What did he do this time? I was starting to feel happy with him and the princess getting along in 27-8 🤦🏻‍♀️
@JeA He doesn't have a double personality problem, he only loses his reason in matters related to Ruyi due to a sort of Oedipus complex developed towards her in his childhood-early teens, when she represented the only authority to him, while this attachment to her is percieved as "existantial" (the way a child sees his mother, especially a child without a fatherly figure).
The empress entrusted him to RX with two tasks: teach him martial arts and make a man out of him. Ruyi accomplished the first task but the second is impossible without a person percieved as an authority of the same sex. NYZ seems to understand this psychological mechanism but he still needs to be recognized as "paternal authority" by LTG.
Returning to your questione, PeachBlossom answered you indirectly: if CY didn't see Ruyi, he would probably try that path with CY, the problem is he turns into mess whenever things have something to do with his shifu and trigger that particular mechanism

Yeah I don't love how Ruyi has turned to crying all the time and NYZ has clearly taken over as the main protagonist.…
Thank you. I like to ready your views, too. ❤️ Btw, it looks like they've heard us, today we've got a lot of action, the story progressed fine & fast...

I agree with everything you've pointed out about the imbalance between plot-characterisation, adding that the second was overdone, giving a repetitive impression. The actions are the basic grammar of any story, its bone-muscular structure that allows story to move forward, if you dwell too much on characters' explaining, you lose on movement aspect

Unfortunatly, I'm not a Mandarin speaker. The translation provided was as I've quoted, although we all know the 2 "purples" (left and right chief) are both dead. The emperor ordered such an insane & illogical punishment that even an awful head not know what to do, why and who to punish except drawing a fortune. Excuse me, It could make sense in some other plot, not in this one. Obviously, I will watch the remaining episodes, I really like this drama, but that doesn't mean I am blind

I have mixed thoughts on today’s eps. The highlights are few and they’re YY(very consistently good), the bros…
My thoughts exactly. Objectively, after so much space dedicated to to the sad history of LTG that caused an unhealthy attachment to his Shifu with uncontrollable behaviour whenever it comes to her, NYZ "physical lesson" & verbal preaching is unsuficient. His complexes are not his fault. It's reasonable for NYZ to act as a "father figure" in this case, but the script was too superficial to produce required "sense of authority" and necessary awe in a child with Oedipus complex. The audience didn't hear or sense the right "verdict": "Although you are "useful" to me, beware, I prefer to break all your bones than to allow you pestering my woman. We can have a good relation only if you behave, otherwise you are more useful to me as a dead meat".
2) Besides rushing all the scenes with princes, we are not only completely clear about the set-up, but we are not clear about the reasons why the An emperor decided to punish Red, Scarlett and Purple Guards. This logical "hole" is not a minor issue for the audience who highly appreciates a good script, therefore I fully agree with your judgement: this episodi was the weakest.

maybe Chai Ming isn't really dead and he did betray Heaven Path/Liudao Tang. Maybe even was the one that shot…
There's no doubt "something is rotten in the state of Wu". But the reason why Wu king went personally to war was his relying on wrong people and bad counseling. Before that, he personally demoted NYZ while ZS (prime minister) entrusted Liudao Hall to his nephew who destroyed all the intelligence kept in the headquarters. Does he need betrayals, especially from people who are entrusted with his security? It is the Wu king who betrayed loyal people around him and continues in doing the same mistake when refusing to put the truth of their heroism in writing.
Besides, all top power relations/ power people in Wu are rotten on their own, and we see the similar situation in An, too.

It's normal to be tired, in real life, none of US would stand such a freak. The issue I wanted to raise up is different: what options such an abondened child had in his life? It's nobody's fault, Ruyi could have not played all the roles. Imho, he truly misses a father figure

LTG is a shakesperean (or dostoevskijan) character. No "normal" person "was there or done that". We, "the normals" don't share their pain, ie. the intrinsic tragedy of their existance. The empress tasked Ruyi (then also in her teens) with "mission impossible": teach him martial arts and how to be a man. Ruyi took upon herself the first part of that order, the second was out of her reach, she might have been a (missing) motherly figure, but no way she could have been a substitute for a figure of father (she also didn't have, her father actually sold her).
Wether LTG is redeemable or not depends on the scriptwriter: either case will be understandable. If freudian "father figure" jumps in, teaching him a lesson or two (your "mother" is "my woman") he will. If not, it's also fine, we've got a new tragic character
