A honest review

Loved the first episode's vibes, but the initial feeling wore off quickly when you start to realize the poor writing of the characters (or the lack of character development). Personally, the major disappointments were the outing of three people, which destroyed the experience for me and was handled in a terrible, lazy, and unrealistic way. There was zero effort in writing and building characters that make sense. They should have stuck to more comedy. It's all over the place and rushed through so many useless storylines. By no means do I want to say that I expected their parents to be homophobic, I expected better and more inspiring conversation about coming out, first love, something that makes you believe that you are watching LGTBQ people deal with their first love, not something that could be written by an AI.

Also, come on, a QL series without going to the beach or mountains?! They're in school, why not film a school trip episode that's funny and chill?

Underwhelming overall, and as others have mentioned, pretty bad budget. Buying Temu lights for decorating the bedroom is not an investment, lmao. The setting is literally claustrophobic, with few places where they filmed. The postproduction is average and very similar to "Hidden Agenda," with strong colors and a blur filter that is not my cup of tea. I also hated how they focused the "glow up" episode for their damn L'Oréal sponsor, terrible message.

On the other hand, having a character whose type of disorder isn't clearly defined is problematic. As someone who would never try to diagnose or self-diagnose a mental disease, it was never clear what her issue was. Her social problems were essentially not about the rest of the people accommodating her issues but more about her forcing herself to fit in.

Not to mention that the Netflix deal was probably beneficial for GMMTV or the crew but hindered the visibility of the series, especially in early episodes, while other GL series easily get 1M views in less than 24 hours. Not everyone has accesibility to Netflix and also i think the easy distribution of QL content from Thailand had helped a lot to reach more public.

I don't mind if a series doesn't have much plot, but at least make it fun, dynamic, and witty. They're girls!! come on, so many fun moments of sorority could have been created! This one feels like a lot of plots just edited into one series. The opportunities they had to create conflict or plot devices were wasted, in most cases solved with a one-line robotic apology.

Last but not least, the state of the fandom, which I usually don't care about so much when I watch series, is worth mentioning. Yes, this production is triple F rated (written, directed, and acted by females), which is a huge win in a male dominated company. But at the same time, I hope they stop with the "a series by women for women" because there are other gender identities that exist—cough, cough, non-binary, hello? is that familiar for you fellow reviewer? And also, it's a series anyone can really watch.
