She was distraught and was grinding those chess pieces till her fingers bled. Li Ni did the right thing to give her time to get her frame of mind sorted out. Was not keeping any count then, he even let her try to escape.
(Mind you, it did not stop him to extort her father into helping him attacking whatever city it was) Now when her situation is like twice worse than that and she has no backing and nowhere to run. He suddenly starts keeping a score? What a guy.

He could've easily said you know I got 50k people in my army and Cui army has 100K how about we just get rid of emperor right now (and every official with families who seconded the disbandment) saving us a bit of time. So we still have decent force guarding the border, prime minister's people power is gone. I am an emperor, you're empress, we can throw Lady Gracious of the balcony if you like.

She would be happy, army would still be strong and they can work on the legislation to divide the land, etc., or whatever the next thing. without convincing the buffoon of his father.

Now, that would've been the most reasonable and I would go so far as to say the expected way for Li Ni to react.

At the start she thought everyone in Lin family were stupid and didn't deserve the power. After meeting him she realised that he was a little different and but a completly unambitious underachiever. She started to motivate him to achieve his potential. So she pushed him to fight to become Crown Prince only because he was of right lineage to become one and all other alternatives would create instability in the country (one is too young the others too stupid) and her goal was "world peace" not to become Crown Princess.

Suddenly all her family legacy and power is gone and so is her potential to achieve any of her goals without outside help.
And she is now totally dependent on someone whom she barely considers to be her equal and gets to become a Crown Princess position which she never wanted or is prepared for.

She did not want to go fishing and gaze at the stars at the border because she had stuff to do.
Then she was ready not to marry him but keep the army and she was prepared to fight him if he tried to disarm Cui army by force.
And she said like 5 or 6 times she is prepared to not marry at all.
And her father went crazy so enemies have extra leverage on her.
All of her aims are unachievable and she is in the palace (essentially a prisoner in enemy territory).
Just because Li Ni convinced her father that it's the best way forward.

To me it seemed reasonable to be upset.because she wasn't willing to sacrifice her an her father's power just to marry him. But her father sided sided with Li Ni and she went along with it because alternative was another war

Best way out for her character would've been getting killed while trying to stab either FL or ML or like in TLB trying to burn everyone with her. Simply going mad is such a lazy way out(it was wrapped up in under a minute of a side scene)
