew from her past life that Yanlai felt something for her and manipulated him with her flirting so she could have a trustworthy ally but really ended up falling for him slowly--to me that screams both cleverness and emotional intelligence. You can disagree but as someone new to the rebirth plot, am really enjoying this and these two will probably be up there for me in the couples I love from cdramaland because the tension between them is absolutely crackling!
